I understand what your saying Adam , but very rare do the TV (ITV &BBC ) companies get their forecasts so wrong nowadays, I would imagine because of the involvement with the media /Met Office they cant afford to be far off the mark ...that's why I think Met O share their secret data/model info with certain high profile TV/media organisations to get the correct (as near as they can be) message out.

BTW not sure if anyone watched Paul Hudsons weather forecast - Look North ...thought he underplayed the potential for our region , I suppose he has to tread carefully at the moment ...he will prob sharpen up his Friday forecast more tomorrow evening. I generally like Paul Hudsons forecast as he dos'nt ramp or get too excited , unlike some !

Looks like a deepening low for Monday as well as well as the Friday event .....very windy and loads of more snow potential for Mon/Tues also

Seems to be day 6- 8 we are heading back to the warmer Atlantic, seems we have a short burst of snow tomorrow (2-5 cm) followed by some sunny cold days up to Friday and then maybe temps edging up slowly through the weekend , yes the absence of posters in the model thread tells you the story ..!

Not often a poster more of a watcher ....but something strikes me tonight that maybe the models are modelling the correct solution ,all very nearly...! with such fine differances could we not have a halfway house scenario where all models are there or thereabouts ...almost a battleground situation over the UK ? where so many Winters have been like in the past , higher temps and wetter in the West and a little more Wintry and colder in the East...? Why can't this be the scenario ? Most on here seem to either be wishcasting saying that certain models must be wrong , but the models all might be around the money , like has been said before the differances are very small meteorologically, the differance being the UK it seems will be on the either one side ,theother side or like I say in the MIDDLE .. Sorry mods for not showing any charts on this but I feel that has been done to bits from all models in earlier post ,hope you get my drift ..!

The winds will feel raw from tonight onwards they are penetrating on a Nthly /N Eastly direction , that cold Central European air will be felt for at least 4 days looking at the Countryfile forecast , then we have the big hammer of the Atlantic trying to smash the cold air back , could be a battleground set up over the UK and historically these have sometimes left us with a dumping , I remember back in the late 70's and early 1980's these set ups often brought a swift dumping, but generally the warmer ,wetter fronts genrally win out and they soon thaw.

I would suggest that this average dos'nt include the UK , our westerly incursions (as we will see by the end of this week) keep us historically warmer than Central and Eastern Europe during Winter - and the trend over the last 30 years is we ARE getting warmer ...the stats show that !

Is this system due to change direction ...everyone is forecasting snow for here but the radar looks like it will clear here by 9ish ...am I missing something ...still nothing at all here ...just rain ...wet roads, no sign of the freezing rain also (not that we want that - v dangerous) ..temp still hovering around 0c

ITV Calender weather forecast states no more than 1cm for "our area" ...im sure some places have more than that now ? what a strange forecast ?? anyway v light snizzle here atm ..not settling atm ...seems like nothing for us according to the radar ...I said that Sat early and we got some later so who knows , thought we might have had something though already

Local ITV news Calender forecast no more than 1 cm for our region tonight ...not sure which model they are reading ..very light snizzle here atm @18:30 nothing settling ..way too wet , temps have dropped to 0c though ...lets see what happens over next few hours....!!

Currently raining in Sheffield city centre - Temp 1.4 C atm ... so is the idea the temps will fall ??...as we are'nt going to see snow at these temps currently...this rain currently thawing the piles left from Saturday.

Yes very poor still here in South Sheffield ...its just not sticking at all (very sleety) still a couple of hours left ...you never know!!!
