  1. Surely the 850-1000 thicknesses are more important to explain the very cold 850s (-9c) and sleet and snow at the surface at 1c. The 500hpa thicknesses do provide a good measure of cold upper air though. NCL TAF going for snow shrs tonight.
  2. 6" inches in parts of Newcastle- highly possible the Alnwick/Cheviots has area has around 1ft. Any snow depths up here that you might want to share with us Englanders?
  3. The 850-1000dm lines are staying between 1280 and 1285 all day. Light sleety wet snow flakes and heavy snow grains. Still 12cm here.
  4. Very heavy snow again, 2 hrs of mod-heavy snow, added at least 5cms. Total depth around 10-11cms.
  5. The shrs in the North Sea tmrw will mainly be further north it seems, with E Scotland and SE Scotland in the firing line, though the EC convection could be wrong, we want to see shower activity start moving in the southern North Sea overnight. Mod to heavy here again, 8-9cm I think.
  6. MetO 5 Dayers going for sleet and snow for most of us and no mention of rain on the regional fcst.
  7. Great to see snow and lots of it north of the border, 8cms here and I'm sure the east coast is in for a fun day tomorrow! Especially E and SE Scotland- enjoy!
  8. Indeed, that convective E'ly should dig in tomorrow morning with heavy snow shrs for much of the region (esp Northumberland), sorry nick!!!). Sunday also carries the chance of some convection before a band of snow moves in from the S, and if the EC came off, over a ft in many places and deep frosts by next Friday!
  9. Freezing Point had at least 4 inches just a few hours ago!! Paul Michael showed quite a bit in Wallsend.
  10. Just went out in the mod snow, 7cm and rising, 4cm today. Nearly 3 inches, most snow lying in 754 days!!!
  11. Heavy snow for 30 mins now, added 1.5cm on top of 5cm, makes dinner in front of emmerdale and corrie bareable!
  12. No arguing, we're happy northerners, remember? Moderate snow here, a lot of small flakes drifting about in the air.
  13. Gateshead and Washington to get hit now, also perhaps Prudhoe/Ryton way. Durham after that and Hartlepool with it.
