  1. Serious downgrades required or we need to start taking this storm more seriously... It's unusual to have model agreement so early on I think this is why the met have already issued a yellow warning.. GFS tends to over cook wind gusts... but the high res models are usually pretty good..
  2. I'm hoping GFS 06z would back away from Fridays storm but it hasn't... Probably over doing it but it's within semi reliable now... could be wide spread 70mph inland right in the middle of the day! Coasts approaching 90mph!
  3. Morning all.. Breezy here spot of rain so far... Think it could get a bit windy down on the coast later today... not very nice conditions for a Sunday afternoon walk. Some quite high wind gusts on exposed parts ..
  4. Quite potent spell of wind... albeit short lived tomorrow morning Be interesting to see if met issue warning 60mph on coast
  5. Doubt we will see much rain at all... high pressure looks to continue over our part for the next couple of weeks with maybe the odd front here and there. Could this be linked to climate change? I'm not sure.. we need another decade of winters to compare with but recently bar the exeptions.. in the last decade our winters have been dominated by South westerly winds. With a warming climate it wouldnt really surprise me that southern UK winters become snowless in the next 5 years. It takes something truly extraordinary to get anything cold here now. Could be dry high pressure dominated winters become the norm as we displace the jet in winter.. who knows. We meed more time and data to know. Having to water the field and plants again this week. Second winter in a row where we have had to water when plants are dormant because they are showing signs of lack of water (pot grown plants)
  6. Morning all Checked the weather station this morning for how much rain has fallen this month... a meer 20mm! And most of that was on one day.. incredible for mid winter. GFS sorta hinting at a change but still to far away. We are slowly running out of time now for best winter conditions. By mid to end February I'm looking for early spring warmth and the first thunderstorms/hail showers.
  7. -2.4 here. I knew when coming back from pub last night and seeing cloud it was not going to get as cold as first thought. However one thing I have noticed is the brief northerly wind has brought in much much drier air. Not so much frost this morning but ground frozen solid.
  8. Yep was -0.5 when I woke up rose slightly to 0.5c bit confusing lol! The reason why the roads are so dirty is due to number one zero rain to give them a good wash and also down to the sheer amount of rock salt going down on them each night. If you combine that with foggy damp weather that doesn't tend to dry out this time of year it makes for filthy and also very slippy roads! Going by the GFS this morning we are not leaving this weather pattern any time soon. Thus must be the 20th or so frost here now this winter. Which is a lot more than past winters in the last decade!
  9. -3 here this morning and thick freezing fog. Proper Hoar frost! I was saying last night had we stayed clear and free of fog we may have put the -6.3 here under threat from last week.
  10. Another frost this morning... could this winter go down as one with most frosts in a long time? I think if we can maintain a clear sky tonight with not much fog we may put the -6.3c here last week under threat.. which is pretty good given the last few winters!
  11. 6.7c here this morning... Strange winter month for weather although high pressure in winter is fairly common. Usually it migrates somewhere.. I think that is what is different this time round, it just won't budge! If this was summer, it would have probably been quite hot and dry. If winter persits with high pressure then we ideally want a wet spring otherwise it could have implications as we move into summer
  12. Frost here again this morning but yes, slightly warmer... the fog well... can't see across the street!!! No planes which is very nice!
  13. -2 again this morning.. if we can get a frost from now till it gets colder again early next week this could be the most frosts in a row here since that easterly in 2018 I think, when we had 9 days of frost albiet colder than now. Frost staying in the shade too, even though we are now above freezing by quite a bit, in part, due to low soil temps as little or no sun this time of year in sheltered spots. Sun is now well and truly on the gain though now. With each day adding 2 1/2 minutes of daylight . Seems like not a lot but over 30 days that's well over an hour of daylight.. by end March the days are nearly 2.5-3 hours longer than in December. It's a shame really as we do not aline well in winter with best time of year for snow vs absoulte solar minimum. Usually February is our snowiest part of winter here. However, by late Feb we have gained well over an hour of sunlight from solar minimum on 21st December. Many times in February despite low temperatures, if you don't have cloud cover it's drip drip of melting snow as the sun really gets to work.
  14. Morning all About to have one if my most favourite types of weather.. FOG! Could be some very impressive hoar frosts over the next week or so. Amazingingly after a fairly clear start albeit cloudy the fog has come down already! Queue pea soup!! Fog really does provide a strange environment when walking out and about. You forget buildings and trees are there then all of sudden they appear when you get closer! For one living next to an airport flight path as well, the lack of planes is also welcome although I know probably not good for all the people being delayed. I reckon somewhere is going to go below 50m visibility which will make driving very tricky, shame people don't drive to the conditions and instead think everywhere is an F1 track.
  15. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and time to relax.. Could get quite blowly tomorrow for a time around late morning lunch time especially on coasts... surprised no warning really given lots of people will be moving around and going for walks...40mph inland 50-55mph on exposed parts .. Okay nothing extreme but given the volume of rain over the last few days the ground is quite soft..
  16. France pretty cold in North East parts cold to as well to our North but you can see the mild air making inroads into South Western areas
  17. Coldest morning this year recorded on my weather station, lower than any temperature in Jan Feb and March. -4.8c showing this morning and recorded. Pretty cold! notice the frost on the big leylandii in the background, like giant Christmas trees! All gone now and 5c...
  18. Very breezy here now.. quite strong for how far inland we are.. can hear it down the chimney and wrapping around the house. My location from a southerly or westerly wind seems to get battered Northly or Easterly.. Nothing Defined squall now and probably packing a bit of a short but sharp punch
  19. 2 rounds of wind looks likely tomorrow more so in the evening and Wednesday morning.. First is associated with what I can only imagine is going to be a pretty active squall line / front moving through from Barra. Using Arome to highlight this.. 5pm This quickly moves through although pretty windy tomorrow afternoon and evening especially along coasts.. Switching to Aprege now as AROME still running out... doesn't go out to Wednesday yet.. Quite breezy Wednesday although as Barra fills out over the UK these ease through the afternoon... Thankfully we look to miss the very worse of the winds, having said that I think a small chance the South Coast might get an Amber warning if those stronger winds out West do push down the Channel or the storm is slightly further South. Still some potential for localised disruption and trees down... More so when the Squall moves through as its very well timed with the school rush and rush hour!
  20. For the sake of everyone on the south coast I hope ICON is wrong here RE next weeks storm. Next run coming out now.. I like extreme weather but no thanks..
  21. Thankfully the low being modelled for early next week on the current GFS is going through its weakening stage when it makes landfall. Meaning the strongest of winds stay out at sea although still pretty rough for a time. Not sure what to make of it, I think the GFS is doing its usual and blowing it up to much. ECM sends it so far south its nothing to worry about really... GFS is usually fairly good at track this far out but not the depth of the low and likes to back down on intensity nearer the time
