  1. Looking at the Meto forecast for NE England tonight I am hopeful (ish) Headline: Scattered heavy showers this evening and during Monday. This Evening and Tonight: Heavy, thundery showers continuing across many parts of the region through the evening, local slow-moving downpours for a time, but some evening sunny intervals also possible. Still a few showers overnight but many parts becoming generally dry. Minimum temperature 11 °C. Monday: Further heavy showers are likely, giving local downpours, with just a few sunny intervals in between. A northwesterly breeze picking up during the afternoon, so feeling on the cool side. Maximum temperature 17 °C.
  2. I have been waiting for a shower to pass over Washington for the pasr 25 minutes but it seems to have joined the main line stretching from Bamburgh, Just looked out to my west and can see heavy rain shafts and fairly large towers going up. This may just be heavy convective rainfall when it passes over but hopefully it will get it's act in to gear and let off some electricity!
  3. This just reported from a member off another site so looking good so far for the NE and other areas of the UK going by reports: Newcastle Airport Area - Picking up Sferics, and just had a massive torrential downpour. But even better, there was very strong rotation, and there was definately a funnel trying to form less than a mile away. Was amazing to watch. If you go to raintoday.co.uk and look at the radar at 11am and then again at 12.45 you can see the line that has developed between Bamburgh and Stockton looks good! Showers also really picking up in the SE.
  4. Sorry maybe that was a tad flippant but nohing meant by it other than that it's usually us up here with the frustration and I understand how you feel thats all I meant by it Staffordshire.
  5. Another Update From UKWW: Moderate risk of Showers and Thunderstorms across Scotland and N/E Parts of the UK Sunday. Main Risk is in the inherintly unstable air across Scotland and extending into NE England where forecast ascents are deeply unstable air and where this is more conditional instability to be released. HIRLAM Convergence zones are picked up as across Central Grampian , the Highlands and into NE England this afternoon and forecast ascents indicate CB readily acheivable with slow moving heavy showers and Thunderstorms developing in the slack flow. Other Showers, isolated Sferics likely across Eastern England into East Anglia. Wrap around across Wales, NW England and N England contains frontal debris and is not true convection. Activity across Southern Areas this morning could be heavy for a time as it moves east.
  6. This from UKWW. Usually very good with forecasts. 9.40am Sun Moderate Risk of Scattered Thundery Showers 09Z-21Z Northern and Eastern Regions of UK Quasi stationary low remains in place close to Scotland. Occluded front continues to develop heavy rain for many parts during the morning. Later in the day we can expect scattered convective showers to initiate as lapse rates increase. Some of which are likely to turn thundery. Relatively weak upper supporting winds and lack of convergence looks to minimise any real organisations within developing convection. Instability looks to become strongest north of Yorkshire by mid afternoon. The risk map can bve viewed here: http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=44008&posts=1

  8. Torrential rain here in NE4 came out of nowhere. Sky is getting darker and darker. Not sure if any thunder will will be heard but heavy convective rain all the same :-)
  9. Look what's moving in from Carlisle towards the NE. Have been intensifying nicely but radar has gone on the blink so not sure now! Looking out towards my west can see the cloud starting to build look fairly stormy
  10. get the pullets away Peter! Is there any lightning from it that you can see?
  11. Aye I was, so there's plenty of thunder there then, hope those showers to the south make it up here in one piece!
  12. Is that between Newcastle and Carlisle? Or is that the one near Scotch Corner?
  13. lol Aye seems to be the case a lot of the time. I have been really lucky so far this summer but many a time I have been sat there twiddling me thumbs when someone 10 miles away is in the middle of a good storm! Would love to see a storm / tornado by USA standards lol
  14. http://stormscapelive.com/john-paul-rizza/ they are now under a massive cell looks great!
  15. I would like to be on the eastern side of that line stretching from Newark to Brigg...looks pretty intense there...
  16. That cell over Durham is really starting to explode now, let's hope it hangs on until it passes the border into Tyne and Wear!! (From a purely selfish point of view of course)
  17. http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/9130729.Tornado_hits_Bolton/
  18. The band is intensifying as it moves over Durham, which ties in with Gavins post about thunder heard. Hope it continues it's on a collision course for me....I may have to eat me words!
  19. Well I rekon the NE has used it's quota for storms this time around it just seems to be heavy showers passing through. Mind you it's good to see other areas like Edinburgh getting storms because they're not as regular up there.
  20. Best storm I ever seen was sitting on the patio of Ye Olde White Horse in Spalding in 1997/8 The fens used to be great for storm watching... http://stormscapelive.com/john-paul-rizza/ live storm chase across York area I think?
