  1. I hear a lot about the Jan 87 event, but would have been too young to remember it. How would it have compared with the Feb 2009 Easterly for those in the SE?
  2. Why are people saying it will be as cold as Dec 2010 later in the week when back then the uppers were around -10, and this time around a lot lower (I know to expect some downgrades down the line), so surely we will see a lot colder conditions. Just wondering. Can't wait for Wednesday, when it will be madness in here, and clicking refresh every minute gets you about 20 new posts,
  3. Yep, had 8 inches! Stayed up all night thinking theres no way I can get to work and enjoyed the snow for a couple of days!
  4. good to be back... hopefully get a huge fall to rival/surpass this exact time 3 years ago, the best snow event in my living memory.
  5. sorry going to ask the question again, do these GFS precipitation charts show a cumulative accumulation, or what is chucked down in a given period, if the latter, what is the period.
  6. Friday might see a little snow, but I think were looking at about a week from now for the main event.
  7. wow, snow entering the reliable time frame. Do those GFS precipitation charts show cumulative accumulations or what is expected to fall in a given period.
  8. cheers, I do remember 2010's Nov/Dec freeze having a similar theme. Hopefully the models will pick it up out of the blue for the very near future. Sometimes I feel like Neo from the Matrix, and wish there was some pill to swallow to not find this forum. Whilst learning about the weather is great fun, the over analysing every last detail kinda ruins the surprise. Anyways I can't wait for when this place gets so busy that 5 pages go by when you come back after an hour.
  9. @ john pike. Do you remember how far out the models latched onto the Feb 2009 easterly?
  10. id bet on an early feb cold spell. A repeat of Feb 2009 would be nice.
  11. how is our snowfall prospects for Friday, seeing mainly sub -5 uppers
  12. about 5oC here in West London, moderate rain... Hopfully see some white stuff tomorrow morning!
  13. my first post of the season. I for one am hoping for a lot of snow... hopefully beating the last 3 winters.... I'm calling for first snowfall in November. Major disruptive snow in December, a brief 'mild' spell in January, and another thames streamer (Feb 2009) event in February dumping 12" of snow all over South East England.
  14. I'd say (from a very basic knowledge) that any lying snow would melt a lot quicker from march onwards. We need a snowfall in the next 2 weeks ideally, and it looks like nothing will get here till next weekend at the earliest. Im going to be a little bit greedy and say if it isn't going to be cold enough to snow, then bring on an early spring...
  15. i was so close to writing off the winter, but things looking very positive later next week...
  16. COME ON SNOW... An easterly would be great for us, who knows could be a repeat of Feb 2009.
  17. yep was an absolutely beautiful day today.... will be happy if we have this for a while, then one last snowfest before february is out....
  18. i've actually noted a much higher level of stress and depression amongst colleagues at works, and friends on FB, and it's definately a widespread case of SAD
  19. 12oC is what my car thermo is recording, feels really nice outside actually.
  20. i'll take mixed signals from the models rather that them all agreeing on a sustained mild spell. Whilst I did say a few days ago to enjoy the higher temps - i can see myself needing my next snow fix soon,
  21. things looking promising from the 20th onwards (according to model thread). I'm looking forward to the brief milder conditions next week, it's these 'middle' temps which I detest, what we've had for the last week or so.... double digits next weeks should be nice (I know it will be wet)... then back to the freezer for more snow,
  22. I also heard on the radio about a meto advisory for heavy snow from tomorrow midnight going into firday morning - any more news about this. Most of England is in Yellow on Meto...
