  1. Was up for a peddle with the kids at the park yesterday afternoon and noted that while still plenty of drift and patches (and ice on paths - not fun!), the burns were really full and water now runnign off everywhere. Streams where there are not normally streams, etc. Looking at the snow gate cameras (love that site!) they all look damp but still holdign lots of snow - hopefully the the slower slaw continues, rather than the faster kind here. Found a dead bird under the last pile of snow in the back garden, which has now melted (snow, not the bird, though it is decaying - yuch!). I must have not noticed and happened to have given it a ceremonial temporary burying last week. It looks like a very small hawk. Would post a photo, but something has eaten it's head clean off - will take a photo and clip it perhaps. Do these hawks attack each other? It looked like a smaller version of the attached (old photo of "something" eating a pigeon it caught in our old house back patio). Oh yeah, weather, windy and wild - I'm weird and quite like this sort of weather. Just as well for me, as looks like for here at least we have a good while of rinse and repeat going on.
  2. Happy five-o! I was going to say good stacking skills, then I went "oh". Not many piles left here, at least not of the snow variety! Long ranges look a mess, I have trouble speculating at the best if times. Looks more of the same for a while to me. Chat of "flipping". ?
  3. I wonder if the wind is a factor in that it scours and deposits in to deeper patches. On walk today the weight of snow is considerable to a few days ago for these deeper areas. Presumably they are retaining much of the rain that's fallen still and as per drm says give it a few days, though working week nights are not too mild this week inland and not too wet either so slow slow?
  4. Hi all. Well, most snow now gone on the city, except for the piles here and there. Up in the park a different story, and from the photos in this thread from the "outback" it's still a snowy scene, all be it a bit mushy I guess. Hopefully roads can be dug out and the thaw there remains slow and does not cause any issues. A quite remarkable arctic plunge taking place across the pond. Sub zero (Celsius) right down to the gulf of Mexico in areas (Texas e.g.). Brrrr. For us, the outlook still hold some potential for interest as far as my uneducated eye can see if it is cold you are after. You don't need to look too far ahead (2 weeks) to see 850 temp range forecasts varying from anything and everything between +10C and -15C!!! Says it all really for me. Winter is not over. But I am hunting short term mild for now, and early next week still looks possible for low teens I would say in some favoured spots north of the border? SE England could be nudging 20C if things play out to the upper end. After this then as said, who knows. But interested to hear any thoughts, but to me another possible easterly could be on the cards, though a bit outside chance at the moment?
  5. I've got my eyes on the potential warmth next week, in the uppers at least. Then yes, looks to me like many of the favourable factors for cold in place. We'll see!
  6. Mmm, turn of month chase perhaps! Easterly or maybe the elusive Northerly. Off for final damp sledge today.
  7. A p@rno slow mo - apologies, just worked out how to get videos uploaded and everyone is probably bored of snow photos/videos now!! 20210213_130620.mp4
  8. Drifting even in city - this is a bit higher up at Hazlehead park/golf course. Great fun! A nice final fling to this spell for here. 20210213_120406.mp4
  9. Morning! Still some very light snow showers blowing about in quite severe gusty winds. Temperature just above freezing, but not by much. Quite notable conditions. The severe gusts seem to be limited to the coast, but still must be some crazy drifting inland. Even here up the road with small bit elevation snow is still just dry enough to blow about. I'll face the wrath, but not nice. Roll on a milder spell, then a early March northerly please!
  10. Heavy blowing snow. Awesome, just back from probably last snow falling walk in a while, and the Mrs advised we timed it bad as it got heavy. Erm, Yeah, I said....
  11. Looking at the snow radar, forc Aberdeen it's the parting of the red sea!! No major thaw here. Crunchy and compacted after last night sleet and snow. Nice change to squeaky snow. interesting comments on longer range!
  12. Snowing but a bit wet. My understanding is there a bit of a milder sector and parameters improve later in the night. Snow compacting. Fear for my gutters! On the bright side, the sledging will be fast tomorrow!
  13. Morning all. Just the -8 here in the city at my house. Not sure how accurate as recently moved house so not used to micro local trends here. Also my sensor is buried under snow! What is best site for unofficial temperatures? I know it previously been posted so apologies!
  14. North East too? That's what I was trying to allude to
  15. We'll metO have removed the 2 hour heavy snow symbols from the auto forecast so I take that as the thumbs up (to be fair there afternoon symbols were reasonably bang on for here I thought/think). But yeah looks okay hopefully
  16. Evening all! What a day for many. Attention North-Easters with more knowledge than me (that put's everyone in frame!). Ignoring the radar and concentrating on the satellite visual returns, there looks to me to be some pretty interesting potential brewing for early evening. Perhaps a last hurray for the next day or so? Any opinions? It is just coming in to the North East quadrant around 100km diagonally offshore Aberdeen. Rainfall radar is only half interesting, but I wondered if it will brew up? I guess we will see in a few hours, and there are a few wee ones inbound it seems before then to keep us occupied in the mean time! EDIT I see MetO auto forecast has heavy snow 7pm and 8pm - maybe coincidental, or maybe not (though their text forecast suggest pettering out this evening)
  17. Hi all. I think someone in Aberdeen has pi$$ed in the weather gods cornflakes? We just can't seem to catch a streamer at all this spell, but done "okay" I guess despite that. But is our luck changing? Radar and nowcasting look promising. Some great posts from elsewhere, where clearly you have been offering the weather gods blue-top in their cornflakes!
  18. I was trying to stay positive (because obviously that plays a role in the outcome of weather ), but had changed my mind to it going to come to nothing. However I see what you mean, but looks to me not quite intense enough and will fizzle out as it nears land?
  19. This made me laugh - I do exactly the same sort of thing. Planning on the same tonight, but post tea - looking at the state of the radar it may be a bit trickier to judge than last night up here though! Looking forward to the reports from further south over the next day or so
  20. While you may be right, it has got quite dark and snowy outside? Sun is going down right enough which may account for the dark bit! They definitely seem to be evaporating as they near the coast to an extent (would love to understand why if someone can elaborate?), and the strength of the showers on the return is noticeably less than the stuff going on the the south now, but it's snowing so I'll take it! EDIT Getting a lot heavier actually
  21. Exactly my thought, raised a bit of an eyebrow to recent evolution on the radar had been tracking it since earlier this morning coming off the Norwegian coast. Not 100% convinced yet, bit I nearly am!
  22. yeah, looking good I think for a top up - fairly heavy at the moment. There is a track south but based on the pressure for the moment closer to land in the NE there is still a wee "drag" north towards the end to keep it true and straight...though that changes later on in the day as it undoubtedly shifts to a more have southerly tilt. I will stick my neck out and say we have a good few hours of on/off heavy showers here...
