  1. Summer 2011 - started March ended April. Autumn 2011: Started mid-July, continuing.
  2. The type of summer that you don't remember because nothing happened in it. It was just plain, not dire but not great. It was.. well, boring. Of course this depends on your location, only the Scots should complain really since they've had one of their wettest August's on record.
  3. Only 23cm in December 2010? That's pretty low considering we got more here around 90 meters asl and parts of Leeds got around a foot.
  4. Wonder if we'll start seeing white dots in the Highlands soon?
  5. Sleet in Altnaharra at 7C is possible. It's unlikely but it can happen, so we should wait and see.
  6. The skies will need to clear first in Scotland, If it's still raining up there. Currently 10 °C at Leeds Airport station, so if skies clear more, a chilly night for us.. hopefully our first ground frost won't be too long.
  7. Wow, these figures are astonishingly low. Especially for the likes of Shawbury.
  8. I don't see why it should be. It is entirely possible, even at such high temperatures.
  9. To think, Altnaharra is at a same elevation as me... how unfair!
  10. Below freezing at CairnGorm summit now.
  11. You know, I can't help but feel jealous, I want some "real" weather..
  12. So Irene made landfall on New York City as a category 1 hurricane but shortly after was downgraded to a TS, hm. Just for thought, in Scotland there are 58 mph sustained winds, stronger than Irene in New York.
  13. Let's have a repeat soon please!
  14. Snow in March and April is a relatively common occurrence here, I'd dare see it's been just, if not more common, then snow in November and December over the past 10 years. I witnessed sleet in May and October last year.
  15. Highest snow depth 2010/2011: 25 cm on 3rd. Highest snow depth 2009/2010: Between 15 and 20 cm. Highest snow depth ever: Over 40 cm in 1995. (there's been much deeper snow here though in the 70's especially, before I began recording weather events)
  16. Laura Tobin yesterday mentioned the possibility of snow across the Scottish Mountains, any reports yet?
  17. The snow in my neighbours back garden in early December. Pretty deep, even deeper snow drifts.
  18. It's like snow, it causes disruption in the UK and even causes fatalities, but that isn't going to stop people from wanting it. Gales are rather exciting, and it's sad that lives are lost and properties are damaged but that is not going to stop me from wanting my autumn storms. People have a preference of weather believe it or not. My thoughts exactly. I don't wish for damaging storms that take peoples lives, but if I woke up one day and the wind was howling at 50 MPH I'd probably go outside to experience it! Early December was good for snow, around 25 cm here, could be more though as underneath the powdery snow was compact, solid snow that fell earlier in November. Late December was better for cold though, the River Aire in central Leeds froze from bank to bank for the first time since 1963 I believe. Looks around the same amount of snow we got but you seemed to get more since we had around 8 - 9 inches depending on surface.. I guess being further north doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get more snow, though the snow doesn't seem to last very long down south, that was proven after the heavy snowfall in the south east on the 1st of December, 60 cm of snow fell on parts of Sussex downs but quickly melted a few days later.
  19. On Friday 26 August I had a maximum temperature of 13.3C and a minimum of 8C
  20. December 2010 far exceeded the snow of 2009 and 2009 - 2010 in this area. February 2009 was rather unimpressive here to be honest, I don't recall how much snow actually fell but it can't be more than 20 cm. January 2010 was pretty unimpressive in terms of snow depth too, but it lasted for two weeks with sub zero temperatures. The only complaint I have of December 2010 was the final half of the month. We had no snow here in east Leeds, it was very, very cold with a permanent rime frost and all the lakes/fountains frozen, but there was only a few snow flurries.
  21. January was pretty average, plenty of frost and snow for this part of the world. You are misquoting Brian. He has no views at the moment, it's way too early. Winter of 2008 - 2009 good for snow but crap for cold in all honesty. January 2009 was colder.
  22. A downpour to my east and north, will it come here? Probably not!
