  1. I foolishly went out for my lunchtime walk without a coat, and ended up shivering my way around Solihull Park under heavy grey skies. And yet by mid-afternoon there wasn't a cloud in sight and it felt like late April - the Great British weather never seizes to amaze me! Bish
  2. I've only just realised that Tuesday still falls within February........looks like some records could easily be beaten somewhere in the country Bish
  3. It was certainly pretty cold when I was out in Solihull last night. According to the local weather station, the temp eventually dipped to just 0.7 in the early hours of the morning. Bish
  4. Take a bow, Coleshill. Quite an accolade when you think about it Bish
  5. The wind has picked up a bit now, temp is currently approx 17.0, although we managed 18.8 an hour or two ago Bish
  6. It's amazing to think that, when all the snow was falling on Feb 4th, there was a lot of excited chatter on the forum about how the models were suggesting potent northerlies and easterlies for the rest of the month, potentially a sub-zero February etc.............now it feels like early May outside lol Bish
  7. Very interesting. Certainly here we have virtually clear blue skies and almost no wind at all. 18.4 now :o Bish
  8. I know what you mean, but it's what my local weatherstation is showing: http://www.monkspathweather.org.uk Bish
  9. We've shot up to 17.4 now, very impressive for this time of year. What's your temp AJ? Although I'm a coldie, if it's going to be mild it might as well be properly mild rather than the grey dirge we had yesterday. Bish
  10. The temperature has already climbed to 15.9 here in Knowle. It seems to be much sunnier than had been originally forecast. I wonder if we can pass 17.0 in the next couple of hours? Bish
  11. An absolutely fascinating thread. It's funny, I was thinking of asking the same question, but you bat me to it Andy! The temperature differences for March 1965 are extraordinary. Bish
  12. "Expect further downgrades tomorrow" "Winter is over" "It's all gone Pete Tong" "Clearly some balloon data missing" "ECM says NO" "Practically deckchair weather next weekend" "A sorry excuse for a winter" "Ambassador, with these Rocher you're really spoiling us" "My old man's a dustman" Bish
  13. WOW, amazing! We got down to -8.4 last night, which is just about the coldest so far this winter here, but we can't compete with -12.4 Bish
  14. An excellent summary Gord, my sentiments entirely. The cold since the start of the month plus the snow event last weekend (plenty of which is still on the ground here) has effectively "saved" this winter from being consigned to the dustbin, the rest of February/early March notwithstanding. I guess I subconsciously rate a winter depending on whether it delivers at least one reasonable snow event. For example, I tend to regard the winter of 2006/07 as a good one, due to the snow in early Feb 2007, when in reality the winter as a whole was actually a pretty nondescript affair for these parts. Bish
  15. Lot's of low marks then, with most in the west of the region generally going for between 0/10 to 2/10. Predictably, those in the east were far more positive, although that was mostly down to the Northants posters - I think the highest I've seen was an 8/10. What I find really shocking is how comparatively badly the Leicester area did overall. The pics that Andy posted this morning just about summed things up, just a light covering really. And yet, geographically speaking, Leicester and Northampton are not too far apart. Bish
  16. ^^post of the day in my opinion. Last night was a salutary lesson in disregarding whatever the models might be saying, and reverting to radar watching/now-casting/sticking-your-head-out-of-the-window etc.... Bish
  17. So what are your marks out of ten for this event? I'll give it 2/10, one point for the light dusting we eventually received during the early hours, and an extra point for at least avoiding hours of cold rain. Bish
  18. Has anybody noticed how, earlier this evening, the ppn had formed an enormous V-shape over the entire region? Almost like the weather was literally flicking a V sign at us lol Bish
  19. Is there still time for us to pull victory from the jaws of defeat? Anybody??? Bish
  20. Ugh the ppn coming off the North Sea is already starting to disintegrate before it even reaches Yorkshire. My local Met Office forecast states "Overcast with a chance of snow and rain showers, then snow after midnight" - not bloomin likely. Bish
  21. No, don't loose faith aj............trust me, I'm a Bishop, I know all about faith :winky: Bish
  22. Yes the gap in the ppn is starting to fill in, slightly north of Birmingham. Bish
  23. lol, that's not far from where I went to school all those years ago (Arden). I'm at the top of Wychwood Avenue, near to where the golf course is Bish
  24. Time to proclaim Northampton the Snow Capital of the UK? How times have changed! Bish
  25. Same here, just started snowing very lightly. I'm surprised, because the radar seems to have us very firmly in the dry zone. Reports of snow in Birmingham (to our west) are very encouraging Bish
