  1. My intuition is that this winter will be the coldest ever on record.
  2. Can't you keep them in the garage for the winter as -5c isn't an unusual temperature for northern England even in a normal winter?
  3. Alright then. Seen a few people saying it might increase the chances of a mild winter in Western Europe.
  4. -10c I believe at Heathrow,. There are records of the temperature falling to -21c some time int he 17 or 1800's. I've seen a few people saying this winter will see a weak La Nina which will strengthen later on, compared to last winters strong La Nina, which might mean wintry in the latter half of winter? Not sure though.
  5. There has been an increase in solar activity in recent days, anyone got any idea what effect this might have on our winter this year?
  6. The north east has, here it's a storm desert. Heck, it's even a rain desert!
  7. Well, the Leeds weather shield is working well. Hardly a spot of rain today despite the forecast, certainly not as wide spread as first though!
  8. After a forecast for torrential rain and thunder.. we have had the grand total of.. 0.7 mm. Sunny spells now and 15c
  9. November - December 2010 without a doubt. We had successive snow showers which gave around 15 cm in November. On the 1st of December, a decaying snow streamer moved northwards and gave us around 15 cm. We ended up with 25 cm, with 40 cm snow drifts, temperatures on the 3rd fell to -13c here and Google weather listed the temperature for Leeds as -16c! In late December we had no snow here in east Leeds, but was very, very cold with a permanent rime frost and frozen fountains which looked stunning. The mean temperature for the entire month for me was -0.5c. 2009 - 2010 is a close second. We didn't really get any exceptional snow, around 15 - 20 cm which lasted two weeks in January, but all three winter months were colder than average. We had a white Christmas with 3 inches of snow in December 2009. February 2010 was dry and cold with a lot of ice, many pavements were treacherous and impossible to walk on. We had 3 inches one morning in late February. February 2009 was the deepest snow I had seen for a while, but the month was actually slightly above average, January 2009 was colder, the snow lasted around two weeks but only because it turned to ice very quickly. Then we have January 2004, the snow depths weren't great but I remember walking home up a steep hill, the snow was blowing horizontally into my face, proper blizzard conditions, my face was so cold to the point I almost cried!
  10. I think my area would be a good contender for one of the driest places this summer in the UK.
  11. Torrential rain for Northern England and Southern Scotland. Local weather here saying thunder is possible too.
  12. BBC are going for torrential rain tomorrow for northern England/southern Scotland, with possible thunder.
  13. January: 33.8 mm (below average) February: 75.9 mm (much above average) March: 11.1 mm (much below average) April: 1.5 mm (extremely below average) May: 32.5 mm (below average) June: 52.5 mm (slightly below average) July: 35.8 mm (below average) August so far: 9.3 mm
  14. That cell over in West Yorkshire seems to have weakened, we'll see what happens, doubt it'll make it here though and if it does it will probably have weakened significantly/
  15. A cell has popped up over the Pennines, looks like a few more might pop up from some drizzly stuff similar to that that was over Lincolnshire earlier.
  16. A maximum temperature of 25.1°C today, now 20.3°C. A brief but very intense thunderstorm earlier, with a rain rate of 72.1 mm/hr. Lots of large clouds building all around, especially towards the south-east.
  17. I posted in here yesterday, but I'm afraid I have to leave after a brief but very intense thunderstorm at around 1pm today, good luck to all, I'm sure your time will come
  18. More showers developing around here, wonder if I can be lucky and catch my second one today, certainly seems possible as more towering clouds build to the west.
  19. Just had a storm in Leeds, CG lightning, monsoon-like rain, loud thunder, gusty winds, absolute madness, the streets were completely flooded
  20. Wow, today could be my lucky day, all those charts put me in a good position for once this year! (don't want to jinx it, though)
