  1. Total at end of amber warning is 7cm on grass and 1cm icy smattering on concrete/hard surfaces. Roof maybe 3cm. Hakf way up the hill behind the house at say 50m higher the dark trees are christmas-like covered in icing sugar. It's that marginal. Marvellous.
  2. Almighty crack of forked lightning in the valley, just as I was standing at the window. As the snow and graupel came down in buckets. Don't see that very often.
  3. 0.8C and it's marginal here. Nothing falling just now is adding to the couple of cms on the ground and the roads are black. Let's see if that temp drops 0.5C and six hours of amber warning make an impact.
  4. Went to Tesco in Peebles on Saturday and stocked-up big time! Local shop in Broughton selling bags of oak to burn though - always worth a visit as it's hot hot hot. Dewpoint has gone negative for the first time during this 36 hour spell. Nice.
  5. Ooooo. I appear to be in the middle of that lovely amber colour.
  6. Overnight temp got up to 1.6C and it was clearly sleeting on the velux in the early hours. Now 0.4/0.0C and snow swirling about - that's more like it. Fifth snow day.
  7. Temp got back down to 0.4/0.0°C an hour ago and snow piling up nicely. Now 0.8/0.6°C and it's almost sleety, with melt/slush on hard surfaces and the drenched wet soil back. Blowing a hoolie too. Talk about a fine line between hero and zero!
  8. Great news about Edinburgh. Friends by the Western saying it's the same there and whiteout on the bypass. Good call working from home today shuggee Some lunchtime dog walking photies:
  9. Up to 1.6/1C now - melty melt. Wind really picked up. All the bulbs in my garden are very wet.
  10. You know me too well. My measuring stick is well buffed and we will be having an extended lunchtime walk to build that snowman....
  11. 3cm here. In a shower gap just now and temp up from 0.2 to 1.0°C. Going to be a fun 48hours. Dog very excited.
  12. That's the sleet on 3.5/3°C. Bucketing down.
  13. I'm remembering that in the Jan 2018 serious snow that hit Ayrshire/Lanarkshire/Borders the Meto warnings were very dynamic with ambers appearing nailing significantly heavier periods of snow within the general showers 12-18 hours before they hit. Was impressive how locally correct these became with 500 Square km pinpoints being nailed-on seemingly like magic. Keep refreshing that wx warning page this evening!
  14. Dead right. Flooding on a par with rapid snow melt. Here's Upper Tweeddale this morn: Normally the river's mostly hidden up against the far hill. And what's surprising is the whole lot is flowing! Peebles will be interesting.
  15. Just driven Peebles-Stobo-home. I like speed. I'm that car pushing the traffic along to do the speed limit. Just now I was doing 35mph max. And luckily swerved when that fallen branch in the road reared its limb. Sheets and sheets of rain. Really quite something. Five days of food and beer purchased. Gonna need it.
  16. Twenty fourth air frost at - 1.5°C this morning. Got down to -5 on the car thermometer driving into work. Yellow excitement alert for the shuggee cottage Mon-Weds.... Same height as Abington on the M74 here so cautiously looking good.
  17. I have started to polish my measuring stick in anticipation. It sat all last winter unused. Premature?
  18. UK Meto haven't even acknowledged that Storm Brendan occurred - can't be bothered it seems: UK Storm Centre WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Find out the latest information about storms in the UK as we name them as part of our Name our Storms project. Ciara next. Google says she was born in Austin, Texas. Bet she doesn't know what a baw bag is
  19. I would put money on Met Éireann naming it before UK Meto do.
  20. Smattering of snow down to the bypass at Hillend this morning at 7.30am just as it was coming light.
  21. Aye, watching this closely. A701 closed for three days back then. Very interesting Mr Catch. Meanwhile it's bucketing with snow with these hefty showers blowing through right now. Grass and car white.....
  22. It's the temperatures! Overnight tonight is going to be 0-3C countrywide with snow above 150m. She even said 'not cold'.... The UK weather with Carol didn't make the same mistake. All very odd.
  23. Misreporting Scotland weather on BBC Breakfast with Judith at 6.30am. Spot the (quite fundamental) error?!
  24. Heaven forefend that 80mph gusts would actually mean an amber warning, and therefore trigger the storm being named by the Met Office....
  25. Snow melt, heavy rain and this: Landslide closes A83 near Rest and be Thankful - Argyllshire Advertiser WWW.ARGYLLSHIREADVERTISER.CO.UK Latest slip occurs east of landslide catch-pits Such a vital road with that huge diversion if they cannot use the military diversion.
