  1. I love this weather although i love any weather. Bit of wet stuff on the horizon next week but not sure how much will turn up in these parts of the country.
  2. Boring? Above average temps, one of our best starts to summer with plenty of storms in recent years and ur moaning? I hope u dobt pay for summer holidays in the sun. Or was it sarcasm?
  3. Sun all morning here. Cloud starting to bubble up but really warm....hot in the sun.
  4. Overcast but dry and you can feel the sun through the clouds so nice walking weather. Also very still (in Central London). It's quite nice having the odd day different to the last week or so and makes you appreciate the nicer days more.
  5. I live 300 yards from the bridge at Wallington and yet seeing the Zafira literally drive into the 5 or 6 foot of water (on facebook) amazes me at the mentality of some people. He had a close call, but luckily he managed to get out, somehow. He even admitted it was the closest he came to death. I was at work in London and missed it all but my father who lives down the road said the storm was immense!!!
  6. Snowing in Wallington. Wet surfaces so not sticking but heavy snow after initial sleet.
  7. Dubmuffin, I live around the corner, well a very short drive away and have been there a few times in the last week or so as I was amazed at it, I always use to walk past thinking 'one day I would love to see that full'. I stood there with others taking photos, looking like right tourists. I had a quick walk down to the grotto end and it looked like the water was just rising up from the ground. An amazing sight, even the Hog Pit is full, and I think that is where the annual bonfire is held.... Only in Oct/Nov was I with our son collecting conkers running around both areas, not a drop of water in sight! AW
  8. Woke up to a nice covering here. Went to bed at midnight and it was raining. It was quite heavy earlier but now is less intense therefore some of the lighter coverings are fading. AW
  9. was just at epsom downs and it was heavy snow. back in carshalton its just about sleet. i love going there in marginal situations.
  10. Massive bolt of lightening!!!!! Rumble of Thunder & haevy rain here.
  11. I'm just going to enjoy the warmer temps in London next week and anyone wishing for more rain be it thundery or not in my mind is just bizarre lol, Does that include the bosses at thames Water and all other water companies wanting more rain? We are in drought don't you know..... I had my moan about this in the drought section in April I think and I (blowing my own trumpet) called a wet year, maybe I should work for the water board and i could have saved them milions in advertising this pathetic drought order. Anyway bring on the storms and rain - I got £30 at 8/1 in this being the wettest year on record, some way to go though.
  12. Bewl has increased since last week by about 10% and we look like getting more prolonged rainfall. It now stands at 51% as at 19/04/2012. I know its below average but by the end of April my guessing is that it will be between 70% - 75%. AW
  13. You obviously don't know much about the water table! As noted above, we have had below normal rainfall for 18 months - one wet month, however wet it is, won't make much of a difference. If you expect to earn £100 a month but for 18 months you only earn £60. Then, the next month you earn £120 ....... have you recouped your loss? Or are you still in deficit? I am not disagreeing with the water tabel level at all, and i am not that stupid, although some may disagree. I know about this, don't you think I hear enough of it in the news? Suddenly its big news, but I am guessing that this did not happen overnight. 1 months rain is not going to sort it - agreed, but they hand a hosepipe ban when we are currently in a cycle of a lot of rainfall What I am saying is, we had a long dry period overall, yes, but we are now having a lot of rainfall, which will no doubt take the water table to above the levels we had in March and the start of April. Don't orget reservoirs are also important factors and currently they are filling up quite quickly, and would not be surprised if they are above average for this time of year shortly. This is obviously my opinion, and the experts obviously get paid shed loads of money to make these decisions, so what do I know. We get rain all year round, and I know water does gets used more in summer esp with extra warmth and the vegetation growing, but it does not take much for above average rainfall in this country, and all along i have been saying it will be quite a wet period we are going to see, which will bring us back close to average or the time of year and the ban was unnecessary. AW
  14. Nice amounts of rainfall being seen around the country, reservoirs filling, river levels increasing, this drought was never going to last long. I still can't believe they called a hosepipe ban. Too early for me. How much has it cost them with all the advertising? They had an idea we were in for a spell of wet weather, might it have been wise for them to hold off for a wee bit? Maybe, but they must stick to the rules and if rules are broken, oh dear, someone will get a smacked bottom. lets forget about common sense, which sometimes this country does not know the meaning of. Since the hosepipe ban came into effect on the 5th April, England & Wales have had nearly all their average april rainfall in those 2 weeks. With plenty more coming....... AW (totally against a hosepipe ban being called here, never should have been in my eyes)
  15. We have a water meter. This is the best way to save water and stop people wasting water. Just like gas and electricity. People would be less wasteful. In the LB of Sutton, if you purchase a house, you are made to have a water meter. This has been going on for a few years now. Why don't they just make it compulsory for every household, and go road by road, it may take a while but it will be more beneficial to the environment.....oh I know, because it costs the water companies money to install them........ AW
  16. "I think this belief goes back to well it's rained in my area a couple of days so it can't be a drought" My thoughts are not based on this at all. I look at the overall picture. Ground is still hard here but although we have had some rain areas around me seem to have had more rain. We have had no rain for a while, but as long as there is rain in the air, we have nothing to worry about. More than average rainfall will obviously replenish the reservoirs. Droughts 'conditions' in this country are so weak. My thoughts are based on facts that rain comes and goes in cycles. River beds will run dry, but will not last long. Just as much as reservoirs will be full certain times. We will never be in a position of extreme drought conditions, where reservoirs are less than 10% full, and other countries seem to cope much better than us as we tend to overdo everything. I will put my mortgage on the fact that this will be over sooner than most people think I that hosepipe bans were unnecessary, but the people at the top must be seen to be doing something, god forbid if they don't. AW
  17. Yes I agree with the extremely dry spell, but these things do not last and although some small rivers have dried up, and it is rare for this time of year, rainfall in this country is just around the corner. I bet those rivers that have dried up will be flowing by the end of april, and reservoirs will be replenished to near normal levels. It is hard to say with reservoir levels as they get topped up from local rivers (which must be at ok levels) but currently Bewl is 49% full, Darwell at 47% full, Powdermill at 99% full - but this is ket full to service Darwell, and Weir Wood is 57% full. Although these are low for this time of year, it does not seem drastically low. We go through dry spells as much as wet spells nd these things will even out. Ok we may be flirting more with the drier spells in this last few years... I can't say it will be exceptionally wet but this country is in a geographical (if thats the right word) position to receive rainfall consistently throughout the year. As it stands E&W have had approx 50% more rainfall so far in April to the 11th, with the drries areas - SE approx average but central England approx 100% more than average. My point is and its just my opinion, that this 'drought' has been overhyped, yes we had a very dry spell but we are not at critical levels and we never will be. I don't believe the hosepipe ban was necessary. April and May are normally wet months and plenty of time for these rivers and reservoirs to be topped up. Time will tell.......... AW
  18. Don't worry Picog, rain is on the way, don't let the hose pipe ban/media make you think we are in a disaster. Yes we had a dry spell, but overcooked by all the hype. Weather is great, and averages are there for a reason. Does not mean we will dry up. Groundwater will soon be replenished, Rservoirs will soon fill up, then we will be moaning about how wet it is. All very laughable, but looking forward to some nice heavy rainfall soon. Just as I type, another bang of thunder today....and rainfall falling. AW
  19. This drought will soon come to an end. Swings and roundabouts. AW
