  4. what a horrible way to go. At least it isnt a pinatubu
  5. we are not far from Broadford place called breakish
  6. Hi there thought it would be interesting to list your top ten most memorable weather events. Here is mine. 1. January 2nd 1984 North of Scotland Blizzard 2. January 12th 2005 The Great Storm.... Gero 3. December 25th 1995 A white christmas. temps down as cold as they have ever been. 4.October 2006 around the 29th massive widespread flooding and storm force winds causes utter devastation in Highlands. 5. March 2006 Snow falling 20 out of 31 days! 6. August 1984 Summer sooo hot, then a massive thunderstorm. 7. Summer 1995 when I was able to swim in the sea 8 May 1992, Blizzards one day and two days later around the 11th we had unbroken sunshine and 20C 9. March 1986 A massive windstorm shut the school early...yay!!! 10. January 1987 the infamous beast from the east kept us off school for 1 week.
  7. I find it quite mellow higland park, maybe thats is why I like it, it lacks that hasrhness of Talisker. Have you tried Clyneleish from Brora, that is my local malt from where I grew up? Drambuie is very very sweet, and has spices added to it. It makes a lovely end to a meal. Expensive but loevly if you want a liquear with a little bit of glass.,
  8. I prefer Highland Park myself, Talisker is quite strong and has much heat.. May I tempt you with a glass of drambuie to warm the cockles a bit. We need it!
  9. we have now a new wind turbone... a Rutland one and new solar panels, which will be able to power some of our low energy stuff. I need to find out what grants are available to plant sustainable woodland on the croft so that we can grow and coppice our own firewood. lol SS... I have four children, two from a previous relationship and new born twins from this one. I think it is more the imbalance of population growth that is the problem... here in the west we need the life expectancy to decrease, our birth rate has actually fallen (or is just steady), but our death rate has fallen at a greater rate. This issnt the case in developing countries of course, where death and birth rate are high. Though death rate is falling hence the increase in population. I think much of the problem is the uneven distribution of resources, its a bit like money! Redistribute resources evenly and the problem wont be as much of a problem. However continue supply and demand and apply market forces and other finanical mechanisms, then it does become a problem.
  10. Funny you should think that today Nimbus, I was watching on TV the Tsumani in Indonesia and the caise of it an Earthquake. Then realised tha the earthquake is now possibly linked to a volcanic erupstion on an active volcano. The effects of volcanic eruptions on glabal climate tend to be short term, but as you say lag effects of the solar minumum and large scale changes in oceanic circulation are all bound to have an effect, whatever that effect may be! Scottish Skier, fantastic few posts there. I studied Quaternary environmental change at Uni as well and struggle to buy global warming. Too well educated! But again that was some 16 years ago since I graduated from Stirling Uni.
  11. Spare room...lol we just built a new 3 bedroomed house for the four of us and then we decide that we should have twin boy and girl.... I have the byre? lol Good place for a holiday! Come in May or september when midges arent so bad. It is an amazing place, and most of it is because of the geology.
  12. Maybe we should count the Artic Polar, Polar Maritime and Polar Continental wintry out breaks now.
  13. Good question though I sussed this out for myself. Stop being so pedantic Im still waiting! No plagerising the METO forecast now. IF thank you for putting together such a nice, no full of technical nonsense weather forecast. It was consise and had a methodology to it that actually made sense. You seperated the UK into regions instead of date zones which to me means Im not having to drag myself around reasing all about SE England. You used the CFS forecast and the Greenie High, which again Im sure will be the single most important meteorlogical factor this coming winter. And Yes Im delighted first class effort! Look forward to January.
  14. Cooling of SST's mid atlantic will create conditions condusive to allowing High pressure to buld over Greenland and we all though what a Greenie High means!
  15. Nice one IS, we know if its cold when the sea on the west coast starts to cool down and freeze.
  16. My idea of heaven Northerlies are the only direction that brings us snow and the last time we had a true Nly like that was Feb/ March 2006
  17. Definitely cooler and snower over Siberia this year. Less coolinga nd snow over Scandanvia.... hmmmm interesting Many thanks for doing that! I wonder if we will beat the snow cover from last year?
  18. Guys have you not sussed this one out yet? There are only so many weather statiosn recording the weather by the meto... take the Skye Lusa site, if youplum for Portree and its dry buy Cullins get rain you win, supposedly... however they cut and shut sqaures. Its the biggests marketing con going. The tattie harvet was rubbish this year doe to a very wet summer and that crisps are poor quality... they are alot more expensive than the mutlipacks and yes they will make you fat, so fat your not going to be able to get out your seats to cash the cheque! The good news is that its been not a bad october here because of it.. thanks guys! PS you wont have any luck here today either as although its raining its less than 3mm
  19. Just out of curiosity is anyone still wagering that it will be a mild winter?
