  1. Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate them. I've decided to hang around at home for a couple of hours, then see what the situation is from there. Again thanks, everyone CD
  2. Sorry, BP, I'm off in the opposite direction, it's been blustery and wet for hours, but I do think it's getting worse out there, even in the last 5 minutes. Hope your relief arrives soon and safely.CD
  3. Oh deep joy! Thanks for the info SF-02. I think I might ponder my options! CD
  4. This has probably been asked adozen times at least, but I am about to head out to work, am I going out to an improving situation or a deteriorating one? Any thoughts much appreciated! Thanks CD
  5. Ooh, thanks for that Nanu, I've taken a look, there could be possibilities! CD
  6. So does that mean I have more to come soon? I'm just NE of you across the river!CD
  7. Well, that storm lingered a bit longer than most, I must say! Nice rolling thunder, overlapping each other, frequent lightning in the cloud layer and one really crispy, crackling peal that made the hairs on my arms stand up! Still muggy out there, though! CD
  8. I know Thurrock is an area of social deprivation, perhaps that's the reason storms avoid the place, or at very best, pick up their skirts and dash through as quickly as possible! Three rumbles, two flashes, five minutes of stair-rod rain, that last one is now a mere wisp in the sky, meh! CD
  9. Husband has just reported he heard thunder, he's having a snooze in the bedroom, so I had better check the source of those rumbles! CD Yep, definitely a skyward phenomenon!
  10. Well, we have one last resort, let's all go and water our gardens! CDDer, pays to read a post more carefully than I just have! Oops!CD
  11. 27.6c here, intermittent hazy sunshine, stiflingly humid, although a bit of a breeze has picked up. Just had a helicopter pass over here, so there can't be very much going on up there at the moment! Can't help but be a tad disappointed! Still, this morning's offering was worth watching. CD
  12. Thanks for your post Tom! I used to suffer badly with a fear of thunderstorms as a child after a neighbours house was struck by lightning. I got overit to a large extent when I had kids. I learned to be brave in front of them. Loved the video too!
  13. Got a couple of towers ( hope that's the right terminology!) going up pretty quickly north of me, though a long way off. CD
  14. Took a quick look at your links, Coast, thanks for the info. ) and, Buzzit, yep, I probably have left myself vulnerable, particularly as I did indulge in a bevvie or two during the afternoon! But I know you are a gentle bunch and will go easy on me!
  15. It's a lovely quiet, hot afternoon, here, 28.4 degrees c on a shaded north facing balcony! Can anyone explain something we saw around 8pm last night. The sun was veiled by some cloud, though we could see the disk of the sun through it. Some distance to the left of the sun but at the same height was a bit of a rainbow, a small arc but turned 90 degrees sideways so it looked vertical. Neither hubby nor I have seen anything like it before and were wondering what caused it. Anybody got an explanation, please? CD
  16. Must give Mum a call, she's up by Sir Thomas More's in Leigh on Sea. She's 78, and doesn't find the snow quite so exhilarating nowadays! CD
  17. Just for the record, at 4:45am this morning there was about 1mm of lying snow on roads and paths, where it had drifted, there was 1 cm. But at least Thurrock had gritters out yesterday!!!! Totally outclassed in this fixture, well done Paul! CD Edit "fritters"! Oh er!!
  18. Yay, great stuff, Paul! This is one competition when we can feel happy for the winners! CD
  19. Snow Depth Cup It's been snowing on and off all day, temps haven't risen above freezing, wind chill cutting through like a knife, yet still no ruddy accumulation! Big fat NIL from me tonight, Tom! CD
  20. Nothing quite as cheerless as a grey, cold Monday afternoon, sort of day I'd like to hibernate from! CD
  21. Good morning all!! Not sure if I am a default loser in the snow depth cup for not posting sooner, but it's been a very busy weekend. While snow was falling for hour after hour at a rate of a hand full of flakes an hour, the only accumulation was about 1mm of tiny snow pellets on the wiper blades of the car early Saturday morning, and they were gone by 9 am. I was in Leigh on Sea Saturday afternoon, and there was nothing to note there either. Today, the rain has stopped now, and it's the warmest it has been for several days, a mild 3c, breaking out the summer wear later!! CD
  22. Welcome to the forum AA! I went to Acle market almost 40 yrs ago. Nearly ended up owning a derelict lawnmower waving away a bothersome wasp! A few grains of snow blowing around in the breeze here, earlier. Car temp said 2c. CD
  23. Just spent a wonderful couple of hours with my youngest grandson (1 year old next week). It was warm enough in Basildon to take him for a walk to the local park, muck about on the swings, and wave to passing traffic. It's been a warm, balmy afternoon, and now both the baby and I need a nap!!!! CD
