  1. Parts of northern England will see some pretty strong gusts if this comes off as predicted, Scotland will bear the brunt (possibly) but certainly I think some parts of the north of England could see some tree / structural damage from this one. (oh and Northern Ireland!)
  2. Looking at the projected wind speeds I think that a line north of Tyneside possibly Blyth in Northumberland could see some serious winds. Although I still maintain it will be like any Autumn storm! lol
  3. I really think you are splitting hairs here mate, if a storm is gusting to 73+mph then it is gusting to hurricane force really isn't it? Anyway it's not worth getting in to is it, either way it's going to be windy!
  4. Yes but hurricane force they are if they are gusting to those speeds? It is NOT a hurriane but the the wind speeds are hurricane force there is a significant difference! Cheers Harry
  5. That's what I assumed Hurricane Force winds i.e 75-85mph gusts? Not 100%, Harry can you help me on this one?
  6. Looking at these that you have kindly drawn up I may have to publicly apologise as I am in the H in all 3!
  7. Totally agree with you there mate and believe me I have seen some windstorms in my time (70-80mph gusts) and they do cause some disruption. I think though that this is being ramped beyond ramping and seriously think we willl just see (south of the border) some strong winds. I like a good Autumn storm but think some folks may end up dissapointed when there's a slight breeze blowing through their gardens! lol P.S If I am wrong then I will publicly aplogise!
  8. To be fair anything MUCH higher than 60mph and you are entering dangerous wind speeds, in terms of falling trees and debris etc. I really don't think it's going to be a huge event, things always get ramped up (I am usually ramping) but it is forecast to lose some intensity anyway. This is not a hurricane just a typical Autumn windstorm IMO (again in terms of wind speed etc). Like SJ says we all need to take a deep breath, the worst of the winds likely to hit Scotland and they are a hardy bunch and well prepared for this event not like the Southern UK!
  9. Cheers Mate, wind is starting pick up here that's why I was asking as it wasn't too bad earlier! Got a huge oak tree in the grounds at work here and the branches are swaying all over the place now.
  10. Great to hear what's happening around the country but is there supposed to be some strongs winds again for the north later this afternoon? I thought it was all going to die away by then?
  11. That's what I was thinking!? I really want to see what happens when this hits the south coast, I am obviously not there but still very interesting all the same! Hope if it maintains it's intensity I see some great pics tomorrow!!
  12. According to UKww the sferics are decaying now, can anyone confirm this?
  13. Over in UKww a bloke from Jersey is reporting "loads of lightning" to his south.... Good luck yall!
  14. Those storms on the continent are enough to make me want to move over there
  15. We had plenty of thundersnow last November here, forked lightning the works through the night was great, so yes it is most definately possible!! lol
  16. lol yes that's why I picked that one, but to be honest anywhere in the risk zone would suit me!
  17. Just to be anywhere in the risk zone would suit me lol We have had a load of storms this year but don't think I would ever get sick of them even if I had one every day of the year lol To be honest there's not a massive distance between the north and south of the region (in terms of miles) is there? So, I would be surprised if there were intense storms in the south of the region, if they didn't make their way north to you! lol
  18. I am LOVING the write up from the MetO for the East of England tonight wish I was there: Tonight: Becoming increasingly cloudy with rain moving north, becoming heavy at times with an increasing risk of intense thunderstorms and local downpours, especially in the south. Minimum temperature 14 °C.
  19. Showers are starting to pep up over the Pennines now, is this what the yellow warning was for from the MetO I wonder as up to now it's OK here! Something developed earlier then fizzled to nothing.
  20. That's the ones I think, just googled them cheers! They are not as pronounced as the pictures but definately them.
  21. really stupid question but what are those "bubbly" clouds called? There's loads of them developed now and spreading rapidly NE'wards from the SW of here....
  22. There's definately a cell developing just to the SW of Newcastle I am watching it from home now. Sky looks menacing and developing quite rapidly. It may be no more than a rainstorm but a rumble of thunder would be great!
  23. Sky is turning increasingly black to my West now (Pennine area) and sky is filling rapidly. Looks amazing. raintoday showing something starting up at 3pm update, hope it continues ;-)) Yellow warning issued for today for NE England and Scotland???? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html?day=1
  24. Just incase nobody seen it this is the response from the MetO when I asked about why no warnings etc where placed: Thank you for your email. The Met Office has been forecasting heavy rain for a few days. Met Office weather warnings are only issued for widespread disruption and the heavy rain in Southern England has been localised, therefore warnings have not been issued. Thank you for the picture you kindly provided. I hope this helps to clarify matters for you. Thank you for taking the time to contact the met office.
