  1. 0.1c now, up from -1.3c - I think this will be mostly rain before turning to more rain
  2. I am pleased that there is a Yellow Warning of Snow rather than a Warning of Yellow Snow
  3. As Mcgaskill would say, "it's snowing like billyho' - in a massively marginal situation, height makes all the difference. There are loads of houses here, sounds like some of you should consider moving!
  4. What is nice, is that I am sitting in my kitchen, with the lights off, like a sad snow addict, and I can see it falling without the need for artificial light, no lamppost, no security light, nothing. It may be marginal elsewhere but there is nothing sweeter than listening to Louise Lear (phwoar) saying, "higher totals possible on hills" and actually living on a hill.
  5. We are just inside M25' not far from M26 and we have the heaviest snow of the spell. Temp has just gone below 0c. This is a nice surprise and precisely the kind of event I moved here for!
  6. Strange, some of the snowflakes are marked "despatch to uckfield". Must be a strong wind involved.
  7. Still snowing quite heavily. Is it ever going to stop? -1.3c now, highest temp today -0.8c. Love it.
  8. I think the flashes are trains, when the third rail gets a coating, the shoes can arc
  9. -1.2c and throwing it down, seems like heaviest of the day, big thick flakes making the depth increase very quickly. This has outdone all expectations
  10. The faster I clear the snow, the heavier it falls. I give up. Hot chocolate. -1.5c up here
  11. Snow getting heavier, covering the paths I cleared with salt yesterday, -2.5c
  12. Agreed, we end up 2-3c colder than central London all year round but it's worth it. We moved here in June 2010 and then we got hit in December 2010, I could not believe my luck! Having said that, we will probably not see another Dec 2010 for many years, we were really in the sweet spot then.
  13. I now live somewhere that is mostly dark, but I have a powerful security lamp that has to be situated by the back door. I thin you understand why.....?
  14. Can I "come out" in the London & South East thread? I moved here specifically to increase my chances of snow in the winter. I was born and brought up near Portsmouth and rarely saw good snow events but was lucky to live near a lamppost, one of those garish Orange ones that councils loved in the 80s. They were hi-tech, they had a light sensor on top and switched on, initially red, when the light deteriorated. I lived in central London for years but always got frustrated when cold spells rarely resulted in decent snow, and yet 20 miles to the South East were finding roads blocked and trains cancelled. I remember an Ian Mcgaskill weather forecast in the early 80s referring to Kent. I was living near Portsmouth, where it was drizzling, and he referred to "snowing like billyho" down in Kent, off a strong easterly. Definition as below: billyo - an unimaginably large amount; "British say `it rained like billyo' where Americans say `it rained like all get out'" I need to live near London for my job, but I tried to select the optimum place to increase my snow chances. Persuading my wife to move here was a long-term project that involved descriptions of country walks, dog walking and fresh air. She doesn't know the real reason, and I hope she never will. Can you snow lovers keep this secret?
  15. The snizzle is now "heavy" and blowing off the roof and leaving a layer on cleared surfaces. -0.8c and heading lower
  16. Warmest temp of the day is now -2.3c. Snow has been on and off heavy all afternoon and still snowing now. About 12-15cm up here. S murr, around j4 you should see quite a lot
  17. -2.4c here and dropping quickly. Very unusual to get such low temps with a front coming in.
  18. -1.8c here and snow. Just been for a drive around the block and settling on the road. Up early to get a flight to Dubai - going to be 23c today. Back Wednesday morning, hope I don't miss all the action
