  1. Radar looks fine to me, the precipitation isn't moving very fast and is covering a large area. Met say heavy snow until tomorrow AM.
  2. Subzero dew point is crucial, snow should settle at that point regardless of how wet the ground is.
  3. Met forecast looks promising still, so let's wait and see. I'm not really interested in wet snow that doesn't settle.
  4. Still sleet here. Guess the snowline is dropping, or perhaps it isn't.. maybe it will stay above 100m.
  5. Not only the elevation, but the fact that it's at the centre of a city of some 750,000 people doesn't help! Glad I live in the 'burbs during these situations.
  6. NAE shows some snow accumulation later today on a relatively widespread basis, with falling dews and 850pha temperatures, so don't give up hope just yet.
  7. Well, I can safely say that it is definitely not snowing here.
  8. Odd, shows South Yorks under a yellow warning on the map.
  9. Seems GFS has had a good handle on things for the NW but NAE has done better for Yorkshire - so pick whatever model you want, we won't know until tomorrow! PS, hello, we over on the Yorkshire thread share your frustration with the southern bias on the MOD thread!
  10. It may be (probably will be) raining in London. Probably snow north of London.
  11. Looks like Barnsley is in a prime position for some decent snowfall - you may encounter some issues as it's forecast to be snowing heavily by that time, but you'll have to wait and see and check just before you leave as it's better not to set off at all than to get stuck on the motorway.
  12. I'm located at 282 feet above sea level. Leeds city centre varies a lot topographically, areas close to the river go below 30 metres, while areas close to the Inner Ring Road go up to 70 metres. According to Google earth, parts of Castleford are as low down as 15 metres (49 feet), so it's no surprise that it usually does worse than Leeds for snowfall (you may remember posts from Castleford/Normanton saying they had rain before it turned to snow, while it was all snow in Leeds). In general though, West Yorkshire is a good place for snow, and we do well in marginal situations.
  13. The Met forecasts for individual locations are automated, based on raw output alone and change hourly so cannot be taken seriously, they're just a rough guide. NAE precipitation accumulation charts 48 hours out look good, more so for western areas. Looks like coastal areas or areas close to the coast will miss out on most of the action simply because the front will be lighter by the time it reaches there.
  14. Not at all! Our area of low pressure is still out in the Atlantic, and won't be over Ireland until Sunday early morning.
  15. That front is moving in a N-S orientation, it's not coming over here, and has been in the same location for hours.
  16. Not as much snow as Boston, Massachusetts, I can cay with the uttermost certainty.
