  1. Yes but TV forecasts are far more vital then internet forecasts still because more people take note of them, unless your a weather enthusiast you probably won't spend all the hours of your day looking at online forecasts like we do on here so the only feed of information that your average Jo will read into is what is broadcast through media (TV or radio).
  2. To extent yes but to what extent is still unknown, it looks as if most of us can expect another very windy spell tomorrow night with at least Gale-force gusts if not something more what is more concerning at the moment though is the predicted rainfall totals, god help all those flood victims in the Thames valley!
  3. Indeed I think the Met Office where caught out by it somewhat and where almost left embarrassed, thankfully their warnings where enough hours before the event to get the latest warnings filtering through to the national news bulletins otherwise if they had cut it any finer they could have been facing something similar to a 1987 scenario.
  4. It will upgrade I know how these warnings work, MetO won't stick their neck out until the last possible minute before finalizing their forecasts. Remember how only until about within 24 hours of yesterday's storms they where forecasting winds generally of 60-70mph locally 80mph then it wasn't until yesterday morning within hours of the most extreme winds hitting the west coast that they upgraded their warnings from Amber to Red and the 100mph predictions which of course came true, however this time I suspect it won't get above the Amber warning status but let's not underestimate this storms potential to gather strength before it makes landfall that's all I'm saying.
  5. Met Office have now issued Amber warnings for London & SE England which effectively confirms it, they wouldn't issue Amber warnings if the gusts weren't going to be in the 60mph+ region at least!
  6. Tomorrow's storm is looking like the biggest of the winter so far for our region with potentially 65-70mph gusts even in and around the London area which would probably mean 85-90mph along the south coast is quite possible, I'm certain that MetO will update and upgrade the warnings within the next 12 hours.
  7. What's more concerning is that Friday/Saturday's storm is looking equally as potent but this time South-East England so the most populated corner of the country looks like it could take the brunt!
  8. Urm really?... I think you'll find gusts exceeding 50mph so far inland are actually quite rare, most people that think they've seen a 50mph gust in reality are probably only experiencing 40mph max!
  9. Sky gone very dark here after about an hour of sunshine and a few drops of rain starting to fall on my window I hope this isn't a squall developing!
  10. Hi I see your an Upminster man lol, me too :-) I work for the Havering council now on the barrow but I'm off today as I had to use up some annual leave left over from last year I'm glad I did now cause wouldn't have fancied working in that rain & wind earlier, the amount of times my barrow has almost been blown over into the road already since I started my job. I can't begin to imagine how scary 1987 was
  11. Worst storm I've experienced here was in October 2000 when we had gusts upwards of 75mph peaking at nearly 90mph.
  12. Sun is out here now too and winds seem to be easing off a tad, however the Met Office have now issued an early Yellow wind warning for Friday night into Saturday emphasising that South East England is expected to feel the full force of the next storm coming in early prediction indicate widespread inland gusts of 60-70mph so stronger then todays 50mph and over 80mph on exposed south facing coasts!
  13. Hi good to have someone on here nearby who I can relate too, yes your right the winds started getting very gusty here in the last 20 mins or so I wonder if we'll get that squall line that Surrey was referring to?..
  14. My Met Office phone app is going for gusts of over 120mph at the summit of Snowdon
  15. Abit gusty have you been asleep? It was roaring here about an hour ago, 50mph or more probably more persistent and notable then St Jude was to be honest!
  16. The 3mph must been in the calm centre (core) or the EYE of the storm if you will...
  17. PLEASE tell me your exaggerating or taking the jaffa cakes? Trees snapping in half seriously?... this isn't Florida.
  18. Definitely the strongest storm this winter here and I'm in relatively quiet Essex but still winds gusting well in excess of 50-60mph I'd say the rain is being driven sideways like you see in those hurricane movies lol Quite scary at times still I'm so grateful that I'm not in that RED zone where the 100mph winds are predicted.
  19. Has the wind ramped up a notch during that? sounds like you might be experiencing an intense squall line perhaps even a sting jet.
  20. Well I can't vouch for other people's experiences as we speak but things are pretty atrocious here the wind is really starting to squall and howl got to be gusting 50mph+ I'd say and the rain is lashing down and being blown horizontally, still we should all consider ourselves lucky that we live in the sheltered corner of England because I certainly wouldn't want to be in the RED warning zone Wales and NW England right now where their experiencing 90-100mph winds!
