  1. Light, icy snow here now, not really settling. Temp 1.1c.
  2. Every time that it becomes more snowy I think this is it, snow now, and then it turns back to rain. Has been happening all afternoon. Still as evening falls it should become more snowy, should settle pretty easily despite wet ground as dewpoint is sub-zero. Current temp 1.8c.
  3. Still sleet and hail here. Slightly frustrating to be so close to epic snowfall and yet so far away, but then again we generally do quite well for snow here and you can't always be in the sweet spot. Still expecting a few centimetres later this evening and into tomorrow, and will go snow hunting on the hills at the weekend.
  4. Heavy sleet here at the moment after cold, icy rain all morning. Those pics from further north are unbelievable, with much more to come as well. I expect the southern extent of snow to move south through the afternoon, may see a few centimetres here I hope. I'm hoping to head up some of the high ground near here over the weekend, Radnor Forest must have some decent snow depth right now I would think. Current temp 2.0c, max today may well turn out to be the 2.1c that we reached half an hour ago.
  5. Oh to be 100miles further north or a 100m higher up. As expected right on the cusp here, had some wet snow last night but turned back to rain several hours ago and washed away the small accumulations. Hills are shrouded in cloud but are probably pretty snowy. Cold rain here at the moment, 1.4c.
  6. Temp has dropped to 2.1c here now, down from 2.9c an hour ago. Rain has turned to a sleety, icy mix. I would imagine it is falling as snow on the surrounding hills, which since they already have several centimetres, could end up with some good snow depths in the next 48 hours. Down here we are marginal it could be 15cm of snow or it could be mostly rain. Will be interesting to see.
  7. We were pretty much on the snowline here yesterday morning, not quite 50% cover by 9am yesterday so not quite counting as a day of lying snow. Snowline proper was probably about 250m, and has steadily risen throughout yesterday and today so now lying snow is only above about 350m, although there is still the odd patch down here in the valley. Looks like there are a fair few centimetres up there though. Might be a help in depressing temperatures enough to bring us some more snow here over the nextcouple of days, when conditions are marginal. Would be interesting to see some snow over the next few days but after that some nice warm sunshine under an Azores ridge would be lovely. I'll keep dreaming...
  8. Argh, just wrote a really long post and then accidentally hit the back button on my browser. The essence of it was that I've just come back from Aberyswyth and there is heavy snow on the Powys side of the Cambrians, with the A44 covered and only passable with extreme care. 4-5cm already and snowing heavily. Down here in Llandrindod mostly sleet, we've got a slushy covering. If it had been a couple of degrees colder today then we would have quite a depth of snow as has been cold rain and sleet all day. 1.4c currently.
  9. Snowline approx 350m around here, doesn't seem to have retreated much all day, although it feels relatively mild out (at least compared to the bitter days early last week). Max temp of 7.6c and not much wind. Was good to see a bit of rain on Friday as there has been so little lately. Hope it isn't saving itself for summer!
  10. No snow here so far, just rain and hail. Got up to 7.3c at midday has fallen steadily since now 3.3c. Heaviest of the showers have missed though.
  11. Reached -8.7c here, pretty nippy for 14th March! Almost as cold as the coldest temp here this winter, which was -9.2c.
  12. Mix of snow, sleet and soft hail showers this morning, none of them particularly heavy. Temp has risen to 5.3c. TBH would prefer it to rise further as it still feels freezing! Unfortunately for those like me who would like to see some warmer weather (I do after all run a hotel, and Easter is early this year), the ECM shows further cold and possible snow next week. In the meantime this weekend looks like it will be a little bit warmer that it has been, but still pretty cold for march, and potentially wet. Cold rain, sleet and hail, yuck!
  13. Must have been more snow showers here last night as snow depth is now up to about 1cm, perhaps 2cm in places. Min temp of -4.8c, currently -2.4c. Would expect it to melt later as the day warms up, but it's interesting to see lying snow in March.
  14. As with everyone else, snow showers on and off today. Tended to leave a dusting during showers and then melt when the sun came out. Got a max of 1.4c so very cold for March but not exceptionally so (had a day last April with 2.2c max and wet snow all day). Approx 5pm a heavier shower left more reliable dusting and a couple more showers have built this up to a covering of approx 1/2cm, across all surfaces including the main A483 when I popped into town half hour ago. Showers are dying a bit now as the sun has set, may be a few more flakes tonight and over the next 2 days, but should be slightly warmer tomorrow NMM suggesting max temps in the 3-5c range for Wales. Cold night tonight, -3.6c currently and feels it!
  15. Quite a few snow showers this morning here a dusting on most surfaces now, temp drops heavily in showers but rises dramatically when the sun comes out, got up to 0.1c a few minutes ago so no ice day for me. -0.3c currently but has been dropping to about -2c during showers.
  16. Slight, patchy dusting overnight. Less than 50% cover. Feels pretty raw out, -2.1c currently and a cold wind. Brrrr.
  17. Well looks like I was wrong, radar shows precip now moving north into coastal regions of S Wales, and as scoggs reports snow in Barry. I am surprised and expect theprecip to turn around and head south again shortly, but you never know, could be be a dusting between say Cardiff and Swansea, maybe pushing as far north as the valleys.
  18. I agree, the precip is behaving very much as forecast, perhaps a smidgen (20-30miles) further north than NMM 0z showed it, but certainly no major difference. Anybody who expected or is expecting snowfall across Wales from that particular front is deluding themselves IMO. A few flakes in the air here this afternoon but no more than that, hoping to catch the tail end of some showers from the east coast later.
  19. Trouble is the weak front from the north is also further north than forecast, meaning that 1) precip from the northern front has stalled over the midlands rather than progressing into Wales, wouldn't have been a lot anyway, but perhaps our best chance of seeing some snow falling and; 2) cold air hasn't penetrated as far south as quickly as forecast, so even if the southern front does make landfall it will be rain; and 3) the northern front needs to clear before convective precip can start to reach us from the english east coast. So all in all chances of snow today reduced though we should still see some flakes later I hope.
  20. Mostly rain for northern France I would think on the southern side of the low. Lots of snow in the Channel, Isle of Wight for example might get a fair bit (not for this first time this winter/spring). Looks like all areas of Wales will see some light snow flurries over the next couple of days but highly unlikely to see significant accumulations. Think channel low is a red herring, we shoud be more interested in showers from the east coast or instability developing bringing more precip to Wales. even in best case though we're not going to see masses of snow. Interesting weather for March and is going to feel strange after mildish week.
  21. I would've preferred to see this chart in winter: In the nearer term in does look like we could see some snow on Sunday, and cold thereafter.
  22. Looks like another heavy frost tonight (-2.3c here already) but tomorrow should be a warm day, some decent double figures likely, would expect it to be the warmest day of 2013 so far, beating the 11.8c set on 29 January. A lack of high maxima was a feature of February, which had double figures only once and that was 10.0c exactly.
  23. Got down to -7.1c here last night (lowest of winter was -9.2 in both Dec & Feb), max today of just 4.6c is fairly raw, no sunshine today. Still no rain though, day 18 now. As per Tony's forecast the rain is set to return this week though, I'm almost missing it
  24. Hmm not sure it will be coldest night of the winter here (or even close) but -5 or-6 seems possible, after a beautiful day today. Still dry here too 17 days and counting.
  25. Have had a brief appearance from sun yesterday and again today. Hoping to see it some more this year than last. 15 dry days makes this the longest dry period here in the 18 months that I have been recording. Several periods of 15+ consecutive rain days though. Also pressure got above 1036 yesterday for only the 2nd time in the last 6 months.
