  1. Keep GMT, imagining it being pitch black at 09:30 in mid-December! No thanks!
  2. Anyway, I love the feeling of dark nights in the November-December area, makes everything Festive, but apart from that, the night-time can do one. To be honest, I like the sun to be rising as I wake up, as I'd rather have dark evenings than mornings. GMT is excellent, nice light mornings with the sun rising for another month (November), so I think I'll like this month, and the sun sets nice and early, so as I get back from work (5pm) it'll be Pitch Black, so I think I'll like the next few months. After December, the sun can come back please! P.S. Yes, I babble.
  3. Not strictly newspaper; but most certainly the most hilarious thing I've saw this year, EVEN better than that 2012 Real or Fiction, b******** and the ever-so-amazing Daily Wail. December - Wintry Weather January - Wintry Weather February - Wintry Weather Ooo... they certainly, use their words well, don't they! But c'mon, Wintry Weather in... w.w.w.WINTER! End of the bloody world
  4. Of course you're welcome here! However, what's with the ?
  5. I agree with EVERYTHING in this statement. Hope your baby boy has an amazing christmas regardless of the weather, but of course snow would be a nice supplement.
  6. Curse you. Moving the average up 0.03C to 6.69C, despicable. LOL. Made a mistake, swapped above and below around!
  7. Nice snow depths there! Over 100cm in parts of the Rockies as well, good build-up throughout!
  8. So, after 41 Votes: In comparison to the 1971-00 average: Above Average Month: 46.3% Average Month: 2.4% Below Average Month: 51.2% (Yes, that adds up to 99.9%, but there is an extra 0.1% in all of it!) So, a weirdly below average November is expected so far, despite the mildness of previous ones and the current Atlantic regime! The average from the 41 votes is: 6.66C, 0.24C below the 1971-00 average, but 0.16C above the 61-90 average, and with many more votes to go, it could change alot. Though the consensus is very much slightly below average.
  9. 80% chance in December, Ice Caps are increasing, JET stream is moving south, Northern Blocking more evident? I must say that is very optimistic, and you may want to re-assess -6C minima in 'The North', wherever that is! Love to see it happen though!
  10. It seems most think that an Atlantic first-half is likely, with milder than average temperatures, I'd think that the guesses are based on how cold the second half is, and if people think the systems will take a turn for the cold.
  11. Haha! Same here, though every thing GP says, I try and find out what it means, until I give up.
  12. Only noting stuff since 2005, I can't go into detail for the rest, also, only 5. 1. July 2006: Spell of temperature passing 30C, amazing month, remember the clear skies and brilliant weather, was playing tennis and football for weeks on end. 2. December 17-18 2009: Most snowfall I'd seen since I could remember, really amazing, I remember going to work on the last Friday before my Christmas Break, and the trip home was like racing on a F1 track! 3. July 5 2009: The heaviest rains I'd ever experienced in the UK! Played football for the work team, and my shorts had shrunk to half the size, like 80's shorts! Never saw such weather, and the Wimbledon final took place on that day! 4. May 22 2010: Temperature hit 28C at the local park, the best picnic ever! Absolutely amazing stuff, had a waterbomb fight with the mates, then went into my garden pool to relax, best Summer day I remember. 5. February 1-2 2009: Heavy snowfall, up to 15cm in just an hour! Snow day from work, and they hard to get up ere'! Very much 2009/2010 loaded, but to be honest, the 07 and 08 had washout summers, and mild winters, so not many events. EDIT: December 1 2009 graupel storm came very close. With layers of graupel throughout here!
  13. Here on the outskirts of Durham, the running mean is 9.8C, with the usual downward adjustment of 0.5C at the official Observatory at Durham Uni, which give the MO official figures. I'm expecting the end total to be about 10.1C here and 9.6C at the Observatory, which would mean an above average month in comparison to 71-00, but below average to 61-90. I imagine the October CET will be very much similar when comparing it and showing it's anomalies.
  14. Towards the whole 'Save The Planet' and 'Make us Greener', I do my bit. Not because I believe in global warming, as I think it's another phase, like the M. Warm Period and the Ice Age and Little Ice Age, I would just like the world to be a bit cooler! I buy energy-saving light bulbs and solar panels, and I always make sure everything is off when not needed, so I'm happy with my current contribution.
  15. They have that on all their articles, very weird and amateur-like, can't figure out why.
  16. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f6/Ice_Storm_Chart_words_small.png This helps aswell.
  17. http://www.positiveweathersolutions.co.uk/UK-Month-Ahead-Forecast.php Fairly reasonable this time, probably because it's only a few days to go, I'm sure if this was September 27th, the November Forecast would be freezing and blizzards!
  18. Regarding La Nina, it gives cold to the West Pacific, but does it give cold to Western Europe, I remember seeing some anomaly maps showing that in a La Nina winter, there were significantly higher temperatures here in Western Europe. The Earth is warming. Not cooling. As much as I'd like it to cool, it isn't happening. Shrinking of the Earth's upper Atmosphere? Haven't heard about that yet, may need to look it up. So, only 3 & 6 seem valid for me. 3 = Nature, showing that Siberia is currently colder, not the UK. 6 = I'm unsure, about this, but wouldn't it take quite a while before we would see the affects of this? I think that this would probably be more suitable for the Winter 2010/11 thread, not this one.
  19. Extremely autumnal here now, not passed 20C for around 50 days, and had our first air frost yesterday morning here in Durham. Most trees are Red, or yellowy-orange, and even the ones that don't turn till' December, have done so already. Must say, this Autumn has been more marked then others...

  21. I agree with Backtrack. Excellent explanation!
