  1. Hi MS, Welcome to the forum. You can claim Remote County Membership as we are a friendly bunch so pop in anytime.
  2. The MOD thread are awaiting Tamara's input which is good to hear.
  3. Hi AS, I remember driving back from Dundee sometime in the 1980's during heavy snow and before I had driven a half mile had to pull over as the windscreen just iced over. All vehicles and lorries had to do the same and it was treacherous and much worse than anything I'd seen down South. When I got back to London people were oblivious to any bad weather in Scotland and it may me realise then, and may times since, that we seem to live in two different worlds north to south UK with gradients in between but, back then, it was not even mentioned on the news which am axed me at the time.
  4. Remember Freddy well. Went to Spain for a week and it cost £27 all in at a hotel in Costa Brava. Worst holiday I had but married my then girl friend so best holiday in the end and, yes, we are still happily married. Oh, and to keep it on topic - it was hot.
  5. Looks like the GFS is delaying the cold for a while according to the Mad Thread but deeper cold will eventually reach us. If I was sensible I would wait until the latter part of the weekend to see what the forecasts are then and what JP and Coast have to say but, like almost everyone else, I don't have the patience.
  6. Just take a look in the Mad Thread as its party time and everyone is happy. I expect all the regional threads to explode in about a weeks time, or before, and bout time too.
  7. This is fun. I'm laying in my sick bed at home looking out the window hoping for some sunlight to cheer me up and guess what! It's absolutely belting down plus hail. I feel so good now - not.
  8. If you want to see what it's like at Lands End have a look at this web cam. www.houselbay.com It's the cam for the Housel Bay Hotel .
  9. Quick question - I am using an iPad and log in as usual with the "remember me" box ticked. However, if I then want to view the radar I have to log in again and if I go to another web site and come back log in procedure starts again. I thought once you logged in you only do it once if remember me is ticked. Ah! Weather - perfectly calm here in gloomy Lee.

  11. Booked a train from London to Cardiff mid morning Tuesday so hoping, in vain, that winds have dropped by then and flooding at a minimum or none at all but wishful thinking on my part.
  12. This may be of interest to anyone else expecting friends/family tonight landing at City Airport. Apparently my daughters aircraft is a Avro RJ100 Avroliner which, as far as I can discover, has a maximum demonstrated landing cross wind of 35kts or around 40mph. Should be interesting and I suspect there could be cancellations as they can't divert elsewhere I guess judging by tonight's wind forecast for London. I presume the same applies to all the other airports. Any pilots around?
  13. Thanks Coast. That's some reading to do but it looks like she may be lucky if marginal from what I make of it. She had better make it as she has my present!
  14. My daughter is flying into city airport tonight at 8.30pm from Switzerland! Not sure what the wind speed limit is for planes landing but any chance flights will be cancelled?
  15. No posts for nearly two and a half hours on here - where is everyone?
  16. Apologies as I think the snow map is in the wrong thread.
  17. I'm hoping this image is viewable as it's the first one I've ever posted. This should show the current snow cover for the Northern Hemisphere with the previously mentioned two tiny dots of hope for Scotland. Anyone know how current snow cover compares with last year?
  18. Here is the latest snow cover for the Northern Hemisphere with a tiny glimmer of hope of two small dots for Scotland?Won't be long now.....Said he hopefully. Forget that last post as map did not load....oooops!
  19. I can't seem to upload the image so if someone else could please. If you look at the Jet stream chart for Friday 2/11 at 186 I'm sure it's an image of some crazy big bird striding over the UK. But then again I could be wrong……...
  20. Quick downpour then 5 mins break and just started again. Presume no activity other than rain today?
  21. Following on from Coast's open top car theme my wife has a Nissan Figaro and its been parked in full sunshine for last 2 weeks. The sun managed to put a 2 ft crack in the windscreen and the insurance company have had a pig of a day tracking a replacement. Apparently, it's happened to many.
  22. Question for JP. We all await your fax charts but I just wondered how long it takes you to make these forecasts using tonight's at 10.37pm as an example?
  23. Well sad as it may seem only 2810lollypop and myself are left to prop up the South East & East Anglia forum at this hour of the morning (1.52am). Even I am flagging and the ever increasing concerned looks from my wife tells me I am completely mad and should get some sleep. I keep looking at the radar in the misguided belief that something will appear that will be spectacular but its an ever circle of expectation that keeps me awake for unhealthy periods of hours on end. Even the mad thread have gone to sleep which should tell me I am wasting my time so I shall graciously leave it to 2810loolypop to bravely burn the candle into the night and I wish you luck with radar watching, storm chasing, snow, wind, rain or sun. Goodnight (well, for a few minutes at least!).
  24. Sorry, I mean the large blob off of Holland at present. Seems to have been a lot of activity emanating from there today but it all disappears before reaching ours shores. Would that be due to the very cold temps of the water ?
