Given what xcweather.co.uk are showing for gusts at around midday onwards (first for southern Wales and then England in the afternoon (60 to 70mph)) I'm surprised that there are no amber warnings (note that xcweather get their data from the GFS). I guess the met office are still uncertain about the track - if it goes much further south then only the southernmost counties of England and the channel will be affected.

Model Output Discussion - mid Autumn
Buzz replied to Kirkcaldy Weather's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Yup, at the moment it does seem to be trending south - good for the UK but of course very bad for France. I just hope that it's not nearly as strong as currently forecast so that nobody has to suffer from potentially highly damaging winds. I know that some love extreme weather but as people grow up and mature most of us come to realise that what is often classed as 'exciting' weather is usually damaging to both life and property, plus a lot of harm is caused by the inevitable power cuts. Only those who are aware of the damaging potential yet who are also selfish and/or mean-spirited could possibly even entertain the idea of enjoying something which would harm others, whether that is weather-related or otherwise. -
Storms and Convective discussion- October 2023
Buzz replied to Supacell's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
I despise the mainstream media, particularly the tabloids. They should be held to account for all of the damage that they cause to society, but then of course they start whining about 'freedom of speech!'. I'm all for freedom of speech, but not freedom to intentionally and irresponsibly stoke up fear based on worst case scenarios, along with the usual lies and severe distortions of the truth. -

A bit off topic but I can't decide the best place to post the following: What' is now the best place for good satellite imagery showing cloud cover? (not rain, just cloud). I used to use meteoradar.co.uk and sat24.com but they've very recently made some changes and both sites now show inferior quality imagery. Even the met office's cloud imagery is terrible. So what are the alternatives? Thanks
