Its on its way to you - not long by the looks of the radar - sleety stuff here in BrightonNot happy
-
Game over here ,what has fallen is melting ,temp and dewpoint rising and sleet falling
-
It turned to snow (ish) when the heavier stuff on the radar went by - METO still say heavy...we shall see, I cant see how though with a temp of 1.7 and DP of 1.1Yes it was always looking like Brighton would have this, it was on the borderline of my plots this week, so sad you have it for you, but pleased as I got it right
-
On the radar we went under a darker pink section and the snow was heavier for a while, there is heavier snow behind in the band coming from the west, how that behaves when it gets to us is the question - METO suggest heavy snow, so perhaps it will be! It seems to be turing to rain/sleet over portsmouth area on the radar but pink when it gets past worthing areaLight dusting now, snow beginning to come down, will it turn back to rain?
[not very technical I know - just guessing, using logic?/?]
-
Anyone here able to tell me if the front is behaving as expected, with snow fall amounts and speed of moving east and the line it slows down at?
-
Definately looking more sleety now but light dusting remains, and to be honest i'm happy enough, even if it turns to rain or doesn't stick anymore, I've gotten snow with a light accumulation, which is a good start and good enough for me, and it's not like things will turn very mild again next week, there could be more events to come!
Mine sleety too - i do find the not knowing either way tests my sanity! METO still says heavy snow coming as of 9pm? I am happy with the sugar dusting too
-
Anyone able to tell whether the front is moving as predicted - from having a look at reports some places not getting as heavy snowfall as predicted, speed being mentioned too....just curious
-
temperature is going up a little too - thats Brightons on the edge kind of identity :-)Talk about a Knife Edge...Dew Point now at 0.0
-
Radar says snow for me, I think its sleetRadar says yes.
Lampost says no.
-
nothing here yet either - East Brighton, sea front just west of the Marina
Edit: with perfect timing it just started after posting the above! Blowing in hard from the direction of the sea - makes me nervous (the direction that is, not the sea)
I guess the air from the sea could warm or cool - not expert enough to know - definatly very light almost sleet up here at 67m, icing sugar dusting so far
-
actually I think its a bit sleety - more like icy melting type "snow" from a freezer!
-
Whereabouts in Brighton are you .. we still have none near Ditchling Road
Alpine Glow I am near Blakers Park - you might need magnifying glass to see, but there have been a few light grains drifting by :-)
-
Sleet
Where are you in Brighton - my snow up near Preston Park is very light and airy! Not sure its really there actually lol Radar is very pink though?
-
very very light snow here now
-
just saw the ECM (Ohhh goody) this week COULD turn out to be one to remember :-) , cars outside beginning to turn white on the roofs :-) Dew point down to -0.3 though , so it's still touch and go here , but steady snow now falling (beginning to wonder if the weather station has a fault, because IMO a dew point of -0.3 wouldn't support snowfall ?
Hasnt got to me yet and the radar is pink for last 1/2 hour - perhaps its sporadic due to temps?
-
no rain showing on the radar along the coast (porstmouth etc) sleet, waiting to see if the rain comes after or whether it all turns sleet/snow as it moves east
-
Max Temp here today was 1.4, it's currently 1.3 in Shoreham by Sea (on the actual sea front), with a dew point now of -1.5 , I'm about 166ft elevation, and 1 1/2 miles inland here, so it's likely a tad colder and dew point a tiny bit lower perhaps, all in all it's looking good for us, the dew point has got lower as the day has gone on, so bodes well...just not liking that band of Precipitation ahead of the main band, hoping that wont fall as rain before the main event...it's still touch and go for us I think
Thanks, you sound like you know what you are talking about, whereas I am unsure but "think" i get how the weather works! Brighton varies so much, maybe you will get snow and me sleet - I am 200ft on a hill!
-
DP has dropped now -1.5 temp still 1.2 and set to rise when winds change from SE to S according to the METO
-
the winds feel like they are picking up here, making it feel colder, but its not as cold as yesterday
-
Was worried about some marginality near the south coast when front arrives, but dew points seem to be holding down nicely atm looking at the 1300 plot below (DPs in green) - DPs very low across Nern France - where the winds blowing from - so at least the air may stay dry enough once its crossed the channel for snow right to the south coast:
Thanks for update :-)
-
warmer winds? i thought it was colder over there?
not an expert and cant guarantee I have understood what I am reading on the Significant Snow Threat thread, but the Southerly winds coming off the channel at the moment towards Brighton/Worthing area are warming the air - slightly! I think!
Living in Brighton is a snow lovers nightmare! It's always like this I always remain hopeful but it would be nice be to really sure for once!!!
Agree - my sanity is on the edge! I will be happy when I know either way!
-
Glad to report I am finally understanding the element that might make things marginal along the coast - there are warmer winds coming from the channel, if it stays like this when the main front passes then it will be more marginal here (thinking isle of wight to beachy head) - being realistic saves my sanity!!
-
Winds are suggested to be due south an arrival of the front, so may make it marginal along southern coastal areas with the wind off the sea. It's fortunate though that the front has occluded by the time is reaches the SE tonight, with the warm sector across the Channel, but the warm sector will be crossing the SW of England today, so mainly rain at lower-levels:
Thank you - I am a learner but been itchy to understand how this event might be marginal for my area (Brighton) and the winds from the sea now make sense (dont want to say outloud incase of linching, but actually would prefer sleet/rain, so hoping this is still the case with the winds today :-)) Bit worried about sleet/snow/sleet and then ice on surfaces though
-
METO now saying rain at 9pm followed by sleet for Brighton, its going to be a bit messy if the rain turns to snow and back to snow - but looking good for those north and east of us for all snow
Latest BBC Forecast had snow even right to the coasts for our region, I don't think anyone needs to worry.
Thanks - I cant get the BBC weather to play on my broadband slow connection! just watching METO symbols and the radar!
