  1. It's people that ignore warnings and think their bullet proof to the power of mother nature that get caught out by it and end up stranded, injured or killed so don't feel embarrassed about warning them about it, if they decide to venture out this evening it's on their own head be it!
  2. Is this reminding anyone of the October 2000 storm when the winds steadily got worse throughout the day then during the night / early hours period went absolutely NUTS! I sincerely hope the inland gusts don't get as bad as they did that night.
  3. Forecasters already describing Friday's storm as serious, as if this 1 isn't serious enough. Winds seemed to have abated a little bit here in the last half an hour but expecting a more intense spell later on!
  4. This is reminding me alot of the October 2000 storm in the sense that the winds have been steadily building all day and are now gusting around 55mph then I remember in 2000 how I thought that was bad enough then got the shock of my life in the early hours when I woke up to the most horrendous noise as winds around 2am peaked gusting 85-90mph, now I don't expect anything that extreme this far inland tonight at least I hope not but I think we could get something approaching that bad maybe 70mph+
  5. The extreme band is forecast between midnight and 6am and is in a line from central London eastwards up through Kent, Essex etc...
  6. Met Office have already issued a Yellow wind warning for Friday covering effectively the whole of the UK, can't ever remember seeing that!
  7. It's really building up now many inland areas recording 45-55mph gusting 65mph near coasts, the frontal system coming through later this evening has the potential for 70-80mph inland with over 90mph likely on south facing coasts and out in the estuary!
  8. It's ok the worst of this storm will have passed by breakfast time tomorrow, going pub tomorrow evening shouldn't be a problem!
  9. Getting pretty nasty out there now I must say, wind is really roaring down my fire place got to be gusting towards 50mph maybe abit higher and rain is lashing down and going horizontal.
  10. Mean winds steadily increasing currently less gusty then about half an hour ago but I suspect it'll get really wild later this evening!
  11. It's really started gusting hard here in the last 20 minutes or so must be in excess of 50mph. Sounds worse then St Jude already :-(
  12. Things really kicking off here now it sounds worse then St Jude already gusts have got to be pushing 60mph and we are still some way off this peaking yet! :-(
  13. What are things like where you are? Getting quite windy here in Essex now and rain steadily getting heavier!
  14. They won't issue warnings for Friday until the worst of this storm has passed, they need to concentrate warning people considering making journeys in the next 24 hours or so.
  15. Only thing holding my fence up is a bush in next doors garden otherwise it would have been flat on the floor!
  16. Rain getting heavier where you are? Winds slowly building through this afternoon by the looks of it really exploding from about 10pm onwards peaking between midnight and 4am.
  17. Looking in more detail at the Amber wind warning for London & SE it appears anywhere west of the Docklands/Canary Wharf area is in the Yellow category but we are extreme NE greater London and are just within the Amber area, here's hoping that the worst of it stays just to the south and east of us!
  18. Starting to pick up more here now gusting 35-40mph and rain beginning to get heavier!
  19. What worries me is they've now issued Amber warnings for SE with 65-80mph winds predicted for later this evening and overnight and we are about 500 miles from the lows centre unlike people further north especially the NW of Ireland and Scotland, I really fear for you lot up there I can easily see 100mph+ happening in places I'd prepare for Red warnings to be issued in due course by this evening for you lot up there!
  20. Just been on their website and yep Amber wind warnings been put in place from midnight until 6am, it looks like it'll peak between 1 and 3am here gusting easily 60mph potentially 70mph coastal areas on the south coast and perhaps in the Thames estuary could expect 80-90mph.
  21. Certainly looks like it's going to get pretty serious later this evening into the early hours of tomorrow for SE including London but hopefully by then most people will be settling down and going to bed.
  22. "Not as alarming as it sounds" That's easy for him to say snugged up safe and sound in his office lol
