  1. Hmmmm, hope not but possibly early signs that the GFS had it right with less energy further south?
  2. I agree. Seeing who comes out on top at such a short range will be more interesting than the snow itself in this case.
  3. 13cms here on the garden wall. This despite having barely been under any green ppn for this whole cold spell! We've never been in the thick of any of these snow events either too far N, S E or W but have been on the edge of almost all of them so have benefited nicely.
  4. So tantalisingly close to the heavier stuff. Chigwell looks to be right in the bullseye for the last hour.
  5. Just a mile away from the snow on the radar now. It's slowly getting closer my fellow north westerners. Glad to see Essex are finally getting something from this cold spell.
  6. Sorry if I've missed it guys but what sort of depths are we looking at in our region for tomorrow's event? I'm not being negative but GFS ppn intensities don't look that great by the time it has reached us.
  7. Just had a look at the NMM 12z. It has the band tracking SW reaching as far west as High Wycombe/Reading by 1am and continues all the way to the south coast, fizzling out as it does.
  8. Hadn't considered that. It would explain how they've kept their energy over 200miles of cold land.
  9. Sounds like parts of Essex (Southend) are now within the closed circulation of the LP and so are getting the lower temps and Dewps from the east. The rest of the SE is stuck in this wretched NWerly flow. And to think a few hours ago we were all getting excited about the streamer through the Cheshire Gap now can't wait to get rid of it lol.
  10. Just back from a walk around High Barnet and Hadley Common. Measured 5cm on the tops of cars! Most other places around 3.5-4cm and very slushy stuff. Untreated roads are a slippery mess. Since the sun has gone down, temperature has risen and DP's risen to 0.6C! hmmmm Not great for our chances later.
  11. Cloud breaking here just as the sun is going down is giving a purpleish hue to everything. Very nice. Not to be greedy or anything but it would be great if the wrap around feature reaches N.London/Herts later tonight to add a few more cms. By a lot of accounts though it sounds as if it will slide by to our east. Temp 0.7 c DP 0.2
  12. Good to see things beginning to turn for the region. Here it's doing the opposite.Temps and DPs have begun falling but snow is turning to rain with a few flakes. How does that work???
  13. The shape of the UHI can morph dependent upon wind speed and direction i.e. those downwind of the UHI's core will typically get higher temps than those upwind. Did an MSc dissertation on it last year.
  14. Very near by in New Barnet. The garden has gone from looking lightly dusted and a bit slushy to being completely covered in snow. A good 3-4cm in most places now. The higher ground around here is probably doing even better.
  15. Yes but mainly grass, trees, sheds etc are getting caked. I'm guessing you're in High Barnet? Nearly as good here in New Barnet. Shows what different an extra 40m asl can do for you.
  16. Just measured 3cm on garden wall. Hammering it down with large flakes.
  17. I can't believe how big these snow flakes are! Golf ball size and sticking to everything. Never seen anything like it and shows how marginal things are at the moment. Temp 0.8 DP 0.1. Had half an hour of sleety stuff before turning back to these humungous flakes.
  18. Fair point but it wouldn't take a massive shift for Friday's stalling front to move further east over our region though so worth keeping an eye on.
  19. 3cms in places here. Snow has definitely turned more sleety in the last 15 minutes and dew point sitting at 0.0C. Can't see any way back now, the mild sector looks too big. All eyes to Friday/Saturday which is looking interesting.
  20. Cheers Jethro, interesting stuff. The neighbours are responsible for it and had some guys come and chop it in half one day with chainsaws. Thinking about it now, maybe there was method to their madness so as to stop windfall cracking the conservatory roof.
