  1. Most of the snow is gone here now, a few patches here and there, but there are still plenty of drifts.

I plan to eventually move to hills, somewhere like the North York Moors, higher parts of the Yorkshire wolds. Already been looking at places/prices and it seems the further out you go the cheaper it is. Only problem is commuting. lack of amenities, less job prospects etc. But if it means 50cm becomes 50 inches I think it will be worth it. laugh.png

Yes, that's an issue for me too, I'm a city guy at heart. wink.png

  2. the vast majority of the gbp dont like the cold

Of course they don't, and this is another point that I forgot to pick up on - are we supposed to adhere to what the 'majority' want or prefer? I cannot stress this enough - I really don't care what the majority of people want. I really don't. Most people in this country only want to watch X-Factor and listen to Lady Gaga, but I'd sooner cut my own arm off than watch or listen to either.

  3. Aaron, why do you get so angry about the weather?

I'm not angry in the slightest, but I am increasingly annoyed at some of the comments being posted on here and in other parts of the forum, such as one's implying that people shouldn't enjoy cold weather, look for cold weather, or that there is no point in cold weather, simply because they don't like it, think it is pointless or can't understand people enjoying cold weather. I have never once questioned the preferences of others, or attacked anyone for enjoying a type of weather that I dislike (such as heat), so I am confused as to why other people think it is totally okay to do the same to people who enjoy cold weather. Is it really so hard to accept that people enjoy different things, even if you yourself cannot understand it? I've looked over the past few pages of this thread and it is essentially the same thing being posted again and again, but worded differently than before. Seems like a waste of time to me.

In fact, I could probably sum up what has been said on here since this thread's creation, on its 106 pages, in just a few short points..

    1. Rob doesn't like cold, it affects him financially

    2. Everyone else is aware of this and understands, and do not wish for cold to begrudge him

    3. People don't like the bias in the MOD thread, it should change

    4. People enjoy extremes and have different preferences

    5. Gavin is losing the plot.. lol (we all love Gavin really)

  4. Rob- I will continue hoping for a continuation of cold, snowy weather for as long as it is realistically possible (mid April or so), and there is absolutely nothing that you can say or do that can change my way of thinking. You are fighting a losing battle by repeating yourself on a daily basis. If that makes me, god forbid, a sadistic sociopath, heartless, ignorant or whatever else, then you are perfectly entitled to that opinion, and I am, of course, perfectly entitled to ignore you. I will continue 'championing' the cold, as you put it, and I am not bothered if I offend anyone, they can ignore my posts if I am that much of a bother. I am not cheering gleefully at the suffering of others, but I am not going to play down my enthusiasm for a certain type of weather because it is affecting other people. Sorry, but that's the truth. No two ways around it.

As for bias in the MOD thread - I'll agree to that. The MOD should be about unbiased and objectionable posts that summarise what the models are showing, rather than putting their own spin on things by declaring that certain charts are great, or that the projected outlook is good for everyone, when we all know that is not the case. Everyone, of course, has a weather preference, and I only desire cold, snowy weather in winter, but I do not object to windstorms or record-breaking warmth, purely from an interest perspective, and I do genuinely love windstorms. During the rest of the year, I desire mild weather, thunderstorms, hail, gales, or anything record breaking, essentially anything that mother nature can throw at us. However, one cannot help but notice that these debates only arise when the proclaimed 'mildies' return, many of whom unnecessarily attack cold lovers simply for desiring weather that they do not like, and start going in guilt trips by mentioning their own problems - perfectly valid of course, but using it as a personal tool to get people to start disdaining a type of weather is pretty pointless. Not needed at all IMO.

  5. Clearly my post was deemed too 'offensive', so I shall reiterate what I said while sounding insincerely polite, in two points (I just hope this post isn't considered too blunt for the mods!):

    1. This is a weather forum aimed at people who are, er, enthusiastic about the weather (shocker!), attacking people for enjoying adverse weather (snow, storms, cold, heat) is illogical and meaningless. I challenge to you give me an example of something truly enjoyable that poses no risk at all. Reading or knitting excluded.

    2. Attacking people for enjoying cold weather - why? Why ruin the discussion on this forum by jumping onto anyone who dares proclaim their enjoyment of this weather? I very much doubt such a thing would occur during a summer heatwave, it certainly didn't occur in March 2012 or April 2011, even though extended warm and dry weather causes enough of its own problems, and I doubt it occurred in 2006. The effects of heat have been pointed out here already, so it seems like a case of double-standards, when one is willing to overlook the negative aspects of certain weather types because they enjoy it, while attacking others.

I hope that is nice enough for you?

I have distinct feeling of Déjà vu here.

As am I. I swear you bring this exact 'moral' issue every time people start enjoying weather that is adverse. I don't see the point at all, but there you go. I suppose the ignore function comes in handy here, it's better than clogging the forum with arguments about issues that have been beaten to death already. I think we have already established that people will not stop enjoying severe weather on a weather forum, unless you propose a different purpose for this forum. For the time being, I'm afraid you'll have to come to terms with the fact that the vast majority on here enjoy severe weather, but this certainly doesn't equal people reveling in the misery and suffering of others. A bit of perspective is needed here.
