I have to say the chances of snow are slim to zero away from the Scottish mountains and it looks very like the cool zonal pattern we had last winter sadly due to occasional milder days.
This pattern is a lot better than last year. Although I agree it looks unlikely that most of us will see any snow for a while yet

Not a bad ECM with a chance of wintry showers throughout the run from the Peak District northwards

Certainly feel cold away from London and the South East

Think you need to take a look at the ECM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ECM has been all over the place recently at 168+ . Lets see if its still there tomorrow. I doubt the GFS will be far off

Well after a very mild weekend, it will feel cold next week! Maybe some possible wintry showers in the far north for a time too. Later next week, the Azores High will bring a return to settled weather and it will feel milder again. No signs of any widespread snow in the 0-14 day range

Those are really quite poor with temperatures on the way up in December rather than down!

Good ECM tonight if you are looking for a dry December. Probably fairly mild too with little in the way of frost

Can you please explain how you have come to that assumption?
Just seen your reply but high pressure will also influence the jet and just as much chance to drive it south.
Quite clearly evidenced on the GFS 9 panel charts. The northern arm of the jet stopping any UK cold spell for the next 2 weeks

Care to explain why,? Any Charts to back up this comment?
The roaring northern arm of the jet. High pressure ain't going to go further north.

A really nice day 6 from the UKMO 12z, I can see potential from there...
High pressure will move south from that position and bring a return to milder/cloudier Atlantic weather

So in summary tonights models suggest a dry start to December followed by a return to wetter and milder pattern in the 2nd week. Meanwhile, the Eastern states of America can prepare for another Polar Vortex!

The models today remind of this time last year (i.e. a quiet start to December before the jet increases followed by a wet spell of weather for Northern Europe)

18z keeps it dry next week but increasingly cloudy and mild

Moderate snow around Buxton. A covering on roads. Peak roads are still open so nothing major.
-
Here in the Peak District the snow is as follows:
Below 1000 feet some wet snow but mainly rain or sleet
Below 1400 feet wet snow maybe 1 or 2cm
Above 1400 feet heavy snow and blustery winds probably 6cm or so
Snow also in north staffordshire moorlands above 1000 feet

Just heard an update on Radio 5 Live, Cat & Fiddle still just passable apparently.
Snow ploughs are working today. Road is clear 15 mins ago

40cm of snow in Buxton!
Should be an interesting thaw overnight!
-
Deep and drifting no doubt. Always amazes me that Staffordshire, not Cumbria, Wales or the Highlands has the highest village in Britain!
Drifts were over 4 feet this morning in the wind
All roads are blocked so no idea how bad it is now
