  1. Ohhhh, this is going to be a big 'un! The skies to the North and West are incredibly black, and the thunder is getting louder and more frequent. Just seen my first flash, starting to rain as well. Bish
  2. The loveliest sound in the world..........distant thunder, incoming from the west. Still very sunny here at the moment however, although dark clouds are gathering on the horizon. Bish
  3. Look's like that is heading in my direction! Warm and sunny here at the moment, but maybe not for much longer...... Bish
  4. lol of course!!!!! A fitting birthday gift for our resident forum god! Lovely night-time T&L here in Solihull, first I can remember for quite a while. Where on earth did this come from? Bish
  5. Amazingly heavy rain here in Solihull, seemingly from nowhere. Also accompanied by some T&L! Bish
  6. Well, this is certainly turning out to be an excellent summer for thunderstorms so far! First we had the apocalyptic El-Brumo event in late June, followed this weekend by two direct-hits, with the one today in particular being a real throwback to the 1980's/1990's style summer storms. More please! Bish
  7. Well that was simply magnificent - a good, old-fashioned summer thunderstorm here in Solihull which lasted at least 45 minutes. Constant loud thunder & lightning, and of course torrential rain. As a great philosopher once said - lovely jubbly! Bish
  8. Much louder & longer rumbling now, but no lightning (yet!). Absolutely bucketing down too, and the whole southern horizon is dark. Bish
  9. Distant rumbling to our SE here in Solihull, but getting closer. Looks like the thundery rain from the SW is slowly making it's way towards us. Bish
  10. Much brighter here again now - time to switch the lights off lol. Bish
  11. Very useful, thanks. Plus of course we have the Netweather radar as well. Does anybody know of the likely track of the main action? The local forecast I saw earlier today had the storms/rain edging slightly northwards during the evening, before moving southwards overnight - not sure if that is still expected. Bish
  12. Yes, stupid RainToday! What a time to breakdown!!!! Bish
  13. Slightly eerie conditions here. Raining modestly now, however it's gone so dark outside I've had to switch the lights on so I can see the keyboard to type! In the mid-distance I can see much clearer skies, but this huge looming black cloud directly above us doesn't seem to be shifting. Bish
  14. An absolutely torrential downpour here in Solihull at the moment. I'm sure I can hear some very distant thunder as well......... Bish
  15. It seems rather quiet on here today? We've got off pretty lightly here in Solihull so far, nothing overnight and only an hour or so of light rain late morning. Strange to think we were in an Amber warning area. Bish
  16. Those showers must be pretty much right on top of you, AJ? Bish

    El Brumo

Great pic. Is El Brumo arriving or departing?
  18. Promising, although it's still quite a few days away yet. If it's still showing on the charts 48hrs beforehand, then I'll start getting interested Incidentally, do we know what our CAPE values ended up being yesterday, when it was all kicking off? Bish
  19. Well, 'El Brumo' was certainly a memorable event here in Solihull! We had two big storms; the first between 10:00 and 10:45 which was gargantuan, a complete & absolute beast which was the biggest I can remember here bar August 1994; and the second a couple of hours later which was smaller but still potent in it's own right. Both dropped extraordinary amounts of water, with the first turning the sky so dark the street lights came on for a time. The only downside is that, despite lots of warm sunshine this afternoon, we seemingly won't see anything more, but to be honest I'm just being greedy lol. Bish
  20. A promising step in the right direction. Presumably this would shift gradually north and east. Bish
