That would be the storm hitting me right now! It's fantastic. The rain isn't super heavy but it's more or less a direct hit! Plenty of lightning.(I probably should've changed my location since I've spent half of July visiting family and friends; I'm about 300m up in the White Peak, near the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border)
Science only seems to be described as 'not black and white' (which to me goes against its very definition!) and disputed by non-scientists when its findings have implications on the way we live.
This first assertion is almost completely untrue from my point of view, and I think part of the 'Great Divide' lies in the different stances that each 'camp' has on that claim.
10/10 for the first ten days. Since then, there simply hasn't been enough sunshine and it's been too windy, too. Too many days of low and/or persistent cloud despite it not being too wet. I would've much preferred more days of sunshine + showers. I'm thankful for having nothing too hot. I'll go for 7/10.
Well of course, but when German is used as the daily language I'd feel very uncomfortable resorting to English day-in, day-out, even if Austrians are very happy to practise their English. It makes me feel bad if some of my non-native speaker friends are together and speaking English, just because I'm in the room.(I realise this has absolutely nothing to do with the weather)
I'd love to get to know Austria better. Now that I'm coming close to mastering French, I'm taking German and looking forward to seeing the other end of the Alps one day.
Well I don't mind if it's not technically warm. I'd feel much less warm under a tropical low dumping heavy rain over the country with 25c maxima and 18c minima. Dry and sunny at this time of year normally means it 'feels' warm and I don't see many complaining at that.
Yep, it seems this is worsening all the time and over a wide area too. My Facebook feed is, ahem, awash with photos from a huge swathe of Austria, some of Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and surely other places too.
I get why SSTs would have a big impact during unsettled weather, but how would they affect anything much when we're talking about settled weather with light winds and 'homegrown' heat? Not a rhetorical question, just wondering. Anyway, I suspect the relatively dry ground and air will mean below average minima but much far above average maxima. Perfect.
The Met Office outlooks are definitely very nice. Here in Glasgow, I don't think it's quite reached 20c yet, but it still feels very warm all the same. A cool, sunny month where the rain falls in showers rather than all day long is far more enjoyable than a month like June 2006.
Snow now seems to be settling at Flash, Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, though I imagine accumulations will be very temporary.

He's clearly talking 'further south' as in the south of Scotland/central belt. And plus, Altnaharra was still warmer than anywhere in the south of England.
