  1. Yes but don't forget that the Met Office didn't forecast the 100mph winds and issue the RED warnings until yesterday morning so the warnings for tomorrow night may well be upgraded significantly throughout tomorrow daytime if the forecasters think it necessary.
  2. I can't believe that on this Sky 1 Storm Nation programme is still bothering to compare St Jude with 1987, it's becoming embarrassing because they overhyped it and they know it but they don't want to back down on the hype they created because it'll make them look bad but to be honest the fact that their continuing to harp on about it is only making them look even more stupid, with had several storms since St Jude across Britain that have been worse then what St Jude was and longer lasting yesterdays being a classic example!
  3. AWD is that app only for iPhones / pads or can you get it on Android systems aswell?
  4. That 6am graph looks particularly ferocious, with gusts approaching 70mph around the London region.
  5. People have short memories that's all I can say, I was only just turned 14 (it was the night after my birthday) and I can remember it like yesterday almost it was so terrifying. Woke up about 2am and my double glazed bedroom windows where rumbling like they where about to come through the rain was lashing against it also and the noise from the wind was nearly a deafening roar, I can visibly remember the 40'ft tall tree swaying right over in 1 direction and snapping back up in the other it was without a doubt the most terrifying storm I've experienced and made St Jude look like a late summer breeze. It's the only time I woke up and thought have I landed in a Florida hurricane!
  6. You had 75mph wow that's bad certainly the biggest in about 10 years or so if that hit here but highest gusts we got weren't even 60mph, in the October 02 storm we had frequent 70-80mph gusts in October 2000 we had 85-90mph gusts and in 1987 gusts of 90-100mph higher on coasts! Regarding tomorrow nights storm the local BBC London TV forecast just now stated 50-60mph north of London with 70mph possible south of Greater London so there's no doubt its going to be rough but probably not a lot worse then it was yesterday afternoon here as I'm slightly north-east of London, unless the Thames estuary acts as a wind funnel.
  7. Probably expanding the Amber warnings to cover a larger area of the South East corner!
  8. That certainly wasn't my experience of it, a half an hour spell of 60mph gusts a few trees and fences down that's all we got here from St Jude definitely not the biggest since 87 infact nowhere near it the Burn's Day Storm and October storms in 2000 and 02 where much much worse!
  9. Oh gosh that looks bad, where did you get that from and how accurate a source of information is it? Looks like we are in the area for 65mph+ Severe Gales
  10. ...however I do think this could be more powerful and certainly more prolonged then what St Jude was!
  11. Looks like from about midnight to 6am most likely around 3am being the absolute peak. I can categorically promise you it won't be as bad as 1987, I say that whilst holding my breath lol. If the winds get as strong as they did in North Wales yesterday then it'll be comparable but (SO FAR) the forecasts aren't going for it be quite that extreme more like 70mph so bad yes but not 100mph, however there's still time for the warnings to be upgraded if the system intensifies anymore between now and making landfall, just like for yesterdays storm the Red warnings where only issued a few hours before the hurricane-force winds hit!
  12. Where does it? All that tells me is how they are defining the approaching storm not what the levels of definition are in relation to wind speed, after all gusts of 60mph inland are a far more serious situation for usually sheltered inland areas compared to if they where to materialize on the coast where people are more used to dealing with it.
  13. I agree surely predictions of 60-70mph gusts for inland areas surrounding London warrant an Amber warning being so densely populated therefore the % of a risk to life increases because of all the traffic and people about etc... I'm quite sure they'll expand the Amber warning zone before breakfast time tomorrow, if they don't its on their own head be it!
  14. LOL, why do I feel a little Beatles song coming on, ready folks?.... "We all live in a Yellow Submarine, Yellow Submarine, Yellow Submarine!!!!" I know how you feel, I thought I had gotten away with it also but now I have a seriously bad case of man flu lol
  15. Yes I saw that, even London and the surrounding suburbs could feel those sort of gusts in the small hours of Saturday morning #NotPretty
  16. Yep doesn't look good does it? The home counties and London area could take a real battering.
  17. BBC London forecast at lunchtime stated heavy rain warnings from midday tomorrow right through until midday Saturday with wind warnings in place for the overnight into Saturday morning period with inland gusts of 60-70mph so more then likely to see something of 80mph+ on the channel coast as the Amber warnings indicate, Peter Gibbs in the national forecast also said inland areas over SE could have a spell of 70mph gusts overnight.
  18. Peter Gibbs BBC lunchtime forecast going for 70mph inland gusts over SE England with potentially more up channel coasts it's looking more and more nasty with every forecast and the models appear to be upgrading with every run not sticking or downgrading!
  19. There's no mention of whether he meant rain or wind he just purely says "more intense" I guess we'll have to wait and see, either way it's not looking pretty!
  20. Link to BBC article; John Hammond quotes that tomorrow's storm has the potential to be just as severe if not more severe then yesterday's. Here's a link to the BBC News article on the clear up from yesterday's storm before tomorrow's arrives, John Hammond hints that tomorrow night into Saturday could be equally as bad if not more intense then yesterdays storm! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26176582 < I previously posted this in the Severe winter storms thread.

  22. Definitely a case of the calm before the storm here at the moment, glorious sunshine and nothing more then a gentle breeze!
  23. The NetWeather daily forecast from my location has the winds peaking between 3 and 6am Saturday morning with mean wind of 38mph gusting to 61mph If that's anything to go by then sounds pretty serious and certainly the strongest storm this far inland this winter so far, with an average speed of 38mph I could easily foresee gusts in the region of 70mph and that's here in Upminster so I dread to think what the south coast would be in store for that's providing of course that models prediction are even remotely accurate!
