  1. A max of 2.6C today and a min of 2.1C results in one of the smallest diurnal ranges I have ever recorded, possibly the smallest. Two other things of note.. First month since December 2010 to not go above 10C looks certain First month with an average low below freezing since Dec 10/Jan 11 looks certain.
  2. Northern Hemisphere sets new, all-time record cold temperature: -96.1°F In Oymyakon Siberia !! -- Earth Changes -- Sott.net Actually, it appears the whole thing is lost in translation and the apparent record is just a refutable record back in the 1920s, another media screw up - ignore this thread please, lol.

    August 1992.

It was a very cool summer month at Leeds Weather Centre with an average maximum of 19.2C, but it was not exceptionally wet, with 71.9 mm of rain.
  4. Virtually no rain for 10 days, can't see any in the forecast either. I see a few snow grains on the bin lid though.
  5. Steady light snow. That area of PPN to the NE has really pepped up.
  6. Light snow falling. Highly doubt any snow that falls will be enough to cause disruption. 2 - 5 cm at best, I'd expect a mere dusting here.
  7. Suddenly snowing lightly, settling instantly on bin lids.
  8. NAE shows a rather large area of snow for our region, but when precipitation is that light it probably equates to localised showers, and it doesn't know where these showers are going to crop up so it just assumes everywhere will get light snow.
  9. Well hope that it's your locale that gets the best falls!
  10. Yeah GFS and UKMO both show a trough over the weekend, it actually looks quite promising for light snow. NAE looks rather reluctant to bring any potential snow inland, but it only goes out to 48 hours so more runs are needed.
  11. As I suspected, totally cloudy here, not a hint of sun, and set to stay that way for the rest of this week. Even more reasons to hate useless easterly winds.
  12. I see way more snow than thunderstorms, definitely, thunderstorms were my favourite type of weather a few years ago though because they occurred so frequently it seems, but now I hardly see any.
  13. Just a shame that this sunny period has come to an end, we could have easily broken 100 hours and rivaled February 2008.
  14. Not a single overhead storm here last year, truly appalling, never had a year so bad for storms in my entire life. Saw some good storms in the vicinity though, one particular storm affected most of Leeds but this little area on the eastern outskirts totally missed out! Literally a few miles west and there was an absolute deluge. I like to think of it as nature's way of balancing things out - I do quite well for snow, so I can't do well for thunderstorms, too (straws are tightly clutched!). Ah, well, it can only get better, I suppose. Doesn't help that I've already missed out on a few thundery downpours though.
  15. Good video Backtrack - my Samsung digital camera cannot use an intervalometer (at least, I don't think it can). I made a time lapse of fog coming in and out by recording it for 20 - 30 mins and then editing it in Windows Movie Maker, but with an intervalometer I could make a time lapse for a lot longer, hours even, so I need to invest in a DSLR camera.
  16. Well I should point out that we're not far off 2008 levels to date, we're still a long way off the actual sunshine hours for that month.
  17. There was low cloud this morning, I was going to take a screen shot of the satellite image.
  18. Today epitomises why I hate easterlies - was cloudy here until around 1pmish (only an estimate as I was indoors most of the time) while most of the country basked in sunshine. Well, we've been very sunny while other areas have been pretty cloudy, so I guess it's only fair. Tomorrow looks very sunny. Already down to 0.3C here.
  19. We're not far off 2008 levels, but as mentioned in my edited post, we need cloud to be at a minimum. We have less sunless days than February 2008, though (so far, at least).
  20. Locally? I can't find an occurrence of such a thing, certainly not at Bradford which is the only station in the area to have freely available sunshine hours all the way back to 1908. Church Fenton had 97.7 hours in 2008 and Bradford had 98.9 hours. Church Fenton had one day missing, so I'm pretty sure it was sunnier than Bradford and probably exceeded 100 hours. EDIT - after further digging around I can confirm that Church Fenton had 107.1 hours of sun in February 2008, but we need to hope that the upcoming spell of high pressure is not a cloudy one.
  21. it's interesting from a statistical point of view, getting the wettest month on record would be a noteworthy event, but it isn't enjoyable to be outside in. Everyone has preferences, and if you like warm weather in perpetuity, then that is completely fine, and if your work depends on it being mild as opposed to cold and snowy, then I can completely understand, but I enjoy cold, snowy weather and that is unlikely to change until I am retired and may end up wanting to settle down in Majorca. There's no point in insulting people for liking something you don't (I feel my post on the previous page may have been too much, but I do feel strongly about this subject, weather-wise or not, and at the end of the day, we're all here because we have a common interest).
