  4. Just came across this, what do you's think? Actually made it quite easy to understand!
  5. I'm certainly not happy. Despite the GFS giving me a low of 5c on the 06z, it's turned to 7c on 12z. Currently 9.8c with 74% humidity. Not as cold as last night though... I'll never get a summer ground frost (June 21 - September 23)
  6. Righto. So, you'll probably get 2c again? I heard that at 1013mb, the temperature drops 0.65c every 100m. So on average, your temperatures should be roughly 2c below mine...
  7. Not from someone who kills dolls  So, Tucco, where dy'a think i'll get down to tonight?
  8. 4.6C with no ground frost here Tonight and tomorrow morning look better though!
  9. Morning - Cold north easterly blowing, clear skies with some clouds arriving. Around -2c to 1c Afternoon - Cloud cover intensifies. Rain, then sleet, then snow! Around 0c to 4c Night - During the evening the snow rapidly speeds up, and it begins to get some depth... wake up in the morning with a winter wonderland, snow up to 20cm on the ground and everywhere you look, trees, cars, house windows, whatever... Around -5c to -2c Also, this would happen on Christmas Eve and we I would wake up on Christmas Day. Thanks.
  10. 8.4c with 77% now... here's hoping!
  11. 9.2c with 73% humidity currently. Does anyone think we'll get a ground frost tonight. 4c should be enough.
  12. ICEHOTEL, Northern Sweden Is this snow or rain (the patches on the ground, massive puddles). It's in Jukkasjarvi, just east of Kiruna, in the arctic circle.
  13. 9.2c with 67% humidity. Feels Frrrrezing! What's everyone reading? To get 9.2c here at just 50m ASL and close proximity to the coast is impressive! Ground Frost in Teesdale, Weardale, Tynedale and some of the north pennines?
  14. Met Monkey are going to the cold side now, they really think this gulf stream thing means much colder winters, some saying we'll get the winters of places like Central Sweden and Western Russia, also, it seems they're going for the first blast to occur in mid November, like weatheronline!
  15. November - Westerlies turn to fierce Northerlies early on, with the weather worst best in the north and eastern parts, many parts as far down as Birmingham will get their first snowfall since the solstice. During mid-month, the Scottish Highlands take a sharp dip, going from average night time temperatures of -1c to around -6c, along with western parts seeing slightly lower temperatures than usually, with the South West being the warmest. As the cool weather fades, an occluded front moves in, and puts temperatures near average, across the country. Towards the end of the month, a cold Arctic front moves in from Siberia, and temperatures in the Shetlands dip, as severe snowfall hit's the top of the nation. The Southern parts remain average, with snowfall still rare in the mountain ranges and Wales. Northern Ireland and Northern England should see a slight drop in temperatures, with sleet mostly falling in the North West and wintry showers elsewhere. Scotland: Temperature - Below Average Precipitation - Slightly Below Average England: Temperature - Average Precipitation - Slightly Above Average Wales: Temperature - Slightly Above Average Precipitation - Slightly Above Average Northern Ireland: Temperature - Average Precipitation - Above Average December - The cold front moves fiercely in during the early days, and Scotland is left ravaged, with up to 25inches in even the lowland areas during the first week, as the snowband moves south, it gains momentum with strong winds with occasional thundersnow in the South East. Temperatures don't get above freezing in most Northern areas, even during the daytime. Northern Ireland then experience's it's first snowfall with up to 10inches in 1day in some places. As the snowband steadily moves South East-wards, the temperatures rise slightly in the north, thawing and melting small amounts of snow in cities like Birmingham, Hull and Liverpool. As the snowband leaves the nation, the effects will be shown. Temperatures don't max above 2c in the North and 4c in the South. With the Highlands getting constant snow throughout the month, Aberdeen and Inverness get many top up's between the 10th and 15th. More top up's from cold front's give snowfall in areas above 100m in Scotland, 150m in Northern England, Wales and the Midlands, 200m in Southern areas and Northern Ireland, with sleet and wintry showers expected on lower ground. Expect consistent top-up's of around 4-15cm of snow each day, until a warm band comes in during the 27-28th of the month, with temperatures rising around 5c during the day, and above average temperatures expected for the rest of December. Scotland: Temperature - Below Average Precipitation - Above Average England: Temperature - Below Average Precipitation - Above Average Wales: Temperature - Below Average Precipitation - Slightly Above Average Northern Ireland: Temperature - Below Average Precipitation - Slightly Above Average January/February/March - Unfortunately, there shouldn't be anything else, cold and occluded fronts along with bands of rain from the atlantic will give strong winds and heavy rain, with snow and sleet expected over higher ground. A sunny spell where temperatures max on around 8c in Scotland, 9c in the North and Northern Ireland and 10c everywhere else will occur in late January, early February. Expect heavy rain and strong winds for the majority of February, with sunshine breaking through, but in March, a warm, dull month awaits. January - Cold throughout, with strong windchill. Lack of snow apart from high ground (250m+). Warmer areas in Western regions. February - Early warm temperatures dip as strong wind and rain ravage nation. South East will be warmest, expect storms in Scottish areas and North West England, flash floods possible in Cumbria. March - After early rain, month turns dry, temperatures go above average with sun and cloud dominating, expect high humidity before summer weather kicks in during the end of the month. South East could get up to 18c! Wild guess. 0.00001% chance of happening.
  16. Soon, the glaciers of North Norway and the mountain ranges of Eastern Europe should get snow. When will the Highlands snow show up... possibly early October?
  17. Another dusting of fresh snow in Austria above about 2200m goes to show winter isn't far away. Glacier conditions are ever improving with the fresh snow but while it's falling the visibility is poor. AUSTRIA Winter continues to prove that it's only just round the corner, as it's snowing again up high. Both Hintertux (95cm) and the Molltal Glacier (130cm) received around 5cm of fresh snow on the night of Wednesday 8th September and it continued to snow on Thursday 9th. The visibility at both resorts was limited because of the bad weather but the fresh snow was enough to put a smile on the face of skiers and boarders.Snow fell down to around 2000m at other locations in Austria, including Obergurgl. This is usually the first Austrian resort without a glacier to open for the winter. This weekend should be warm and sunny across the whole of Austria but then there's further cold and snowy weather on its way for next week, especially up high. FRANCE The summer ski season is now over at Tignes, Val d'Isere and Les Deux Alpes. Maintenance work will take place between now and when they open for the winter 2010/11 season. SWITZERLAND Saas Fee (109cm) received 5cm of fresh snow on Wednesday 8th September, providing a refreshing boost to the ski area. There are four pistes open on the glacier at the moment along with various features in the snowpark, including the halfpipe Zermatt (168cm) was unfortunately closed for snowsports on Thursday 9th September. The weather was quite changeable but it is forecast to be brighter from Friday 10th through to Sunday 12th September in Switzerland so it should be a great weekend. ITALY Val Senales (100cm) is in great shape following fresh snowfall this week. The new snow has freshened up the on-piste snow cover, improving the riding conditions for visitors this week and over the weekend. Further snowfall could land on Friday 10th September then sunny skies are forecast for Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September Cervinia is now closed for the summer season. The lifts are scheduled to reopen for the winter season on 30th October. NORTH AMERICA The Blackcomb Glacier at Whistler has now closed for the summer ski season. They will reopen again in November for the start of the winter season Timberline in Oregon, America is now closed for the summer ski season. The resort plans to open for their autumn skiing season on 1st October, but this is dependent on the snow conditions. AUSTRALIA Australia's snowiest season in 25 years continues to provide some great skiing into their spring months. Recent weather has been quite mild and has unfortunately brought some rain with it but a decent base at most places means this is no big issue. All 15 lifts are running this week at Falls Creek (113/120cm). The lower slopes get quite slushy in the afternoon and the recent rain hasn't helped but up high there is plenty of good snow. Most of Mount Buller's (76/130cm) lifts are running as well. Like Falls Creek, the snow on the lower slopes is a little slushy but head higher and it's a bit better. The park is also fully open with lots of features, big and small.A nice and sunny weekend is expected before some light snow moves in on Monday 13th September. It's expected to bring around 6cm of fresh snow to the mountains. NEW ZEALAND Spring riding conditions now dominate across the New Zealand resorts despite fresh snowfall at some locations this week. The spring conditions mean that the snow is firmly packed first thing in the morning but it then softens as the day warms up, providing more forgiving conditions in the afternoon Mount Dobson (300cm), Mount Olympus (120cm), Mt Lyford (280cm), Rainbow (67cm), Treble Cone (144cm), Turoa (171cm) and Whakapapa (130cm) have all received a light dusting of snow this week Cardrona (105cm) has been closed for most of this week and will remain closed on Friday 10th September while they finish the maintenance work being carried out on the oxidation pond.My Lyford and Rainbow were unfortunately closed for snowsports on Thursday 9th September due to snowy weather reducing the visibility.Changeable weather is forecast over the weekend in New Zealand, with a chance of light snowfall at times. The second half of next week is then forecast to be mostly snowy. The heaviest snowfall is expected at Mount Olympus and Treble Cone, where 76cm of new snow is forecast to land by Friday 17th September. CHILE The only Chilean resorts to report any fresh snow in the last week are La Parva (145cm), El Colorado (50/70cm) and Valle Nevado (40cm), which make up the Three Valleys ski area. Here up to 20cm of new snow fell on Saturday 4th September. Despite this new snow spring riding conditions now dominate and this is the same story for all of our featured Chilean resorts, especially given the sunny weather this week. The weather is expected to change this week though. Cloudy weather and a drop in temperature is forecast on Friday 10th September and fresh snow could fall. Sunny weather could then return for a period on Saturday 11th to be followed by more clouds on Sunday 13th September. ARGENTINA There hasn't been any fresh snow in Argentina since 30th August but the existing snow conditions are generally good. Cerro Catedral (60/320cm) has the deepest snow base and subsequently has the best skiing. There is plenty of snow on the upper slopes so on and off-piste skiing should remain good for the rest of the season. Approximately half of their lifts have been open this week. The weekend ahead is looking like being warm and sunny at all our Argentinean resorts. After the weekend there is some snow forecast, especially to Cerro Catedral. Here they are expecting 24cm of fresh snow next week. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry about the hyperlinks, added from snow-forecast.com, this is their snow report. Good to see the Alps getting fresh dustings!
