  1. Very quiet up here, eerily so in fact. Wind is picking up though.
  2. Out with dog just now and it's good bit milder than the last few nights with a strange sense of anticipation in the air!!! I still don't reckon it'll be as bad as they say in terms of snow amount but we'll just have to wait and see.
  3. Been snowing lightly in Merthyr from 6am this morning. If that front stalls over us tomorrow,I reckon some of US could well see Upto a foot of snow.
  4. The lads and lasses over on the model thread are not happy this morning.Seems like the majority of the precip wont get far past the East Midlands. The fact that NI and Wales could get over a foot of snow in 12 hours seems to have gone completely over their heads.
  5. The BBC web forecast is absolute rubbish for majority of the time and the BBC news forecasts are often based on outdated info. Met office is the only semi reliable forecast in my opinion
  6. I thought the red alert was only for extreme life threatening conditions. I wouldn't call 10-15cm life threatening.............in fact most of us,kids included, will be over the moon with it. 7. The latest gfs would cause disruption to parts of the UK not seen for many a year quickly followed by an attack from an even colder NE direction. I'm getting more confident now that that most of wales will get snow now, amounts still open to debate
  8. 48 hours away and nobody from old Jim down the market to the chief forecaster at the Meto and his billion pound super computer have a clue at what's going to happen. Could be a foot for some or,just as easily,a few cms of wet slush. Oh the joys of living on a tiny island in the Atlantic!!
  9. This time tomorrow we MAY have a fairly good idea of snow on Friday but until then it's still nigh on impossible to be confident in any forecast given the complex models at the moment. As someone pointed out,it's a fine line between 6 hours of wet snow not accounting to much or 6 hours of "proper" snow dumping 30cm on some of us. I'm urging caution and not to build hopes up.
  10. Glorious day in Merthyr today although I expects the the temps to drop like a stone from 4 onwards. We need to be very careful on the roads tonight.
  11. I still think Friday's event will be very marginal event for us in wales. Rapid snow to rain event possibly?
  12. Absolute chaos on the roads around Merthyr. Unbelievably,I think the roads were untreated last night
  13. The worlds finest super computers can barely get Wednesday right yet nevermind Friday so i think we can take the BBC Wales report with a pinch of salt. Could well get a foot of snow but there's massive uncertainties. We'll proably have a good idea early Wednesday evening regarding Friday's possible snow.
  14. From what i gather,it's not that strong of a block and the cold pool over Europe is also nothing special.I just dont think it will resist too many attacks from the atlantic. Could be a lot of fun in meantime though
  15. I'm in dowlais so not that far away. What a mad hour!!
  16. Just a hunch dingdong. Dangerous to underestimate the gfs
  17. I still reckon Friday's event will be a fairly quick snow to rain scenario for us in Wales. There's an awful lot of activity in the Atlantic and I think we'll be on the wrong side of the front. The Midlands could get buried if it stalls!!
  18. Whiteout in Merthyr. Very heavy snow falling. Try and check out the heads of valley traffic cams
  19. The odd large snow flake in the rain up here now. Very blustery and feeling a lot colder than a few hours ago.
  20. Back to sleet here in Merthyr but there's a nice little covering now. Wasn't really expecting much tonight but my location normally does ok from any borderline forecasts.
