i think u have just nailed it no-one can confirm up until it happens with snow
Have got big old fluffy flakes falling in ramsgate now , and a good covering in the garden .nothing measurable at this point but cover all the same , and its settling temprature at mo is 0.1c,black sky full of snow, looking at rain today there are some real beefy showers wth east kent written all over them..
3rd morning this week that ive woken to snow, but apart from monday morning nothing significant , wold be nice to get the 5-10cm tomorow and hope that it doesent melt on sat..

theres your hook up at 66- pulsing more into the SE-
dont worry people...... constant snow for 18-24 hours is on the cards
S
Will this help keep the cold in situe for longer.i.e sat/sun..??

You strike me as a glass half empty man?
Come on......let's have some optimism!
listen im as excited as anyone on this forum, but im also casting my eye to the aftermath, i would like this cold spell to contine till march 1st not be over after 1 day of snow.., ill settle for something in between.oh and id like my glass to be full to the top wth snow .. not water

I've seen too many other sources that give me great confidence, the MET O will update on Friday and their TV output is already saying snow all the way through the weekend!
OK, just over an hour and the GFS 12z will cover us in snow (probably!!!)
I,, along wth millions of sotheasterners hope they do ,in any case it would be gr8 just to have a weekend of snow filled fun, can you imagine the parks and anywhere wth gradient for sleighing,, its one the kids will remember,, bring it on..
-
I trust some of you doubters will revisit this thread after Saturday's snow and read back over your comments regarding downgrades and 'no shows'. Well even if you don't I shall be popping in (between sledging and building snow men) to highlight these posts of doom and gloom!!!
Have you seen the METO further outlook?? doesent fill me wth confidence, having said that its looking good for this weekend though..
-
I think whatever we get this weekend regarding snow we should all enjoy and make the most of, looking at the meto exstended forcast it hints at the south and southwest being milder therefore rain ,sleet as apposed to snow and in the freezer, hopefully that will change , but i think this weekend is the breakdown for us for now !!
Good luck to everone this weekend ,enjoy..
Are the showers in the north sea likely to edge any nearer to the coast in the SE?
id like to think they would, but have been told there going south east and will just miss us, hope there wrong.
-
Thundery convection starting to take place in the north sea! Need that lot to come into the south east
They look guite beefy ,just wish my temp would drop by a degree
-
Ok here is my updated snow risk map for Kent, based on this morning outputs, knowledgable posters in the forum and meto updates, zones have stayed the same currently but Northern Areas of Kent may join Western area zone later today,
2cm Thanks your to kind i will treasure each cm like its gold..

Concerned regarding the snow fri/sat... We have just had a snow shower in ramsgate ,nothing heavy but a snow shower all the same and never looked like settling, which is not surprisnig given the temp, which at the moment is hovering around +2c , my concern therefore is it wont settle on friday either, given these sort of temps and wind off the channel like it will be on friday..
Good luck for those inland......
I WOULD LIKE OPTION 3 PLEASE....
-
Way isee it is like this ,yes we may get a day of snow fri eve sat morn, but judging the forward movement from the atlantic ,tempratures will continue to rise and the snow will melt fairly quick especially in kent, so i would prefere the system to take a more southerly route and go down in france and hopefully the cold will build back to our north and pull in the NE wind, which will be better in the long run for extended cold and snow prospects..
Just the way i see it...

Quite a decent snow shower going on here
Did you get mch last night? we have a good dusting in ramsgate ,but was expecting more the showers had no ipower in them and just seemed to fade away as soon as they hit, still there seem to be a lot more out in the n.sea wth brighter colours in them so hopefully they will be heavier ones.

A downgrade in snow potential. A dry cold spell does nothing for me.
First Saturday just gone was meant to deliver us snow then it was Monday, then it was today, then it was Wednesday and Thursday for snow showers (since downgraded), then it was friday (could be downgraded), now it could be next Monday. It's like chasing shadows!
He has got a point,,
-
light snow in Ramsgate, settling on car which did have light frost on already,
-
are the winds going to change to a NE/E tonight to help push these inland
-
Guys... I really wouldn't worry about your showers tonight and tomorrow... They will be a pimple on an elephants ass if Friday/Saturday comes off..
we arent we just want the 10cm that are forcast between 12 and 6am
-
Come on you bad girl, you now you love it!!!!!!!!!! Come to Uncle Coasty!!!!
An all Friday treat?
This would be on an epic grand scale 12hrs or more of moderate/heavy snow..
-
Quality charts there Gavin - It's such a fine line at the moment, some special I feel is brewing up come Friday & into the weekend with the Atlantic throwing these lows across the west country before easing over to the East. These types of setups are very good for the West and even the East as the preciptiation generally intensifies once it crosses the midlands / pennines to dump a load over them too. From a IMBY perspective this couldnt be far from great for us in the North West, with always the potential of stalling as the low's meet the block out in the East.
I think one thing for sure is, someone, somewhere is going to get an almighty dumping. I just hope it's in my back garden
But surely is will be in long run introducing milder air, and i notice on those snow totals that there is not mch deph if any for the south and south east.
-
why are temps in east kent as high as they are wth such cold uppers, when a little further nort in suffolk for instanance they are subzero????
-
How can they just say on the day before " Wintry flurries in the east " to " 10cm+ " this is what **** me off about the met office, if you can't forecast correctly then DON'T!
I'd rather them say there "might" be a chance
so we will all get excited tonight here on the east coast and expect 10 cm in the morning , wont tell my kids as they are already giving me a hard time after i told them a few days back were gonna get it.
-
87, 09, 10 were all exceptional events though. Hopefully we'll get something here this winter! Even a few cms would be fine, most we've had so far this week was a dusting on the cars the night before last. Friday looks good, but it seems these always downgraded the closer we get
you forgot 91, still remember canterbury wth 9 inches of snow ,which hung around for nearly 10 days..
-
Oh my goodness, who wants some of this?
but wont this be the atlantic attacking therfore followed by mild westerlies which would melt whatever falls fairly quick??
-
-
TBH, I think Friday needs to be ruled out... Our block is far to strong to allow the Atlantic in like that..
Now don't be down about that.. The reason is where ever that low goes.. It could spoil a good easterly because it will drag in Mild air with it... So although we might see wales with 4" of snow or whatever it may be... I think we need an attack from the east
Model thread typical.. Everybody having a go at each other..
completly agree wth that, we do not want the attack from the west to win ,yes we may get a daylike yesterday{some seeing snow most NOT}, but then its game over as the atlantic will prob dominate for at least 10 days, until we can get heights risind again.. We really need a push of cold air from the East, we all know that here in the southeast that our best chance of good snow and frozen land comes from eastern europe, scandanavia , or further afield Russia.

Had a very light flurry in Ramsgate while doing school run, far to warm to even consider staying at +3c ..
After watching BBC Weather i can only hope for a Kent clipper later on this evening and into the night as shown on those fantastic snow graphics that the BBC love to use, and in the mean time hope those temps and DPs keep on falling throughout the day, and maybe just maybe wake to a pleasant surprise in the morning, but after the last 24/36hrs shananigens, i will not be hopeing for to mch.[like i said a few days back just not cold enough,).
