  1. It's snowing ! Nice big flakes as well but not heavy and it is settling on roads.
  2. Looks marginal for SE London and Chatham. I just woke up for a moment and now there's no chance of getting any sleep for hours.
  3. Thanks for your replies Yamkin and Iceni, I look at the GDACS web site, http://www.gdacs.org. , on almost a daily basis and I am always amazed at the number of earth quakes there are on a world wide basis. In fact I was looking at the site when the Boxing Day Tsunami occurred and the drama and signicance unfolded. Back to weather - there seems to be a little disappointment in some regionals north at the amount, or lack, of snow received last night. Seemed plenty in Sheffied last night at the Spurs game.
  4. Yamkin, Do these quakes in the UK have any ongoing consequences or are they treated as a one off event. I mean would they be linked to other "traumas" at a later date or an event waiting to happen?
  5. Thanks for earthquake info. Apologies, as a bit slow on the uptake. Now back to snow, possibly, let downs, upgrades, ice, wind and whatever over the next week or so. I just hope none of this goes belly up or there could be some very depressed people on here. It won't.
  6. Just witnessed a small earthquake here in Peterborough! Another thing to add to the fun! Can't find this recorded anywhere as yet. When you say witnessed you mean you actually saw objects shaken or moved?
  7. Just heard on LBC Radio that it is 11c in London this afternoon. I think not......
  8. Bloody council have taken my lamp post away and put a new one up 50 yards down the road. I used to be able to lie in bed and look out the window to see if it was snowing and now I have to trudge around the house for a suitable window. Might have to put a security camera up pointing towards the new street light!
  9. Would it just be easier if we , in the SE, took the attitude that, at present, it looks like a no snow event for us. Therefore if any snow does fall it will be a pleasant surprise ( and about time too) and then we have next week to contend with.
  10. I think the Swedish Homes web (www.maklarhuset.tv) site should be www.maklarhuset.se
  11. Could anyone enlighten me as to the current conditions in Genoa, Italy. I know they have hd flood nd incredible rainfall recently. My daughters is being sent there tidy to work for week which I find a bit irresponsible after recent news reports. I can't seem to find out the current situation and the next few days.
  12. Good to see JP back posting and also appreciated all the posts by Captain Shortwave over the last few months. 80sWeather mentioned the great storm of 1987. I had a golf match planned that day in Hertfordshire so got up at around 5am and tried to drive out of our road. Still dark so was told not to turn left down the road as blocked. Too true as about 11 huge trees had fallen across our suburban road and later TV crews arrived to film it. As all golfers are completely mad I actually drove to Hertfordshire only to be told the course was closed ( no surprise there) so went to a friends course near Enfield. Still blowing a gale I hit the ball miles but it was all a joke as impossible to play in the strong wind. Looking back I should have noticed vans blown on their sides and local councils workers clearing roads of fallen trees on the way to Hertfordshire! Totally ludicrous and dangerous looking back but when you have to get somewhere to play your sport you get there no matter what. Older and wiser now so would never drive in a storm like that again.......well......perhaps....! Weatherise here it's dark and damp with the odd shower.
  13. MK There are literally thousands of them in and around London and every afternoon a "lead" bird flies by first and then you know the regular flock of 30-50 are on their way. So noisy. Officially they do not interfere with smaller birds but I'm not so sure myself. They have also been classed an an iindigenous species to the UK since around 1972 which some people may find alarming. Pretty to look at but a pain to listen to. Much like todays "pop" bands. To keep on track I pulled up a seat outside around 4.40pm to enjoy the last of the sun which quickly disappeared behind a tree and it was freezing so came indoors again.
  14. Biggin, Thats a Buzzard. According to the last census ( bird census) there are over 1000 pairs in Kent which I found hard to believe as well. I think the census was done in 2011 so probably more by now. Very common sight on the North Downs and along the M25 in Kent and A2. Weather wise its lovely. Top temp for Sunday supposed to be 18c for London? Can this be true?
  15. Surrey, on 11 Feb 2014 - 18:45, said: KEY BOARD WARRIORS!!!!! LOL Edit: It feels like though, you go to the time and effort to pull up charts, look at them and compare them to the old ones, then work out what is going on and inform people of you're thoughts, and then they have a go at you? Some really odd people on this planet. At least I got a bunch of good peeps in here I really don't understand why some people are in the mod thread because if the weather is not to their liking it is boring weather according to them. They have no acceptance of anything other than snow and how anyone can say the recent storms, wind, rain and floods are boring is beyond me. Extreme weather has consequences and that is what we are experiencing now. Your points made perfect sense Surrey but I would leave the mod thread to bicker amongst themselves and stay in here, which is well policed, because if anyone made similar comments in this thread MK will descend upon them from a great height. Down to 4c but no wind.
  16. "Ohhh its all kicking off on the mad thread.....forget the storms, take cover from that lol." I agree that it really should be called The Hunt For Cold(Snow) Thread. I don't understand why they get so personal and sometimes a bit nasty with each other. Not like here. Awaiting the deluge to start after lunch but had some showers passing through already. At a funeral this afternoon which will be sad and wet.
  17. Brilliant forecast JP as I am moving a load of furniture tomorrow between 10 am till 1 pm. Local council have resurfaced our road and brushed all the extra ashalt into the drains which are now blocked. Should be interesting when the rain/flooding starts as inspite of calling them nothing has happened to clear them.
  18. 'Nuff said. How Far East are we expecting high waves on the South Coast Wednesday i.e. As Far East As Dover?
  19. Yay o/ we have a winner - sadly no prize (unless it hasn't snowed by June then you could probably have the 2013/4 snow cup I guess) lol We could change to the Rain Depth Cup or the Flood Depth Cup but I think the humour will be ebbing soon for those affected. A sunny morning here but when do the winds arrive -lunchtime onwards?
  20. Clue 2: a charter was granted by King Charles II, there was a duke of __________ and it was an important wool town So its Buckingham then?

None of these seem to show any resemblance to the buildings in the photo assuming the name is correct. I looked at street level Google Earth. Any more clues? Oh yes, weather - wet and drizzle. Okay - clue 1: It was the county town and had a sheriff Ok I go for Bedford then .

  23. Just had a look at the NOAA site and the forecast for 3rd Feb ( Monday). Apparently we're in for a gale but don't worry because there's another big low running in behind that one still mid Atlantic on Monday. No surprise there then. Of course there is also the low off to the North East of UK as well so 3 in all. Be interesting to hear what JP makes of all this later and where they all end up.
