London & South East Regional Discussion 17th January 2013, 12z onwards

Neil, weren't you the one asking for a prediction map that ISNT xcweather yesterday because it kept insisting the winds would get some east in them, and bring the blobs over, and they never did? -

Wasnt far off that here today... But, when I urge caution, I get accused of being "inflammatory", "mild lover" , "BS" and so on. Just need to keep it real, people. Tempering some expectation with even a tiny dose of reality leads to less disappointment in the end. I've heard it all before: "we will be in the freezer for 2 weeks" = "we might be in the fridge for a couple days, then situation normal again". BTW, as anyone thats been in here this week will know, I am not a mild ramper. My middle name is not cocksoft! But then again if you are in here just today, you may not know this! We had a mild sector ruin the last frontal episode. Thats not to say it will definitely happen again, but is something that should always be considered. That was disappointing! Then, despite METO saying a week of ENE/NE/E winds and North Sea convection, only a couple of coastal places (Sandwich, Deal, etc)saw anything from that. There just wasn't enough E element to the wind. Is it just me that remembers we were forecast several cm of convection snow this week? But I am a realist -- so here's looking forward to how things pan out tomorrow. Stay safe, people! My doggie loves the snow, and I'd like nothing more to see him mucking about in it (he hasnt seen it since last year when he was a couple months old! -

Im not gonna argue the point, we shall just wait and see. Now if you have something to contribute as to why I might be wrong, I'd love to hear it. -

Not rubbish! It was a chart posted by one of the mods on this thread. And temps here today were easily 4 degrees! Dont say I didnt tell you so. I dont appreciate Peter Cockwash either, but I'd hate to see him proved right, Neil. -

I think those in the south (Kent, E.Sussex) shouldnt be so excited. I dont want to spoil your fun, but surface temps tomorrow are predicted to be up to 4 degrees. With how mild it got today, I feel there is warm sector at play (again!) So snow might be melting as fast as it falls for many tomorrow -- just a word of caution to the wise I thought we were guaranteed sub zeros and definite snow, though? Not from the charts Ive been lookin at (on this thread and on the models thread) Its always worrying when people start on about "this ones for the bin" etc. It means it doesnt forecast what they want, thats all! -

All the while DP is zero or above its ok, but instead of seein -0.1, it goes to -176.3 !!!! Software update perhaps? I think its always done it... -

Agree. Its a 3am job. Source xcweather -- wind forecast charts On the plus side its already abt 0 deg temp and 0 deg DP, so by then we do have a chance of something unlike earlier this week - that yukky horrible cold slushy mess that is typically on its way out by breakfast time, and gone completely by elevenses! -
