  1. But for the time being beautiful blue skies and sunshine here in Newport - pleasure to see it
  2. The main roads around my area are fine now - small bits of ice (especially arund Cwm Calon Jenko) but nothing really to worry about if you take your time. Anyone catching the train to Cardiff from Ystrad Mynach - the road up to the main carpark is fine but the car park itself is totally untreated and is just one big ice bowl so take your time. Must admit could do with a break for a few weeks from the white stuff (never thought I'd say that lol)- getting to work has been a pain - hopefully at least one decent reload before winters over - January 2013 will go down as one of the great winter months in my part of the world at least.
  3. Not sure why everyone seems to be so pessimistic about the remaining winter prospect, surely we have at least another 6 weeks plus in prospect, far too early to give in yet.
  4. Been snowing quite heavily here in Newport for the past hour or so - sky still looks full of it
  5. I think summer may be a long way away at the moment even if the predicted thaw arrives this weekend
  6. Roads down to Pengam and even the Corbetts roundabout in Caerphilly were a lot worse today John - mistake I made was leaving too early, I think in future if I'm going to make the effort I'll leave it until its light at the very least and give the roads a bit of time to clear the worst of the slush and ice. Could be bad tommorrow though if we get the freezing temperatures. and as I speak just starting to snow quite a bit again down in Newport
  7. Three times in the last five days I've cleared the drive and cars of between 4 and 8 inches of snow. This morning was just as bad (or as good depending on how you look at it as when we were in the red area) amazing week actually - fingers crossed for one last blast on Friday (evening as I have to get to Abergavenny in the morning) And Mr Music "I love the weather I have a passion for the subject - unlike some on here and elsewhere - who are more like flippin accountants - boring - GET A LIFE PLEASE" I'm an accountant - I take exception
  8. Sorry Gav - didn't mean to come over like that - we all know how frustrating it is looking East and seeing it pile up - just enjoying it while we got it and its still humping down outside- another fun morning watching the roads ahead I think. Fingers crossed it drifts West for you guys - will be the last for a while I think - having saidf that we've still got another 6 weeks of deep winter to come so fingers crossed.
  9. probably 6-8 Inches Friday another 4-6 Inches last night and now the latest batch is shaping up - no idea yet but I'm hoping for another 5 Inches tonight - best part of a foot and a half undrifted snow in the last week - awesome
  10. Yup snowing heavy and blowin in the wind as Bob used to say. After all the despondancy before Christmas I'm really enjoying this winter now. I know theres a mushy period coming but any hope of a reload before the end of Feb just to put the seal on the 2013 winter?
  11. Well got into work in Newport with not too much trouble to be honest - got the wife on snow patrol at home in case we get anything later this afternoon as temps drop then we'll see what happens tonight and take one day at a time at the moment
  12. Thanks guys, big doubts I must admit, those photos are amazing to me,I'd completely cleared all the snow off the cars from Friday and the road outside the house was pretty much clear but here are again lol
  13. And still it keeps coming down, just leaving for work which might be pretty stupid but I've a feeling there's going to be a repeat performance tomorrow so gotta make an effort i guess.
  14. . Still throwing it down here John as you'll be aware.....thinking of leaving in the next few minutes, had Friday off,now Tuesday, possibly Wednesday and I'd already booked Friday for other reasons. On a huge guilt trip at the moment to be honest.
  15. . There is the odd van and 4x4. But that was quarter to eight which should be rush hour.gonna make an effort in the next few minutes and put the wife on telephone alert to keep me posted if it gets worse. Gonna arrange to work from home again tomorrow if we get a dumping overnight as forecast and knowing how understated NBC Wales have been this morning that's what I'm expecting
  16. Can't believe the BBC forecast seems to be getting worse if anything.
  17. Looks like a good 2-3 inches down overnight and still coming down quite heavy, temperature 0c. Not sure whether to risk trying to get to Newport or not at the moment. Sounds like its going to die away through the morning, was surprised by the bbc forecast saying showers when outside in the wind it looked worse than Friday.
  18. 0.4c here in penpedairheol, temperature dropping quit quickly actually
  19. That sounds about right Andy - always notice travelling from Caerphiily to where I live theres about a 2 degree difference in the temperature and the Graigerhorn and Cardiff would be even more extreme I would guess. Snizzling outside already though the temperature is a balmy 1.9 degrees outside. Wife just came home and said it was snowing quite heavily in Caerphilly about half an hour ago. And not getting worried about the mild spell- to be honest could do with the break and theres still a good 6 weeks or more for a reoccurrence of the last week. What we would have given for this weather before Christmas- how quickly we forget ;0)
  20. Temp hasn't got above zero all day here today - no thaw anywhere at the moment
  21. Temp has dropped half a degree in the last half an hour here - now -0.4c - snow seems to be intensifying slightly though sometimes its hard to say as the wind is blowing the dry powdery snow off roofs accross my view. Trains form Pengam through to Penarth were cancelled at 12.30 so might have to make one mans epic journey accross the Rhymney Valley (all 4 miles so perhaps not exactly the length and breadth) down to Ystrad Mynach shortly - a least its still light.
  22. Very fine stuff now, nearly stopped. A good 6 to 8 inches I would guess but disappointed its dying away so early when the mo forecast a 24 hour event here in the valleys. Never mind good stuff. Perhaps this is just a temporary lull.
  23. Temps still low for the foreseeable this could be around for a while
