  1. It would be incredibly boring if it was the same day after day after day ........ it's the variability that makes it so interesting and, dare I say it, fun.
  2. A wise choice to hide those who Disagree, because otherwise that would cause some flack here (and there's enough of that already due to the highly immature nature of some posters). I do though agree with danm about making those who Agree visible.
  3. Yeah, this time last year was terrible, the current temps are far more preferable.
  4. This is of course where we dive into personal preferences, of which there are many. For me 21C is an optimum outdoors temperature, 25C is too warm and 30C and above is varying levels of hell on Earth.
  5. Bearing in mind that I prefer sunny, pleasantly warm days, I'd still rather have endless days of wet murk instead of the terrible conditions that southern Europe are currently having to endure.
  6. The past couple of days I've enjoyed 21C and a lot of sun (only a few light and very brief showers). The only annoyance has been a strong-ish wind.
  7. A question for all of the heat lovers here - would you like the UK to endure, for weeks on end, the same temps (upper 30's and into the 40's Celcius) which parts of southern Europe are currently experiencing?
  8. 25C is too warm for me. My preferred temp is about 21C, simultaneously with low humidity with a very light southerly breeze and clear blue skies.
  9. As the old saying goes: "Don't let the b*stards grind you down". Remember that, as in most walks of society, it's usually the case that a a few rotten apples spoil the barrel - in other words the majority of posters here value not only your input but that of the other experts and professionals who post in the model output thread. I sincerely hope that you and the other experts continue to post here and that the mods identify and discard the rotten apples.
  10. Just ignore the rude and childish fools, there's unfortunately far too many of them on this forum. They also tend to infest the model output thread with their trolling and whining when the weather isn't THEIR kind of 'perfect'. I too am not a fan of the heat, 21 or 22C is pretty much perfect for me, but I respect the fact that some love it; in other words I don't go out of my way to constantly insult them for having different likes and dislikes to me. Getting back to the rude folks, if you experience any being rude, trolling or even aggressive towards yourself or others it's best to use the Report function. The mods will often act on the back of that. Don't let the childish posters put you off posting here.
  11. You need to broaden your horizons somewhat - wildlife (flora and fauna) needs rain as do farmer's crops, plus the grass for the cows, sheep, etc to feed on.
  12. I know, it's ridiculous. And I don't say this based on my own location either, from looking at charts and daily reports many places have had a real mix of weather and it's been very far from the disaster that some make it out to be. Warmth, sunshine, some light showers, some storms but also plenty of dry weather have been enjoyed (or not) by most of the country. No, it's not the wall to wall sunshine that we have been spoiled with up until recently but so what? I could appreciate people moaning if it was weeks on end of heavy rain, very cool temps and gales, but it's very far from that. Those who want guaranteed blue skies and very warm or hot temps need to move elsewhere, the same applies to those who fixate on cold and snow. Or perhaps just accept what we have? Now there's an idea ..... Some posters also tend to take way too much notice of what the model output states and base their mood on that alone, even if it's a forecast for more than a week ahead.
  13. Yup, that pretty much sums up my thoughts too - what we have right now is what I'd call a typical British Summer. June spoiled many of us but now we pay the price. I must say that I'm not a heat seeker, I just like it sunny with a very gentle breeze and what I call 'pleasantly warm', so for me that's 21 or 22C. I know that some love it in the upper 20's and higher but we can't of course pick and choose.
  14. This confused me at first until I noticed your location, for some reason Scottish schools break up around now while in England and Wales they break up around the 21st of July.
  15. Something that I wanted to mention based on a few comments I've read here and elsewhere regarding the lack of rainfall lately. All have been along the lines of "we shouldn't need rain every week just to meet our water requirements", fingers are then pointed at local water authorities, water waste, lack of infrastructure for storage, etc. All good points in their own way. However, one thing that I rarely see mentioned are the water requirements for flora and fauna - no amount of water infrastructure improvements are going to help in that regard and it's blinkered, selfish thinking to only have a thought for the water requirements of us human beings. A few weeks without regular rainfall isn't going to do much harm but after a month or so it starts to have an effect. Just something to ponder over next time you hear people say that "we need rain" ........... it's not only for us and our vegetable patches, it's also needed for the wildlife and also of course lessens the chances of wildfires. Our 'green and pleasant land' wouldn't be particularly green and pleasant without it.
  16. This thread appears to be littered with manic depressives who are cherry-picking the very worst looking FI model output and declaring that "Summer is over!". Not sure if you're doing it to troll or if you just can't accept the fact that, yes, summer isn't always wall to wall sunshine and warm temperatures. You live in the UK, it's not all sunshine and roses - be grateful for the weather that we've recently had instead of griping that it's going away for a while.
  17. Very much so, but any improvement is welcome at this stage. However, as I said, one model, one run .........
  18. But it dribbles away pretty fast ........ On the whole the 06 run is a vast improvement on previous runs. However, it's merely one run from one model so only to be used as a possible guideline at best.
  19. I seriously hope that the forecast heat doesn't materialize in ten days time - this is one FI that I definitely do NOT want to happen. It looks absolutely horrendous.
  20. Only six months until Christmas .......... now THAT is depressing!
  21. Despite the forecasts of rain, etc after midnight from the BBC and Met Office sites, from looking at the satellite imagery and trajectory of the clouds I currently see nothing of value. Certainly no storms, maybe the occasional drop of light and patchy rain at best? But things can develop quickly so I'm not ruling it out completely.
  22. And then there's foreign investors .......... for example, China Investment Corporation (a sovereign wealth fund that manages part of the People's Republic of China's foreign exchange reserves) owns 9% of Thames Water. And that's not all when it comes to China dabbling in UK industries.
  23. Late Spring is my favourite, May in particular - everything is a vibrant green, it's the start of new life. I dislike Autumn, the browning and falling leaves signal death, cold and gloom. Winter I can put up with because next up is Spring, I like Summer too of course but late Spring is the best.
  24. Yeah, good luck with that, it's a rarity. Then of course you'll get some saying it's too warm, or that it's not warm enough, or that it's been dry for too long and we need some rain ...... in short, it's impossible to please all of the people all of the time.
  25. As somebody who lives in the west this current spell of weather has been excellent - perfect temps, loads of sunshine. This makes a tremendous change from the weather that we usually get in the west and south west, that of wind, rain, grey skies, etc. Be grateful that you usually get the best of it in the east/south east and us in the west/south west usually get the worst during the majority of the year!
