We all know how things can change at the flip of a hat, just look at last March and December 09/10.
All to play for, with 3 weeks left of Autumn still to go yet.

Yes Frosty, A very traditional outlook from the chart's with plenty of PM air encroaching the UK at times giving sleet and snow over the hills from the Pennines North. We had our first sleet here yesterday.
And all but the South retaining just below average temps, only a few weeks left now until winter proper takes hold.

Today marks a space weather anniversary. The strongest detected solar flare in recorded history was observed ten years ago. The X28+ mega flare took place around historical sunspot 486. Because the sunspot was facing away from Earth, the impact on our planet was minimal. Attached is a short video that was put together two years ago detailing the explosion. Credit- Solarham.

Average or just below is a good sign.

Thanks pm, as for the ecm 00z, I think it's much better than seeing long draw sw'ly mush and I hope the mods deal with individuals who openly dissrespect other posters who are doing their best. : - )
Yes Frosty, some posters need to read Phil's opening post to this thread and take note... Keep up the good work regarding your analysis on every model run and what they are showing

A wintery start at Glencoe summit this morning
Yesterday it was snowing down to the rescue shed
Yes Gav, and with blizzards forecast later this evening we should see some nice conditions up there come tomorrow.

Frosty why can't we just be honest with what the charts are pointing to? It is not a very promising note for coldies. The facts are we are facing at least 10 days of zonal express . Rather than looking at something that will change on the next run at the very end of fi lets look at what we know. We have a strong vortex , high pressure to the south, low pressure to the north , a strong jet stream, and strong solar activity , things can and do change of course , but for now, it's nothing other than autumnal weather , ie , blustery and unsettled
Frosty only post's what the charts are showing at any given time. That has always been the case.

Im with TM on this, living at over a 1000ft above sea level and only 5 mls from Buxton i pretty much get the same conditions. Temps are probably cooler here and better snow depths as more rural than Buxton town and not as sheltered.

gales suck! cannot see any excitement at all, at just trees blowing, leaves and litter blowing around, bring on the winter cold, and if not let's have it settled
My... You have certainly made "Severe Gales" sound depressing there
No litter round here anyway thank god.
Let's get Autumn out the way first, one step at a time !

Hopefully the Peak District will see some severe gales later...
Winds will strengthen significantly through the day, reaching gale-force from mid-afternoon. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/mountain-forecasts/peak-district#?tab=mountainWarnings
