  1. You've made a fantastic point there. How tragic and a timely reminder that many will have heart-breaking decisions to make.
  2. No, I really meant the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the outliers track her South West, maybe not as a hurricane but as a system that could erupt again over warm water. I don't think it should be ruled out yet until the spreads become a little less chaotic.
  3. Some of the tracks could take Florance over the hot waters of the Gulf. This one could run.
  4. Pretty standard for all emergency evacuation plans in the US. I've seen in put in practice for wild fires too. I'd love to know whether the UK has any plans like that. Obviously it's less likely to be of use given the dearth of major events, but I'd like to think it's not "put the kettle on, man up and do your bit for Blighty".
  5. Quite the deluge tomorrow afternoon in eastern counties. Luckily the gales are forecast to stay the other side of the channel. Just like in 87.....
  6. That Biscay storm system looks like it could get nasty across the channel later tomorrow. Wide variance in what the models are suggesting, the track seems set but the deepening is quick on ECM leading to 80mph gusts over the Netherlands. Let's hope they do have the track right. A shift 100 miles NW from this developing system could bring gales and torrential rain to the SE fringes of our region.
  7. I assume this has been posted already but given high traffic and many questions, I'll leave it here again. http://www.convectiveweather.co.uk/forecast.php?date=2018-07-27
  8. That temperature drop could be due to cold outflow from the base of the storm. You're getting air that's been up high and falls to the ground and spreads out. The inflow is the important thing, if the storm still has a source of warm air it will continue to build. Your temperature should rise once the sun comes out, well, until the cold front has passed you.
  9. The higher temperatures tomorrow and more particularly on Friday are the result of a reload of hot air and having experienced a similar set up in Germany, I think you'll be surprised that even the gusts below the clouds will be oppressively hot. At 39oC it's like walking into a hairdryer. Max temps in East Anglia today appeared to be 31oC around Chelmsford so 35-36oC will be noticeably hotter. Friday's front seems to be downgrading on each run, pushing storms further north and suggesting that the SE corner could still see 25/26oC over the weekend. Bring it on.
  10. Wow, yes, a blob of blue heading north in our direction. Lots of Ac on this side of the Essex/Suffolk border. Hopefully that blob will erupt once the sun has got to work on it.
  11. No rain in my village for a month now the fields and parks are brown, we really need rain. That aside, I'm loving the heat. For those who struggle in it, I happily pass on the advice given to me by a local in the Caribbean. "Too Hot? You haven't slowed down enough then."
  12. Hot and sunny all afternoon here in mid-Essex and Heathrow reached 26.8oC earlier. Sorry if that doesn't fit in with your narrative.
  13. One man's "boring" is another man's "Loving every minute of the heat"
  14. I was just staring out of my window at some cirrus coming in from the East, which is pretty rare. There's some rain on the edge of the radar off Norfolk and the wind has suddenly pepped-up. I genuinely have no idea what's going on here, nothing in the forecast that I was aware of.
  15. One hellava shower here in Essex at dawn. A few flashes of lightning but the rain was so hard that I couldn't hear any thunder. All 5 of my cats got caught out in it. Some very unhappy moggies returned home shortly after it stopped.
  16. A lot of lightning to the South and East of Colchester now. Lightning.org seems to be a bit broken tonight, it showed a flash over Tendring a little earlier when there was nothing going on, now it's missing many flashes that I'm seeing.
  17. I think "The Blob" is likely to hit the Essex and Kent as thundery rain. It might intensify once on land though. Just convection conjecture though.
  18. I don't think my body could cope with all that! Back to storms, I had no idea, that's brilliant news. Another night of caffeine awaits.
  19. West? That's us then. I've been out of the loop since yesterday so I'm oblivious to what's forecast tonight and tomorrow. Working from home though, always a bonus.
  20. Looks like something has erupted in spectacular style over Amiens in Northern France. I assume we've got no dibs on that though.
  21. I'm not anticipating anything for London and the South East until later Sunday and Monday maybe. Last time I checked the sweet spots were between the M4 and M40.
  22. Both Netweather and Metox radars show a heavier area of rain heading for East Anglia so I don't think we're out of the woods.
  23. Pretty spectacular here in Wivenhoe, Essex. Lots of lightning heading north and some ripping thunder too.
