  1. Think that's it for the day here really, we'll probably still get a few flakes like now but nothing worthwhile. Still far from impressed with this cool spell.
  2. Temp climbing nicely now at 1.6c. I think it will max out at around 2.5 - 3.0c.
  3. According to the radar we should be seeing heavy snow, either that's wrong or I need a trip to specsavers!
  4. A few flakes in the wind here, temp 1.3c. Where's my super heavy snow.
  5. Stopped snowing here around 5cm, temp 1.0c and dropped to 0.8c last night.
  6. Moderate snow here now giving a covering, temp still above freezing at 1.4c
  7. Personally I can't wait to see the back end of what as been an East/West split, though there are parts there too that have missed out. I've only recorded three frosts and sub zero temps, there has been little in the way of sun or snow and quite frankly it's one of the most overrated cold spells in the last forty years. Back to the models and from what I've seen the models look very similar to December, cool and unsettled, with little sign of the elusive Greenland heights and -NAO.
  8. Absolutely no chance of any worthwhile snow IMBY in the next five days, it's been a pretty poor few days no sunshine, no frost and that drip, drip, drip you get with thawing snow. We need heights to transfer over to Greenland, but not one model output shows that happening out in FI. I see the PV lobe coming out of Canada and setting up shop exactly where it did in December, cold rain and lots off.
  9. It could be right Frosty, remember how the PV lobe moved out of Canada in December. We could be looking at something similar happening now.
  10. This will be another non event IMO for many in the NW away from Southern regions and possibly parts of Cumbria later. Temp now 2.1c
  11. It was an attempted ( failed ) humorous quip at how our region generally miss out. Must do better next time.
  12. But what about those majestic peaks the pennines, you know the ones which seem impenetrable to any advancing snow from the East.
  13. I have to say as cold spells go this one has been pretty woeful, I've only recorded three nights of below zero temps. Until ( or should I say if ) we see heights transfer to Greenland and a negative NAO develop, the chances of a deep cold and snowy spell for all the NW will continue to look slim.
  14. Temp never dropped below 1.0c last night, currently 1.6c. As for todays snow threat, I won't hold my breath!
  15. Actually Steve has a point, yes granted the pattern has changed but only to what I would call bog standard winter synoptics in January for the UK. What we have seen is what we would expect too see at this time of year, with or without any SSW.
  16. Not much of a cold spell really, more like your bog standard average January.
  17. Something strange happening temp wise, at 4pm temp was 0.4c now it's 1.5c and my snow continues to thaw.
  18. I'm very much hoping we see heights transfer to Greenland, it's been a pretty poor affair for a lot of areas in the NW. Though my concern is as we saw in December when a piece of the PV moved out of Canada.
  19. I think we could be looking at a repeat performance for Monday night/Tuesday, with the South of the region taking the brunt of any snow. For tomorrow night Pennine areas should do very well, for IMBY another case of fingers crossed.
