  1. In Winter in paticular Crewe and in fact most of South Cheshire seems to miss out on anything major. At times the difference between the North and South of the county is unbeliveable. Taking last Winter as an example which was good here in Crewe but could of been better in terms of snowfall as Poynton, Stockport Macclesfield areas where I visited family at Christmas, all still in Cheshire but just that bit North saw heavy snow showers and decent snow cover several days before Christmas where as back home in South Cheshire Crewe saw some promising light-moderate snow flurries that in the end did not stick much at all. We had to wait for the major snowfall event of the night of the 4th into the 5th of January to see decent snowfall totals 12-15cm for a time in fact but even then places that see often the least snow in the North west like Liverpool and the Wirral saw closer to 20cm and blizzard like conditions in places due to the heavier intensity of the snow there as bands of decently heavy snow showers continued to persist to the north and west of us right through into the 6th leaving Crewe and South Cheshire with the left overs. This is often the case also during Summer storms they are often way far south of us or pass us by whilst giving locations only 10-15 miles away flash flooding. Sometimes I feel Crewe is always in the wrong place at the wrong time often when it matters in terms of severe weather, fingers crossed for something better this coming Autumn/Winter!
  2. I guess sadly we will miss out on the storms but maybe a chance of some outbreaks of rain soon as it looks very dark and threatening out there. 17:48- Light-moderate rain now beginning to fall here.
  3. Been out walking the dogs this afternoon and have noticed it has begun in the last hour or so to look increasingly threatening with the sky looking quite dark and stormy like right now. Nothing yet however but I am crossing my fingers for prehaps a passing storm from the Midlands later??
  4. Made me jump back a bit that forecast for Monday as the BBC seems to take the low just that bit further North and West than the latest GFS and seems to increase the intensity over the west too, some flooding from Thunder storms/very heavy rain etc... if this forecast is correct could be a major problem in the south and south wales in paticular. Has todays event started yet for any in Wales and the midlands as its dried up a bit here in Crewe but still looks at times on the threatening side??
  5. Rain has now stopped here in Crewe but I would not rule out some of the rain pushing up here from the Midlands later. I dont know whether this will hold any storms so I guess I will just have to wait and see.
  6. Very heavy rain here in Weston. What a surprise I was not expecting anything at all here. Some further heavy downpours look like they are moving up on the rain today radar torwards here later. Maybe Crewe is in for a chance after all!!
  7. Crewe storm sheild again at it again tommorow, we always seem to miss out on any action! So close yet so far!
  8. I just knew this sort of thing unfortunate would happen to poor Tom I think he is a bit gaff prone and seems to be in the news for the wrong reasons way to much for a weather forecaster! But IMO he is a superb presenter that offers the most in depth forecasts of the younger presenters on BBC weather. He does need to tone it down a bit though or all his talent will just go down the drain if he puts one more step wrong as the beeb will just get sick of him attention seeking and give him the boot out the door, it would be such a waste of a very good forecaster.
  9. Just had a heavy passing downpour here in Weston sky looking quite dark currently. Have you caught any downpours near you yet Crewe Cold??
  10. It has to be Winter I love British Winters just the right mix of everything whether it be snow and frost, gales and storms or just the beautiful crisp sunny days where the sky is ice blue and the wind chill bitter. I am and always have been a big cold and snow lover and enjoy the excitement and buzz all the weather forums seem to have about them during Winter paticulary last year that saw the worst winter since the 90s with some decent snowfalls to watch I felt like a little kid again . Fingers crossed for a another very cold and snowy one this year!
  11. I do remember that severe storm very well I had just moved into a new house the week before and could not believe the amount of rain it turned my then unsurfaced road into a muddy fast flowing river taking everyone by surprise. If I remember rightly it was a simmilar sort of unsettled late Summer period we have this year.
  12. Another very brief shower seems to have arrived or is just clipping here. Very threatening fast moving skies again.
  13. I know what you mean we seem to miss any extremes here in Crewe the contrast between the south and north of Cheshire is quite unbelieveable at times paticulary when it comes to storms in Summer and snow in Winter.
  14. Nice looking shower to the south of here on the Rain Today radar but due to the time delay on the radar it may have already passed here. The east of Cheshire looks like its seeing more in the way of some action.
  15. Few spots of rain now coming out of a passing storm cloud it looks quite fast moving so probably will not be here for long.
  16. Some showers on the Rain Today radar to the east of me currently with the sky now looking quite threatening and the dogs barking like crazy a storm fingers crossed is on the way!?
  17. He is a very good forecaster although at times he can be a bit OTT his forecast for last Winters Severe cold in the Eastern US and Northern Europe however was spot on. Generally someone who should be listened to he knows his stuff.
  18. Just thought I would post what NOAA think about this Autumn/Winter period these charts however dont seem to give the freezing Winter Positive Weather Soloutions and Joe B from US organisation Accu Weather are predicting but do suggest a chance of some September snow due to the forecast below average temperatures. Alot of different things by lots of different models/organisations are being thrown in the mix however for this Autumn/Winter with no real agreement between them so it will be interesting to see what will happen when it comes down to the crunch.
  19. The article link is when I last checked on the front page of the website on the left hand side news section 3rd or 4th story down and is titled I think "One last chance to see the sun" there is also an article on the simmilar sort of lines on the Daily Records website where Jon Powell also predicts that this Winter will be another cold or very cold one for many. Hope this helps if you have any further problems finding it let me know Mike.
  20. Positive Weather soloutions led by Jon Powell, to give them credit did forecast correctly a colder than average Winter last year but only recently forecast a BBQ record breaking 1976 style Summer period that was not realy for most. In my humble opinion there Winter forecasts do tend to be slightly more accurate than there other Long range forecasts but to be honest there claim that there will be significant snowfall in September does seem to be a bit on the headline grabbing side seeing as there website Autumn forecast suggests a mild and wet season very confusing! So I would take anything they say with caution they are probably just headline searching. The article however is availiable online on the Daily Express website. Hope this helps.
  21. "Temperatures during October are forecast to be a little way above normal, with the reverse happening in November with slightly cooler than average conditions thought likely."- NET WEATHER LONG RANGE FORECAST FOR AUTUMN 2010 I may be clutching at straws here but could this below average November be the start of another long cold Winter for 2010/11??
  22. Here in Crewe this July has been quite boring weather wise with the exception of some heavy downpours in the past week or so. It seems certainly here in the North West we have pulled the short straw compared to areas in the South east and Channel Islands that have had the best share of sunshine and warmth throughout July. August may bring with it some nicer late Summer weather but all the decent weather on the models just seems to be pushed back and back so I am guessing unless there is a major change in the models we will be stuck with much of the same for much of August. Is the La Nina we are approaching making its effects felt already??
  23. That would be for me the perfect Autumn into Winter, the seasons as they should be!!
  24. The Summer so far here in the North West started off well in May and June with a good run of some nice warm weeks that came with it below average rainfall and the hosepipe ban . July though has seen sadly a return to atlantic based weather with the past week being paticulary wet with some very heavy downpours. August may bring with it some nicer weather but I am not that hopeful so I would give this Summer a 5 out of 10.
  25. Monsoon like rain here as well. Met Office warnings now for North West England of heavy downpours right up till this evening. Certainly the heaviest rain I have seen in a while here in Crewe.
