Problem is will the delivery drive be able to get to you in the “snow “ my hubby drives for a “posh” firm and the drivers have all been told that many roads ( small lanes ) will not be accessible... so customers won’t get thier shopping

Mine is a tcso he has to drive up to kings lynn onto to Great Yarmouth checking on all traffic management making sure diversions and sign are correct..  more is involved but would take an age to write lol.  Problem is if it snows all works will be called off.

luckily i have plenty of toilet roll. also some stuff for stews in freezer. also some long life milk, looking forward to steaming hot porridge while it snows, with oxo broth and hot chocolate although not all at the same time.maybe some hot milk, haven't had plain hot milk for ages. hot ribena as well.

Yuk hate milk, I eat my cereals dry. I do have those satchels of porridge, one box is pecan the other is blueberry , and the box that none of my kids will eat which is mine is the coconut porridge. You can bet if the house ran out of food except the items containing coconut my kids would starve lol

Luckily i always keep a few canned goods in stock so even if by some chance everything is gone in the supermarket on friday, i'll get by for a few days and bird can have tinned fish and cat food, even though its not his favourite.

I don’t mind running out of tinned and cupboard as the deep freezer is nicely stocked. I think my lot would be complying about who used all the toilet roll, I’m sure they eat it with the rate they go through it ?

Recent model tweet after ECM ensembles from Fergie and still rather cautious (there's a surprise) - on outcome of cold and snow totals as he says the model 'over plays' snow amounts and says a number of members have turned to a northerly from the 1st March - make of that what you will.

Europe are not even following there own model, they are waiting for a back track from the ecm

The crickets are for the leopard gecko , the hoppers are for his Mexican red knee. Tarantula. I spray it’s tank but that’s as far as I go lol. All my girls are frightened of it haha.  It’s a good way to evacuate the room and have some peace and quite ?

Exactly. The homeless are not a money spinner, that’s the problem. All the nasty right wing press of recent years has done a great job trying to kill off the once generous and kind British nature, I hope there are still lots of decent souls out there. If this cold spell materialises, it’ll be very dangerous for those sleeping rough.

Yes the nhs is underfunded. And money is really needed. I’m under going cancer treatment. But I count myself lucky that I have a roof over my head and food whenever I feel hungry and the amenities to make a nice hot drink.  I think in so many years to come the nhs will no longer be an option with regards as free unless more funding goes into it. I was bought up to always consider others  that are worse off and it how I have taught my own children. I buy the big issue as it goes to the homeless every little bit helps here and there. I donate on a monthly dad to great ormand street for Children And magpas air ambulance.

We could house them all. Half of central London is empty apartments. And we get loads back from being part of the EU!

There are a load of empty building around my area and also an old hospital 20 miles up the road.  Rather then sit there loooking an eye sore with graffiti it makes sense to change it into something that will be if a lot of people.

Why you say that, we have 5,000 voids in London but we can't home the homeless...if your serious about this campaign your local Member, I do.

I understand we can not house them all. But how many building do you see empty ?  With all the money our government send to Europe some of that could be used to create homeless shelters.

Couldn’t agree more ! Our churches took a lot of homeless in 2010 when it got very cold , me and hubby took down some blankets and soup to the local church ... we ( most ) all love snow but it can cause huge devastation to some and we forget that

Europe have got some very cold temp but hopefully they have a better homeless system in place then what we have.

Can and will change ... no way are we going to get this dumping of snow .. not going to happen but it is fun watching the guys in the mod thread say about it ... nope I don’t have facts it won’t happen but I have spoken to a few ppl Who do  ;)

Yes it’s fun to watch and charts churning out that is a collies dream. If we could bank it we would. Snow is always hard to pin point even down to the last 6 hrs. I have seen that happen before.  The problem is some people take it way to seriously and don’t like it when the mention of what can go wrong become very defensive..

IF and I mean a big IF this came off as the models are suggesting today then my concern is for our many homeless people.

I'm not really sure how you managed to conclude that from the forecast you posted.

The 'dry' part applies to the first few days of the forecast period - ie Friday to Sunday, as is currently expected anyway.

They then mention the risk of snow start to increase, especially for the South and East, into the following week - ie the week commencing 26th February - as is also currently being modelled.

So for this region, a pretty extraordinary update really and I'm not sure we could really expect more than that at this stage.

I’m on about the depth of cold. Not the amount of snow

  13. I agree we have been here many times for it to get to reliable time frame and it goes pear shaped.  Yes different sort of set up but with still the same problems that can scupper it.   The met offiice update was for the very cold air to be over us by the 1st of March now their update says the 4th

So while the gfs model brings it in early the ikon / ukmo/ecm all have it taking longer  normal a shortwave in the wrong place will push the cold back and that is shown on the gfs and ecm .  I personally don’t see us getting the deep cold like the charts are churning out at the moment , anything can happen within 2 weeks which will bring us to the 4th of March

There are a lot of excited peeps saying it’s nailed on !   It’s not as it can still change within 48hrs.

  14. Headline:

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Friday 23 Feb 2018 to Sunday 4 Mar 2018:

Dry with sunny spells as we head into next weekend with overnight frosts, along with patchy mist and freezing fog. However, outbreaks of rain or drizzle along with some hill snow and stronger winds are possible at times across northwestern areas. Temperatures will turn colder for most with wind from the east or northeast, possibly brisk in SE England. The cold weather will be mainly dry initially with a chance of snow flurries in the east and southeast. Heading into the following week, there is an increased chance of snow for many, especially in the south and east. Although the location and timing of any snowfall remains uncertain. However, some milder unsettled weather may still occur at times, especially in the west.

UK Outlook for Monday 5 Mar 2018 to Monday 19 Mar 2018:

At the start of this period it is likely to stay cold for most with widespread overnight frost. There will be a greater chance than usual of mainly easterly winds originating from continental Europe, which could bring very cold weather at times and the potential for some snowfall, especially in eastern and southern parts. Unusually, it will probably be driest in the northwest. As we head further into mid March there are indications that it may become more changeable and less cold, with the wettest weather and mildest temperatures likely to be in the south or the southwest of the UK, but this is currently very uncertain.

    Are you a horse?

Sleety look at the 12z also ecm you will see the short wave.s this will push back the cold air and delay it.  We have already had it pushed back and these short waves will push it back again. It was for this reason that the cold air needed to already be in place because the more it’s pushed back the more that can go wrong  ( shortwave in wrong place ).  So we need a miracle  to get the easterly to our door and deliver the goods rather then Europe basking in the glory like they do nearly your every year.

Wish I could be optimistic but I have seen it go the way of the pear many times and  always because of a bloody pesky shortwave.

Wouldn't be surprised to see ECM be quicker tomorrow bringing the real cold in as the sudden deepening of lows to our NW does look at bit odd and overdone. The only danger now that I can see is that the sheer depth of cold causes a 'shortwave' to form and cuts off the flow. I think that's odds against but its still a risk (did say this earlier this evening before it got deleted without explanation).

Amazing charts this evening though and the building blocks are in place early which has to be encouraging. Don't think we will be ignoring ICON in the future either!!

The short wave is on the 12z it has featured in the last two gfs runs. Also on the ecm.  Nick did allude to this happening with the depth of cold so that we could all keep track when the models came out.  I would love like every one else for an epic end to winter but we have been here so many times with the models getting into the reliable for it all to go belly up due to a shortwave. I can see this going the same way and watching Europe get the mother load of snow and we are left with dregs.  I would love more then anything to be wrong but these pesky short waves are not going to disappear or evaporate ?

  17. It is always these short waves that scupper the easterly as it gets into the reliable time frame  and  Europe end up in the freezer with plenty of snow while the British isles gets the dregs. So to me this will go the same way  met o model good out to 3 days ecm out to 5 days  that’s how the met o rate these two models.

‘So as ecm is showing short waves between Denmark and Norway this coming week Garden path comes to mind. And another huge let down of something that could have been epic. It seems no matter how much we have in our favour there’s always something to come along and jaffa cakes on our chips.
