Feels a bit like the UK in February these days. Getting snow that is. An exaggeration perhaps but it's definitely rarer these days. Until 2023 of course

Just saw a few flakes drifting down, despite it being quite sunny here. Sun feels quite warm too through the window. Hope we might get a beefy shower here at some point, to perhaps give a temporary dusting at least maybe. That's probably too ambitious though.

I wonder what the character of Jan 1927 was like, which also had the same CET as 1926 and 2022 of 4.6c.
For that matter what was Feb 1926 like? With a much higher value of 6.8c I can't imagine it could have been much more wintry than this February.
It's pretty easy to imagine that another January of 4.6c could be more wintry than this years though. December 2017 after all had a CET of 4.8c but still had snowy spells, around here at least anyway.

Although this Winter has been rubbish from a cold and snow perspective, at least here and for a few others we did have settling snow for a couple of days in late November. It was almost Winter then after all and it's not as though the weather actually knows when we decide when Winter begins and ends does it. I still count November and March snows as belonging to the Winters they precede and succeed respectively. Not to mention there was a brief dusting in early December plus I have seen snow falling in January as well as on Saturday, so that ticks off February for snowfall if not settling snow thus far. It's not been great though by any means but is still not quite as bad as 2013/14 when I think there was just one very brief snowfall that didn't settle all Winter and nothing even in November or March to make up for it.

Felt the rumble here of a 3.2 earthquake at 22:59. Epicentre 2.8km south of Walsall. Made the roof shake a bit. Thought it was a strong gust at first, but heard no wind. Amazingly it was an earthquake. Has been felt as far as Worcestershire apparently.

Did anybody feel the 3.2 earthquake 2.8km south of Walsall at 22:59. I heard a rumbling wave pass through the house. Made the roof shake a little. At first I thought it must be a really strong gust of wind. But it was all quite calm when I looked out after it. Then my friend reported it to me and it seems it was felt as far away as Worcestershire.

Another heavy squally shower here with roaring winds. Rain, hail maybe sleet even. Not so sure about the last one could be just hail.

To be honest though I'm not exactly sure I buy that theory. It could just be a statistical quirk (such things can happen). September after all only begins and ends when we say it does. In the Julian calendar it's 13 days later after all, so if there is an affect going on at that time it could only vaguely correspond to the 1st to 30th September period surely. Why not include the CETs of the last week in August or the first in October or more.
If it is true, then why would March not work the same way concerning the following Summer.
Who knows really but at best we can say there's a correlation.
It's certainly going to make me more nervous about future September CET's. Unless one year the theory is shown to be rubbish of course .

September 2020 also seemed quite warm (or at least there was at least one warm and sunny period within it).
Then again the CET for the month was only 13.9c, so that warm period must have been diluted by cooler temperatures at other times. Nevertheless I do remember a very summery period that month.
In answer to the point about Sep 2015 being so cool, I think NEB is only saying warm September's have an effect. With cool to average September's having mixed results.

1991 would be another one.
Maybe 1984 as well in the north at least which had a colder winter than the south I believe.
Also 1996 had a cold winter (also more so in the north) and a fairly decent summer if memory serves me right.
Maybe you could even count 1995 for that matter as a year with a hot summer followed by a cold Winter that started cold in the following December.
Theres's probably a few more here and there which had hot summers followed by cold winters which may may or may not have got going as soon as December, but still would have been a warm summer/cold winter pairing even if counted as seperate years.

Seems to be a bit of sleet in the showers passing through Walsall I think.

Remember this day 15 years ago. We were having a pretty rubbish Winter then, but on this day it somewhat redeemed itself with those couple of snowy days.
The previous September (2006) was a warm one (16.8c) and it was a mild Winter overall with little to no cold weather beforehand.
Doubt we'll get a Feb 2007 consolation prize this Winter though, but still time I guess.
