  1. For the week. Just too much of a northerly element to winds for us in the northern part of the region. By the time winds back ESE the air stabilises. Ho hum. For Friday, anyone with lying snow will have a greater chance of avoiding it turning to rain. Was a few years ago now but remember an Atlantic warm front with uppers of around 0C crashing into the cold of our region. Even with the milder uppers, only snow fell over the snowfields of the South East.
  2. I think our best chance along with the home counties is on Wednesday when winds shift more to the east. A bit too early for the Met Office to issue ambers in that time frame yet. The track of Thursday's approaching low pressure is still uncertain and could have a big effect on if and how long we might be under a streamer for on Weds.
  3. I've only been looking at GFS ppn charts which show Kent as the bullseye zone but a lot more ropey for us north of the Thames with only the odd weak trough pushing through. Any other hi-res output people have seen which can give a bit more hope to us northerners? Also, I don't understand how the upper flow at times looks very ESE, a lot like 09 in fact yet the streamers are still progged a direct NE. Oh well. All fun and games. Good luck everyone.
  4. Loving these charts but stressing a bit as I'm supposed to be flying to Amsterdam next Thursday evening. Just forked out for new travel insurance as I have a feeling Heathrow could be completely grounded.
  5. Getting a good covering and beginning to settle on the roads now! Expecting a rapid thaw once this front has passed over us though. 11 degree overnight temperatures tonight. Currently 0.4 degrees.
  6. Dew Point is the temperature at which moisture in the air condenses. A DP below 0 increases the chances of whatever falls from the sky being of the frozen variety, amongst many other factors.
  7. 8 hours of solid snow now easing off. Over 10cm accumulations, current temp 0.3c. Kerrrrayyyzzeeee.
  8. Forecast yesterday said rain but we're over 8cm in this part of London and still coming down. Best snow event here since 2010. There were no gritters out last night from what I could see and unsurprisingly cars unable to make it up Barnet Hill/Meadway are been abandoned.
  9. Just been woken up as well as probably millions of other people in the capital. The thunder in this thing is incredibly loud! A few hours ago you couldn't hear a thing from these strikes yet now it is booming like few other storms I've ever seen. Any reason why?
  10. Multiple strikes a second now directly overhead. Rain has stopped, wind completely died but no sound from the flashes. Eerie.
  11. Very impressive cell forming over North London. Huge CC bolts every 2-5 seconds.
  12. Hi all. Hope you are enjoying the snow up north. I have a request, does anyone have a link to a webcam in or near Halifax? Would be very useful. Cheers
  13. Rapid development of cells over Crawley in the last 10 minutes. With any luck heading for London
  14. It's happening again, all the energy transferring east into Kent and then Essex. Arg, maybe time to call it a night.
  15. It's all kicking off here. Just seen a Polish guy running around the road threatening to cut an Irish guy's head off. Oh you thought I'd caught some storm activity? Nope. Those channel storms look a lot better for London than the MCS earlier mind you with 500 hpa winds progged to back more S/SSE in the coming hours.
  16. What I'm assuming is the Anvil has reached North London. Some stunning mammatus being underlit by the setting sun! This thing is must be a beast.
  17. I must say I wasn't expecting gusts so strong in this part of the country. In the last half hour winds have really picked up and the trees are going nuts. Seems like the strongest we've had this winter.
  18. Just stood on Barnet Hill about 110m asl. The howl of the wind is incredibly loud and the trees are going mental. I've seen a wooden fence snap in half lol.
  19. Two big flashes and loud rumbles within about 3 minutes of each other. Got soaked getting off the bus.
  20. Heaviest snow of the winter here. Gritters have been past about 3 times already but roads are still covered and Craig Beattie has just signed for Barnet. What a great Sunday!
  21. I don't get what all the doom is about. Just spoke to CWT2012 who assured me that the USA storm is going to intensify as it crosses the Atlantic and we could well see 2m of snow in some places early next week.
  22. Sleetyness in Barnet Got a text from someone that Potters Bar has snow the lucky beggars.
  23. Stalling front over the west of our region on Thursday night with favourable uppers. Worth keeping an eye on how this one develops?
