  1. Is there any way that we can encourage the more experienced and unbiased posters to post here more often? There is such a lot of uninformed emotive cobblers posted in the main model thread that it's almost painful to read. There are of course good posters there (mainly those who also post here from time to time), but they are easily drowned out by the rest. Just a thought - hope it's okay to post this here in an attempt to enourage it to be used more by the real experts. To be honest I don't care what the weather does, I just like to read analytical technical commentary on what the models are showing without the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth that appears when the GFS shows, once again, that it won't be really cold from quite some time .........
  2. In addition to that, would it be possible to ask posters not to quote messages that contain a number of images - that also introduces unnecessary clutter.
  3. Given that the track of the depression won't be nailed on for some time yet, how can you expect anyone to specify where there will be snow? Forecasting snow is not a precise art with this kind of setup, so patience is required. Meanwhile, this is the model discussion thread, not the "where exactly will it snow" thread.
  4. If you're just looking at the reliable, short-term GFS charts, yes ............
  5. So what? What is the 'REAL' situation then? I'm sure we'd all love to hear your in-depth analysis and forecast for the coming weeks.. It's FI - it may happen, it may not. If some people like looking at it then let them you miserable old Grinch.
  6. If the temperature is low enough then the snow will still stick if the surface is wet.
  7. And more bilge-water from the Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2065787/Britain-course-warmest-November-record-cold-snap-refuses-start.html
  8. More utter bobbins from the Daily Fail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2062230/Holly-trees-berries-70-years-set-usher-freezing-winter.html
  9. And egg on the faces of the trashy press, not that they care.
  10. I'm assuming that you are implying that anyone criticising PC is some kind of a bully? Why is that then? If the guy showed some humility and admitted whenever he was wrong (as opposed to his usual stance of "I'm always right") then he would get far more respect.
  11. Having just watched the programme I was assuming that they had got it wrong - and they had. What a surprise - and the local weather guru didn't mention this? (or was it edited out)? Overall, it was a moderately entertaining little programme (albeit accompanied by some annoying background noise (..... sorry, I mean music)). But that's all it was - entertainment. Actual scientific analysis and accurate data was fairly low. Why is this subject rarely (if ever) treated properly?
  12. He stands about as much chance of getting it right as I do from flipping a coin. Heads for mild, tails for very cold .............................
  13. I have it on good authority that their readership mostly consists of zombies.
  14. They would also need to print it on the front page, in the same screaming headlines style, for example: Express Gets the Weather Wrong! It'll never happen of course, the press are a law unto themselves.
  15. I was living in the south west of England in 1978, and well remember the February blizzard. I'd never seen snow like it, and it was a wonderful first-time experience of about 1 foot of snow and huge drifts. A pity that it melted a few days later, but it was very memorable.
  16. I'd have a lot more respect for PC if: i) He didn't 'go off on one' at the drop of a hat, ie if he acted in a more mature and professional manner ii) He ditched the sensationalist hyperbolé iii) He revealed his 'methods' iv) He admitted when he was wrong v) He produced an accurate, regularly updated monthly analysis of what he predicted and what actually happened Until all the above points are met, I will treat all of his forecasts with extreme prejudice.
  17. It gets my goat too. The media's willingness to not only irresponsibly worry people but also to blatantly change the meaning of what someone said should be outlawed. This of course applies to all media reporting, not just the weather. They should be held responsible for any problems caused by their actions, simple as that.
  18. Jackone - is there a way to save that image? Would love it as my desktop wallpaper yet there's no option to save via a right click?
  19. Ever since I changed the batteries in my (rather basic) wireless weather station a few hours ago, the temperature appears to be reading about 1 celcius above what it should be. Can these devices be recalibrated? It's an 'Oregon Scientific 433 mhz Cable Free Pro' Thanks
