  1. If the front moves 15+ miles on later forecasts/runs then we shouldn't worry about rain as it'll likely all fall as snow, but is marginal atm but most still suggest about 5cms possible in B&H area but that isn't decided yet of course! currently -1.2C.

Thanks - we are always in the no-mans land and need to just watch and see. METO still saying sleet and temps rising during Sat Night? Maybe thats the air coming off the channel!? Oh how I wish I understood better lol

  2. Just trying again for a science lesson :-) Brighton and Hove is always on the western edge of snow predicted for the east of our area - cant see how they know our little lump on the map will or wont be included but hey. I cannot remember the things that effect whether coasts get snow or rain - I think Easterly winds are more helpful for snow and this situation isnt that, so what would determine what might fall here?

I am expecting snow then sleet and not much to settle (although I am on a hill in Brighton, so it sometimes makes a difference :-))

Why would Eastbourne be less vulnerable to rain for instance as usually its snow there, Newhaven as well

  3. Right guys the NMM now goes out to 48hrs on its 00z run and the news is GOOD from it.

Snow arriving between 7-9pm (though I think its a couple of hours too fast!) and still going strong across our whole area by midnight.

Ever so slightly marginal maybe on south facing coast on the Esturary so myself and Paul may not see quite as much snow as places further inland and west but should still see settling snow.

Can you remind me how the coast effects rain/snow events, I am thinking that here on the south coast (Brighton) we often get snow if its an easterly but maybe not coming from the west? Very hilly here so it varies across the city too, just trying to remember the science! Dew points too - what does that need to be for snow?

  4. These type of Conditions we are experiencing are Indicitive of 1980's type winters for the younger members who have never actually lived through them. In the Period from 1979 - 1987 we had weeks upon weeks of dry cold frosty weather but when the Snows came they came with avengence! This I later learnt were situations like we have now with a huge block of Cold air priming the ground and the Battleground scenario with the Atlantic trying to come in and Snow events with the Cold winning out, If we had computers and Forums then the unpatient ones would have been the same as they are now, but as Coast said yesterday we never knew anything until the old Tv forecasts picked up on an advancing front usually 1 day ahead Max. I also think we have too much data at our disposal nowadays and the romance has been taken away.

Patience is a Virtue! That is all I am going to say atm

I remember those winters and its how I think of winters! Bright blue skies, frost and then some snow - which i seem to remember never stopped my parents driving around and trains worked too!!! I have been watching all week and in the past I would have said Brighton is almost always the place that the snowline stops at - we used to never get it, but the last two winters have changed all that. Actually hope we dont get snow and iced in like before, but cold, bright blue skies and some snow is great with me (not that I am fussy and unrealistic to think I can choose what mother nature dishes out!! )

  5. It ain't gonna settle, but I admire your positivity and it could sleet/wet snow tommorow.

I first thought rain and gales - then no gales - then saw lots of pink nearby on a model chart and thats the moment the word Snow popped up!! Now.....well, its raining, doesnt feel that cold, I will be able to tell if it changes as the gutters leak and the noise will stop if snow appears! and not much of a gusty gale either

  6. correction something wrong with my postcode on netweather forecast - just put in Brighton and Hove and it shows sleet and 1degree! No wonder my finger is not feeling on the pulse of whats going on - nevermind the experts having trouble

Normally I'm an "extreme" weather fan, but seeing as I'm flying out of Gatwick to Vegas on Friday I'm starting to get a dreadful feeling about things.

Don't know how accurate this is as it's often wind direction dependant, but think that 50knots + and airports start to close thier runways??

    :(

Ooops something is amiss with my signatures.......need to delve in to the software!! :sorry:

Oh dear - that might be a dilemma, either grounded by the weather or a choppy ride, maybe.....hopefully you can hazard a better guess tomorrow
