    It is strange isn't it. I expect most of them to be called off tomorrow morning, there's no way you can play in these conditions. All Belgian and Dutch top flight games have already been postponed.

    I think they're hinting at the possibility of a Sting Jet. We'll see. They're hard to forecast and no indication of one yet but if it does happen, expect a red Met Office warning pretty damn quick.

    Has London/Home counties ever had an amber warning for wind? I'm struggling to think of a time it has happened before.

    Yes, great pictures, but was it really a warm front? It was moving south and replaced by crystal clear skies. Cold front if anything or a stalled warm front?

    That was one hell of a storm in Central London! Part of our offices have been evacuated due to flooding.

    Hope you're right but to me Hirlam looks to stall the front a bit too far south for us. GFS 12z showing a greater northward progression but ppn fizzles out very quickly so we'd be lucky to see a couple of cm.

    WOAH, was not expecting this. We're not far off 10cm here in Barnet. None of the roads have been gritted, traffic is gridlocked and many cars and buses have been abandoned. Without doubt the biggest flakes I've ever seen. Love it when the weather surprises you.

    Any idea on it's expected intensity over Osaka? My partner is on holiday there. Any links for tracking this thing e.g. sat/doppler would be greatly appreciated.

    We had 2mm on the 30th of May and nothing since. Was hoping for a bit from this evening's cold front but it's fizzling out over the Midlands.

    I'm a couple of miles south of them watching from my balcony. The speed at which it's growing is spectacular to watch. The updrafts must be very strong. The anvil is extending south and what looks like a healthy inflow belt to its SSE or it's just backbuilding.

    Just had those cells explode over my head in North London. Insane amounts of rain. We've had 14mm in less than 10 minutes! Can hear several alarms going off from nearby buildings.

    Right on the border of that amber. Stuck at Heathrow airport waiting for a delayed flight out of here. The longer it takes the more likely the snow will affect things.

    Arg. Was hoping to fly out from Heathrow tomorrow evening. Worth noting Hirlam is still at odds with the 18z GFS where the ppn band is a lot weaker. Will be interesting to see which one wins out. Holiday or Snowmageddon. I'll be happy with either.

    This thing has grown from nothing over the last few hours. Almost half a meter in length. Think I might need to call out the gutterers.

    Winds have really picked up in the last 10 minutes. Blowing up big clouds of powder into the air. -3.6C at midday is incredible!

    Amen brother. Looking at these charts last week most of us would have been amazed if we weren't under 5cm by now at the very least. Still, I've enjoyed the extremely rare phenomenon of wearing full winter clothing on the Tube and still feeling cold. And our Indian folks in the office were staring in awe at the flurrys we had on Monday. For some of them it was their first sight of snow.

    The line of that box has roughly followed the direction of the winds over the last few days so maybe not surprisinng that we haven't seen much. To our north and south are the Wash and Thames Estuary which help converge winds and create a constant flow of showers. In the middle is the fat, hump of East Anglia and anyone unfortunate enough to be downwind of this misses out on the convergence. Any showers over the hump have to travel miles and miles over freezing ground so die out before making it too far south.

    That's why they split the thread yesterday. Keep all of us moaners away from the excitement. Gutting to see such incredible charts this week but probably only a couple of centimetres snow. We still have nothing. Could wake up to a slight covering from any rogue showers from the convergence zone tonight, then a bit more tomorrow afternoon as the line moves west but that's about it as convective snow for North London/South Herts I think. Bring on Spring.
