it has stalled
It is still moving and growing, albeit slowly.
-
Seems to be some intensification of this band now it is pushing further in to the colder air, interesting.
still dry here in blackburn...is it likely to get this far anyone. It is already beginning to fall here and I'm about 5 miles south of it, so in time yes.
-
-
Main band is right at my door now, only a matter of time.
There's already a few cm from last night on the ground so any extra is going to build up very fast.
-
Here we go, main band entering Manchester.
-
how is it up that way mate? i have a meeting in darwen at 10am? im in liverpoool, alrite to travel i take it?
The main routes have been gritted so should remain clear, I'd avoid the side streets though as quite a lot of fine snow has built up.
-
Anyone think it will make it to north manchester?
It's almost there now.
-
This slowing could be a good thing as it will be here much longer, if it can reach us then stall.. Result!
-
Yeah based on its current speed and track it will probably be over Lancashire within the next couple of hours.
-
Here we go, edge of the main system is starting to nudge in.
-
-
Yes it will, south wales has a lot of low level areas hence the rain.
It will turn increasingly to snow there even at low levels.
-
givingsome accumulations even to low levels by evening, especially across parts of Cheshire. Maximum temperature 0 °C
That sounds like a forecast aimed entirely at low levels.
I'm fairly confident that it's warm air from the low pressure system being forced ahead of the main front by the rather stiff SEly breeze. I think the correct term is instability.Yeah probably, summer storm setup in reverse. Forcing because of the topography of Wales and the Pennines is probably another factor, something which could cause the main band to intensify further though that's wishful thinking most likely.
-
Still snowing here too, this area doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
Something must be feeding warmer air in to the cold air and preventing it from dissipating, though what that is I can only speculate on. Warm air drifting in from the gulf stream, heat rising from towns and cities, a feed from the approaching system or possibly a combination of all 3.
-
Still snowing here with moderate flakes and that main band is now very close, these 2 areas are going to intersect.
-
Calm before the storm.
(If you can call that wind calm by any definition of the word)
-
is your flakes small or big?
Medium with the odd blast of larger ones occasionally.
-
Larger flakes here now and it has begun to stick, roads and roofs already covered so the moisture levels in the air must be increasing.
-
Continental type snow seems to be what we are all seeing then from the sounds of things, icy snow that blows around like sand because there is not enough moisture for it to stick.
-
Moderate snowfall here now, very dry icy snow however which is blowing around everywhere and tending to settle in corners as a result. If wet snow follows and sticks on top of it then it is going to cause some serious travel problems as that is like a rug on a polished floor, it also cuts your eyes to shreds when walking outside as I just found out going to the shops.
-
Nothing falling here yet but it is white with frost, if it has been falling where you are in Cumbria for that long then it can't be far from me now.
-
There's been some lightning here amongst this heavy rain over the last hour though it's not showing on the detector.
-
must admit I'd be somewhat sceptical reading reports of seeing lightning from 100 miles distance, so I've just popped outside, and sure enough saw 3 flashes to NNW in about 5 minutes, and I'm just 10 miles north of Wolverhampton!!...Flashes must be at least 80 miles away...astonishing!
Indeed, lightning seems to be shooting out of the tops of these clouds as its moving closer to me now and the flashes aren't as distinct. Lower level clouds must be scattering the light more.

Just got a text from my brother telling me to go look outside, that stormy area over Blackpool is causing the sky to light up for miles. Very stuffy and humid too, feels like I'm abroad watching a storm out over the sea.

I'm on the very edge of it and the rate of snow is slowly increasing, so it is moving but incredibly slowly.
