  1. Given what xcweather.co.uk are showing for gusts at around midday onwards (first for southern Wales and then England in the afternoon (60 to 70mph)) I'm surprised that there are no amber warnings (note that xcweather get their data from the GFS). I guess the met office are still uncertain about the track - if it goes much further south then only the southernmost counties of England and the channel will be affected.
  2. Well, SSD's do tend to be more reliable than hard drives after all ........... no moving parts you see.
  3. I think that you need to step outside and let the wind blow off your tin foil hat ...........
  4. Yup, at the moment it does seem to be trending south - good for the UK but of course very bad for France. I just hope that it's not nearly as strong as currently forecast so that nobody has to suffer from potentially highly damaging winds. I know that some love extreme weather but as people grow up and mature most of us come to realise that what is often classed as 'exciting' weather is usually damaging to both life and property, plus a lot of harm is caused by the inevitable power cuts. Only those who are aware of the damaging potential yet who are also selfish and/or mean-spirited could possibly even entertain the idea of enjoying something which would harm others, whether that is weather-related or otherwise.
  5. I despise the mainstream media, particularly the tabloids. They should be held to account for all of the damage that they cause to society, but then of course they start whining about 'freedom of speech!'. I'm all for freedom of speech, but not freedom to intentionally and irresponsibly stoke up fear based on worst case scenarios, along with the usual lies and severe distortions of the truth.
  6. But then we'll all be wanting some rain .........
  7. I'm thinking of building an Ark .........
  8. I am now officially tired of sodding rain.
  9. Thanks a lot, those links are extremely helpful.
  10. A bit off topic but I can't decide the best place to post the following: What' is now the best place for good satellite imagery showing cloud cover? (not rain, just cloud). I used to use meteoradar.co.uk and sat24.com but they've very recently made some changes and both sites now show inferior quality imagery. Even the met office's cloud imagery is terrible. So what are the alternatives? Thanks
  11. The milder the better as far as I'm concerned due to the high energy costs.
  12. For the benefit of those of us who don't have access to your crystal ball and/or your apparently superior meteorological knowledge, can you explain why please. Thanks.
  13. It's not mid September, it's the first third, therefore still early September.
  14. You and a few other posters seriously need to stop looking at possible negatives all of the time. Do your best to enjoy what you have instead of looking for the breakdowns in any nice weather, particularly if said breakdowns are over a week away. Discussion of the model output is of course what this thread is for, but you need to learn to look at ALL of the model output and not concentrate on one run from one model to prove whatever point you are trying to make at the time. You also need to realise that the further out the model run goes, the less accurate it will be - you'll save your sanity if you only look at general trends across all of the models when looking further ahead.
  15. It just boggles the mind doesn't it? Still, it just means that my ignore lists continues to grow ever larger.
  16. I've been seeing loads of bees, both honey and bumble (some wasps too) - I have a relatively wild garden with a good variety of plants (weeds plus some planted flowers and vegetables) and I don't use pesticides. While warm and sunny weather brings them out even more I still see plenty even on cloudy and cool-ish days.
  17. Often the case because here in the UK we primarily endure Atlantic-driven weather, therefore it's easier to predict when that's on the cards. A Red Run?
  18. Let's hope not for the sake of our health, our sanity, the farming industry and of course the wildlife
  19. I wonder when some posters will stop looking at the assorted model outputs of 5, 6, 7 plus days away and thing "yup, that's exactly what's going to happen", whether it's showing something they really want or something that they definitely don't want. This kind of 'analysis' (hah!) has been going on here for very many years and seemingly some posters lack the capacity to learn, instead they put their own personal needs and emotions before any kind of analysis or logical thinking. Not only that but they teach newer, far less experienced members bad habits. Forum threads descend into chaos and bickering because of this. Not saying that you shouldn't look at the more unreliable model outputs, but bear in mind that they are just that - unreliable. Use them together as general guidance of possible emerging patterns, but no more than that.
  20. One run from one model does not tell the whole story, as you should know by now. The 0z run showed a very different picture and the next run will likely show something else entirely. I often think that some people just post images like this to wind up everyone else, particularly when the run is for a week away or more.
