  1. Good evening all

Spent the day on the railway in Aviemore, where it had snowed a bit (and settled) before I got there.  A few flakes now and again during the day, but mainly dry.  Back home now and sleety with the odd flake mixed in.  Trying really hard but I would very surprised if we get anything lying here.  Good luck to everyone... hope some of us see a last snow of the winter!

  2. Hello all

Interesting to see the prospect of another potentially snowy spell on the horizon.  As always with these things however, 'I'll believe it when I see it', especially here :)  I was really nervous about the spell just passed, purely because snow here (especially deep snow) is not to be taken for granted given its rarity.  However, NL makes a good point about how nature would be affected by unseasonable weather.  I also volunteer on the Strathspey Railway at Aviemore, and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate snow just as they are ready to open for the season.

  3. Morning All

Just taken another measurement and up to 15cms now, which is an extra 5 overnight!  It does look pretty amazing and the roads here are appalling, though seems to be a lot more traffic on them today.  Still no buses though, which is incredible as even in 2010 they kept them running throughout.  An extremely memorable period that is now (for me at least) living up to the hype.  Still no 2010, but what is?

Decent blob looks Perth bound just now

Just been out for a quick measure, and happy to report 10cm total now.  However, as @Hawesy I believe mentioned earlier, its very difficult to get a proper measurement due to drifting and cleared surfaces etc.  In places its much deeper where its drifted, so overall not too bad, but way short of the 30cm or so that 2010 delivered here.  Some very large flakes now drifting down... was very pretty, so fingers crossed we might see a few cms more overnight!

Today we had shower to left showers to right of us Perth stuck in the middle with nothing again! ?  @edo @over_the_rainbow l I really hope we do get one big hit with 10cm of snow  ???❄️

I agree, we've still yet to hit the 'big one' so to speak.  Having said that, have been out a lot today and walking in it is very hard work, and my ankles are really killing me now! Must be the boots, as haven't used them in 8 years ;)

Not a 2010 here buttt I'm still happy with a day off work and school. Plenty of snaw to sledge in, build snowfolk and for the dog to bounce in. I'm not driving anywhere today. :good:

I quite agree... nothing like 2010, in fact I reckon about a third of that I think... currently at 7.5 cm / 3 inches or so, but still coming down (just checked and really heavy now for a change!) However, having had an approximately 2 mile or so walk in it this morning, it does temper ones enthusiasm somewhat.  Must also give a shout out to @101_North who was spot on about the school closures... exactly right mate, and I was certainly wrong to scoff :)

Good luck to everyone today and stay safe!

  7. @edo Well!  We were both wrong, and not in a good way ;) Just measured and 6cm!

Now, it does bizarrely 'feel' and look like more than that, but the measuring stick doesn't lie!

However, it's absolutely baltic and still coming down... Also the buses are apparently off until at least 10am which I've never seen before, not even in 2010, so despite the lack of depth it's starting to inch towards the 'epic' category, and hopefully more to come!

For those digging themselves out this morning, good luck, and to those with less than me, I know your pain!

    frustrating isnt it :spiteful:

its unreal how different areas are affected...

some will remember this forever as epic yet others will remember a decent snow fall

if its lasting till sunday though cpuld be epic for many especially memorable for how late in the year

i have 8cm now just been out and measured but the depth of cold and beautiful powder snow with drifts and being best fall since 2013 will make it memorable for me and for just seeing the disruption and totals elsewhere

and i may wake up to 15 more cm in morning and it enters epic

    Edo

Yep, just creeping into the 'decent' category for me now... surpasing the other falls this winter and also (not surprisingly) passing everything since 2013 I think. Still holding out hope for 'epic' though :)

Just been out after seeing your post @TinyTim and it's 5cm here (higher in drifty bits) so who knows we could even reach the glamorous heights of the 6cm @Allyw12 .

Not a patch on 2010 but still to be  fair i've... *cough*.... the KIDS...... had fun sledging tonight and it's bonny looking outside.

    otr

Glad you enjoyed it, I've not got a sledge, too old lol But, I agree, its very nice to look it, though even I'm not fussed about walking in it as it's blinking chilly :)

To be fair I thought it was a joke that our local schools were closed today. Fast forward to now and it was absolutely the correct decision. Things could change for you very quickly!

    101

Indeed, and I'm certainly no expert :) But sadly we can only go on hope if there isn't a huge amount of white stuff on the ground... You on the other hand, I'd love to see a photo of you in the snow... it would look like dandruff ;)

All schools in Perth and Kinross are to be closed tomorrow ....... and we've had heehaw here today.:unknw:

I'm sorry, but that's laughable :) I know that snow prediction is sometimes pot luck and an absolute headache for the authorities, but I really wasn't expecting that... as you say, we've really missed out today (3cm currently outside here!).  Now, our experts as well as the online forecasts still seem to think overnight will deliver, and that must be why they have taken the decision... but as I seem to say all the time, we'll have to see!

There's a slight lull in proceedings here as the Forth snow monster gobbles up the showers and sends them hurtling through the Central Belt. I'm not too worried though - for a start we've already done pretty well (hard to get a level depth because of the drifting but my average depth was 13cm, as low as 8cm in places and as high as 20cm in some drifts) but also both the EURO4 and the NMM take the zone of prolonged pasting northwards from around 3-4pm while there's still easily enough to keep the fun going in the southern part of the red warning area. This is a very slow moving, intense feature hence the red warning but if you're a bit north of it I still think you should be in for a decent snowfall later on this evening and into tomorrow.

    LS

Just what we here need to hear I think :) Amazing depths in places... 101 especially... you'll have to be happy with that ;)

The 06z Euro4 is full of snow for some parts:

And then at +24hrs you can clearly see the trough and convergence line which were on the FAX chart discussed earlier:

Probs best to window watch and radar guess alongside the charts.

Cheers, will take those first two :) Hope everyone is enjoying what they have!

(Going to shut up now lol)

What? Old Perth outside the red warning? :nonono: Happy with yellow or amber but would like some more snaw pretty please :)

    otr

Yep, just missed us by a couple of miles looks like... but, that looks accurate, as has been very little here for the past few hours... but, I'm still banking on the experts in here thinking there is more tonight, so still running on hope for now :)
